Abstract

This study investigates the obstacles that teachers faced using Google Classroom as a platform for Distance Learning (PJJ) during the COVID-19 pandemic at the elementary school level. This study also examines how elementary school teachers overcome the obstacles they experience while conducting distance learning through Google Classroom. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. In-depth semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 8 teacher respondents who actively use Google Classroom in teaching activities in Pontianak. The findings indicate that the obstacles faced by teachers during learning activities are limited facilities and infrastructure, lack of technical support, difficulties in controlling students, and lack of human resources. Teachers have made maximum efforts to overcome these obstacles by utilizing available facilities and infrastructure and affordable technical support and organizing independent training activities and peer-to-peer tutorial activities related to distance learning, such as controlling student learning and improving human resources quality.

Abstract

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia since the early March 2020 has change most sectors of human’s life together with  educational activities. Many schools tried to adapt to conduct instructional activities from the distance and students’ learning activities were implemented from home via online. Teachers and students were expected to be able to use online learning flatforms and media to support their activites for the sake of avoiding the spread of the virus. This study aims to investigate the teachers’ motives for using Google Classroom as a media for distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Elementary School Level. This research applied a qualitative descriptive study and   semi-structured interviews was utilized to collect data from eight respondents of three elementary schools who are actively using Google Classroom in teaching and learning activities in Pontianak City. The findings indicate that  there are 5 motives for using Google Classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic at elementary schools in Pontianak City which cover  ease of  access and use,  application shopistiation, availability of  facilities and infrastructure, school policy, and  level of teacher and students' digital literacy skills.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate students’ motives and constraints in employing mobile communication device as a media for English language learning. Semi-structure interviews were applied to collect the data. The findings indicate that the students have a positive perception toward the use of mobile communication device for English language learning as it can facilitate them to develop their English language skills. The students also find that learning English with mobile communication device is flexible and fun. Mobile communication device can ease them to apply appropriate learning strategies for developing their English language skills. Despite the benefits that students have by applying mobile communication devices for learning the language, they also uncover several constraints. Low internet connection and high cost for online activities are constraints that students discover to be crucial. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesalahan-kesalahan dalam penulisan karangan yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas V Sekolah Dasar Negeri 17 Pontianak Kota. Data dalam penelitian ini diambil dari karangan siswa yang berjumlah 21 yang kemudian  diidentifikasi dengan menerapkan metode baca dan catat. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah instrumen manusia, yaitu peneliti bertindak sebagai instrumen. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman (2004). Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas V di Sekolah Dasar Negeri 17 Pontianak Kota telah melakukan beberapa kesalahan dalam penulisan karangan mereka dalam hal penggunaan huruf kapital, ejaan dan tanda baca. Singkatnya, 427 (73,75%) kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapital, 60 (10,36%) kesalahan ejaan kata, dan 92 (15,89%) kesalahan tanda baca telah ditemukan dalam karangan siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan Metode SAS (Struktural Analitik Sintetik) terhadap keterampilan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas I SDN 42 Pontianak Kota. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian quasi exsperimental design. Populasinya adalah seluruh siswa kelas I SDN 42 Pontianak Kota yang berjumlah 58 orang siswa. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh yaitu mengambil seluruh siswa kelas I. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan cara pretest dan posttest. Alat pengumpul data berupa tes bacaan membaca secara lisan. Alat analisis yang digunakan adalah SPSS versi 25. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol atau kelas tanpa perlakuan sebesar 69,50 sedangkan nilai rata rata kelas eksperimen atau kelas yang diberi perlakuan sebesar 78,33. Dilihat dari perbandingan nilai tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode Struktural Analitik Sintetik (SAS) berbantuan kartu kata berpengaruh dalam keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I SDN 42 Pontianak Kota.

Abstract

Teacher skills are an absolute must to oversee the implementation of an independent curriculum in schools. Teacher skills are important to continue understanding basic literacy concepts. Basic literacy skills are the foundation of all student learning, including those for science, technology, mathematics, character education, and higher order thinking skills. This strengthening carried out directly provides assistance to teachers in schools in educating students about basic literacy. Literacy is a very important thing for students to master, especially in the 21st century. Thus, this stabilization effort provides significant results for teachers and students in implementing an independent curriculum, especially at the elementary school level.
