Abstract

Maimun Palace is one of the iconic cultural heritage buildings in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. It has a unique blend of Malay and colonial styles. The subject in this article deals with the building foundations of the Maimun Palace. The foundation part has a crucial role in a building, but it is rarely used as a research topic. The issues raised in this paper relate to the structure, composition, and function of the foundation. The purpose of writing this article besides answering the problem is also expected to be able to increase architectural treasury, especially regarding the style of building foundations that have a blend of traditional Malay and Colonial styles. Through descriptive-analytical research, the conclusion obtained from this study is that there are three kinds of building foundations that adjust to the function of supporting the buildings above which consist of one, two and three levels of the building.

Abstract

The form of burial in the ancient tomb complex of Sutan Nasinok Harahap is in the form of a mound of land bordered by flat stones. The problem is what the burial context and the characteristics of the tomb in the Sutan Nasinok Harahap Ancient Tomb Complex?. The purpose of this study is to determine the context of burial and recognize the complex characteristics of the tomb. This study uses an inductive reasoning model. Judging from the characteristics, the characteristics of the tomb have not yet been seen, only the orientation of the tomb indicates the absence of Islamic influence. Related to the burial context, the tomb is located far from the river, on a high place (dolok) and is in the banua partoru zone while Lobu Gunung Tua Batang Onang is in banua tonga which is adjacent to the banua parginjang zone (close to the river). Bentuk penguburan di Kompleks Makam Kuno Sutan Nasinok Harahap berupa gundukan tanah yang pada bagian tepiannya dibatasi oleh batu-batu pipih. Permasalahannya adalah bagaimanakah konteks penguburan serta karakteristik makam di Kompleks Makam Kuno Sutan Nasinok Harahap?. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konteks penguburan dan mengenali karakteristik kompleks makam tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penalaran induktif. Dilihat dari karakteristiknya, belum terlihat karakteristik makamnya, hanya orientasi makam yang menunjukkan belum adanya pengaruh Islam. Terkait konteks penguburannya, makam berada di lokasi yang jauh dari sungai, tinggi (dolok) dan berada dalam zona banua partoru sedangkan Lobu Gunung Tua Batang Onang berada di banua tonga yang berdekatan dengan zona banua parginjang (dekat dengan sungai).

Abstract

Biara Sangkilon is one of the many biaras in the in Padang Lawas archaeological area located in Sangkilon Village, Lubuk Barumun District, Padang Lawas Regency. In general, the arrangement of biaras in this region has its own characteristics, namely the main building facing the mandapa, with one gate. The problem raised in this paper is how the spatial constellation of Biara Sangkilon is? The writing purpose of this article is to get a description of the space boundaries based on the distinction of spatial functions and their relationships in the Biara Sangkilon Complex. Through descriptive-analytical research it can be seen in fact through the form of structure, distance, findings artifactual, and boundaries, there is a fairly clear division of space between sacred space, and profane at Biara Sangkilon. Biara Sangkilon merupakan salah satu dari sekian banyak biara di Kawasan Kepurbakalaan Padang Lawas yang terletak di Desa Sangkilon, Kecamatan Lubuk Barumun, Kabupaten Padang Lawas. Secara umum, susunan biara-biara yang terdapat di kawasan ini memiliki ciri khas tersendiri yaitu bangunan utama berhadapan dengan mandapa, dengan satu pintu gerbang. Adapun permasalahan yang diangkat dalam makalah ini adalah bagaimanakah konstelasi keruangan Biara Sangkilon? Tujuan dari penulisan artikel ini untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang batas-batas ruang yang didasarkan pada pembedaan fungsi-fungsi ruang beserta relasirelasinya yang terdapat di Kompleks Biara Sangkilon. Melalui penelitian yang bersifat deskriptifanalitis dapat diketahui ternyata melalui bentuk struktur, jarak, temuan artefaktual, dan batasbatas, terdapat pembagian ruang yang cukup jelas antara ruang sakral, dan profan di Biara Sangkilon.

Abstract

Kṛṣṇa's Story Relief that carved on Lara Jonggrang Temple is an interesting relief which is rarely glimpsed as an object of research. This relief's depict Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma's life since childhood to adulthood. However, not all of the story is being carved, but the selected parts only. The aim of this research is to know how to characterize of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma on that relief. This research will use instrinsic story builder approach that usually used in literacy criticism.

Abstract

Lara Jonggrang is one of the temples in Java that attracts several researchers from various disciplines. The abundance of discussion about this temple does not necessarily close the possibility of new discussion or merely reinterpreting old problems through new approaches. One of the aims of this study is to reopen the old discourse about Lara Jonggrang Temple which is considered to have reached the final stage through research questions, What is the relation between the reliefs of the Rāmāyana story and the Kṛṣṇa story in Lara Jonggrang Temple and the transfer of power in the Ancient Mataram in 9th Century AD? Through a descriptive-analytical method, this study found several things that have been considered final have still kept a few surprises from new interpretations. Through this article, it is shown that Rakai Pikatan and Rakai Kayuwangi play a role as a milestone for the construction, inauguration, and carving of story reliefs in Lara Jonggrang Temple. In addition, the existence of the two reliefs is also related to the process of transfer of power in the Ancient Mataram in 9th Century AD.

Abstrak Lara Jonggrang merupakan salah satu candi di Jawa yang menarik minat beberapa peneliti dari berbagai disiplin ilmu. Melimpahnya bahasan tentang candi ini tidak serta merta menutup kemungkinan bahasan baru atau hanya sekedar menginterpretasikan kembali permasalahan-permasalahan lama melalui metode pendekatan baru. Adapun salah satu tujuan dari artikel ini adalah membuka kembali wacana lama tentang Percandian Lara Jonggrang yang dianggap telah mencapai tahap final melalui pertanyaan penelitian. Apakah kaitan antara relief cerita RÄmÄyana dan Cerita KrÌ£sÌ£nÌ£a di Percandian Lara Jonggrang dengan pergantian kekuasaan Mataran Kuna Abad IX Masehi? Melalui penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif-analitis, ternyata beberapa hal yang selama ini dianggap telah final masih menyimpan beberapa kejutan interpretasi baru. Melalui artikel ini, ditunjukkan bahwa Rakai Pikatan dan Rakai Kayuwangi berperan sebagai tonggak pembangunan, peresmian, dan pemahatan relief cerita di Percandian Lara Jonggrang. Selain itu, keberadaan kedua relief cerita tersebut juga berkaitan dengan proses pergantian kekuasaan Mataram Kuna Abad ke - 9 Masehi.
