Abstract

AbstractPadang Lawas is the largest Hindu-Buddha complex site in North Sumatra that includes Padang Lawas and North Padang Lawas districts. Biara Mangaledang, an exciting site in Padang Lawas, indicates the traces of stone relief work. The inductive frame of thought will reveal an answer to the subject matter by comparing it to a similar finding of Karmawibangga relief of Borobudur Temple, Central Java.AbstrakPadang Lawas merupakan kompleks situs bercorak Hindu-Buddha terbesar di Sumatera Utara yang wilayahnya meliputi Kabupaten Padang Lawas dan Padang Lawas Utara. Salah satu situs menarik di Padang Lawas adalah Biara Mangaledang berkaitan dengan adanya indikasi jejak pengerjaan relief pada batu. Melalui kerangka pikir induktif akan diungkapkan jawaban atas permasalahan tersebut dengan membandingkan temuan serupa di relief Karmawibangga di Candi Borobudur, Jawa Tengah.

Abstract

AbstractComputers were created to facilitate and accelerate the work of man. Archaeology as a discipline that is struggling with the database and the document will certainly take advantage of this technology. Many data are currently processed using a computer. However, software prices are still expensive, thus make some crucial software being pirated to make it functional and can be used. Open source software has been emerged as an attractive alternative for used as needed. Through explorative-descriptive method, in this case will be presented of the use of open source softwarefor archaeology.

Abstract

AbstractSimangambat temple is an unique temple in Northern Sumatera. The research on the temple has been done throughout 2008 until 2010. It successfully revealed the structure of brick and stone building of the temple. Its result is expected to give an idea of temple architecture and construction technique. It is considering that the architecture and construction of the temple can be associated with the character and relative periodization of the temple building .

Abstract

AbstractRelief art style that can be interpreted as a redundancy to a certain style, at certain times and places can be used as an indication for the presence of outside influences  that affect a work relief. In addition, by comparing the art style can be a relative dating to the building of the temple, in this case is a temple in Simangambat, North Sumatera.

Abstract

AbstractPublic Archaeology can’t be understood as a narrow-minded view point as an archaeological research and their object’s presentation and representation at the public only. However, public archaeology must be understood more widely as an archaeological view point for understand the public requirements and importance. These discipline have an important meaning for the socialization of supreme culture values at the past. On the future, those values will be reinforcing the national cultural identities from the foreign cultural influence. In order to those purpose, public role, active and seletive creativity in the foreign culture adoption without leaving any cultural identity, will be necessary.

Abstract

AbstractStory’s relief is a combination of narrative and visual art which function as a communication media for people in the past. It moreover consists of social culture information, story’s relief has also left tracks of the methode of an artist for framing the story in visual form. One thing that insteresting in this regard is time dimension visualization. Time dimension is extremely difficult visualized in the form of images without any information in the form of the verbal. Yet, the artist of the past were able to overcome these problems by way of a typical visualization without including any verbal information.

Abstract

AbstractIn the Piercian Semiotics, a reliefs can be seen as a system of signification that consist of, an object (called sign in Saussurean Semiotics), representamen (reference of an object), and interpretan (a new object (sign) as a result of the relation between an object and its representamen based on iconical, indexical or symbolical ground). By means of that, in order to understood why Sumateran arthist were sculpted the rakshashas figure in a dancing gesture on the base-feet of Biaro Bahal I, is by connected that reliefs with the iconical, indexical or symbolical ground that exist in their people. For example, a relation with the Vajrayana Buddhism doctrine.

Abstract

Salah satu tinggalan kejayaan Kerajaan Aceh adalah Gunongan. Gunongan memiliki konsep struktur bangunan terbuka yang berada di tengah kompleks Taman Ghairah. Penyebutan Gunongan sebagai Gegunungan Manara Permata dalam Kitab Bustanussalatin sering dihubungkan dengan pengejawantahan konsep Meru dalam Hindu. Dalam konteks ini, permasalahan yang dimunculkan adalah bagaimanakah gaya ornamentasi Gunongan? Adapun tujuan dari penulisan ini berkaitan dengan upaya memahami dan menggambarkan gaya ornamentasi tersebut. Apakah hanya berkaitan dengan unsur pra-Islam, atau juga mengandung unsur Islam. Melalui metode deskriptif-analitis diharapkan akan dapat memahami gagasan masyarakat Aceh pada masa lampau terhadap ornamentasi Gunongan.

Abstract

Candi Simangambat yang merupakan candi hindu terdapat di Kelurahan Simangambat, Kecamatan Siabu, Kabupaten Mandailing Natal. Berdasarkan pada temuan artefaktual penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Balai Arkeologi Sumatera Utara selama tahun 2008 2012 mengindikasikan bahwa candi ini memiliki rentang waktu pemanfaatan sekitar abad 9-11 Masehi. Salah satunya berdasarkan pada komparasi botol kaca yang ditemukan pada penelitian candi Simangambat dan situs Lobu Tua. Adapun permasalahan pada artikel ini adalah seperti apa ujud bangunan Candi Simangambat di masa lalu ? Masih terkait dengan masalah fisik bangunan candi, pertanyaan berikut yang muncul adalahdarimana batu-batu alam sebagai material penyusun Candi Simangambat berasal ? Berdasarkan pada asumsi rentang waktu pemanfaatannya, maka artikel ini mencoba untuk mengkomparasikan data arsitektural yang dijumpai di Candi Simangambat dan candi-candi semasa yang terdapat di Jawa. Selain itu juga mencoba untuk menelusuri sumber bahan baku batu yang digunakan di Candi Simangambat. Hasil komparasi arsitektural menunjukkan bahwa candi ini memiliki gaya seni yang sama dengan candi-candi abad 9 11 Masehi di Jawa. Adapun berkaitan dengan lokasi bahan baku batu yang digunakan kemungkinan besar terletak di Situs Kebun Baturosak yang tidak jauh dari Candi Simangambat.
