Abstract

Pengembangan komoditi ayam kampung di Kabupaten Sinjai mendapat perhatian lebih dari pemerintah melalui Dinas Peternakan dan Kesehatan Hewan dengan Program Perbibitan Ayam Kampung Unggul Sinjai (Akusi). Bibit ayam kampung unggul yang diproduksi oleh pihak dinas di distribusikan kepada masyarakat yang memerlukan terutama peternak dari keluarga miskin. Namun demikian, rendahnya tingkat pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat peternak penerima bantuan tersebut, menyebabkan peningkatan populasi yang menjadi target utama masih belum terealisasi. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan tingkat pengetahuan dan keerampilan masyarakat peternak ayam kampung unggul di Kabupaten Sinjai terutama dalam hal pemeliharaan induk (tetua), aspek penetasan dan penanganan anak ayam pasca tetas. Kegiatan pengabdian dimulai dengan tahapan sosialisasi untuk mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang dihadapi peternak, kemudian dilakukan pelatihan dan pendampingan, kemudian mengevaluasi capaian kegiatan. Paket teknologi yang diterapkan sebagai solusi ialah introduksi teknologi penetasan untuk mempercepat peningkatan populasi. Melalui tahapan kegiatan pelatihan, peneliti bersama dengan peternak menerapkan pemanfaatan bahan pakan alami sebagai pakan tambahan bagi tetua (induk/pejantan) ayam kampung untuk menghasilkan telur dengan kualitas yang baik, menerapkan seleksi telur tetas yang baik, penerapan penetasan telur dengan menggunakan mesin tetas sederhana, dan diikuti dengan penanganan anak ayam pasca menetas. Tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam kegiatan cukup tinggi, ditandai dengan hadirnya seluruh peternak yang telah mendapatkan bantuan bibit ayam dari pemerintah selama tahapan kegiatan pengabdian. Hasil penetasan menggunakan mesin tetas, walaupun memiliki daya tetas yang lebih rendah (55%), namun jumlah tersebut masih lebih tinggi dibandingkan penetasan alami menggunakan induk, mengingat kapasitas mesin yang lebih besar (100 butir). Bagi peternak yang belum dapat menerapkan teknologi penetasan, penetasan dapat diatur menggunakan induk akan tetapi pemeliharaan anak ayam segera setelah menetas dilakukan secara terpisah dengan induk untuk memperpendek masa istirahat bertelur induk. Penanganan anak ayam pasca menetas dengan baik menggunakan kandang indukan yang dilengkapi dengan pemanas buatan, ditunjang dengan pemberian pakan yang baik dan dilakukan vakasinasi secara signifikan mengurangi tingkat kematian anak ayam pasca menetas. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang telah dilakukan menunjang program pemerintah daerah dalam mengembangkan populasi ayam kampung unggul di wilayah Kecamatan Sinjai Tengah dengan populasi akhir rata-rata peternak 80-120 ekor ayam.

Abstract

A technology dissemination program aimed at the community is carried out with a focus on the main problems experienced by partners and provides sustainable solutions based on the potential and resources owned by internal partners themselves. The implementation of this program aims to increase the capacity of farmers by providing information on the potential utilization of natural resources in their land. That resources especially agricultural and livestock waste that can be used as a medium for developing feed ingredients from insects i.e., BSF larvae (maggot). It will be used as an alternative feed for native chickens. Service activities are carried out through several stages including preparation, socialization, extension and demonstrations, as well as assistance so that farmers can independently carry out technology transfer packages themselves. During the activity, group members showed a high level of participation. Demonstration plots for rearing BSF larvae followed by feeding either processed or fresh larvae to native chickens. It was focused on one member of the group who was more ready to receive the technology package. From the evaluation results obtained that partners have additional information on how to cultivate maggot as an alternative source of protein feed, get to know local feed raw materials around and management of free-range chickens. Maggot cultivation results that are harvested at the age of 15 days are directly given to members’ chickens. At the end of the service activities, partners get a lot of experience and new skills, namely maggot cultivation.

Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the hatching performance of native chicken subjected to the supplementation of L-Glutamine at different days of incubation.  A total of 240 fertilized eggs native chicken eggs with an initial weight of 48.85 ± 3.3 g, were subjected to injection of glutamine on the 7th, 9th and 11th day of incubation, while the control group received no injection. A total of 1.5% glutamine was dissolved in 0.5 mL of saline solution and injected at the pointed part of the egg with the target into the albumen. Hatchability, incubation time, and chick weight at hatch were determined during the study. The hatchability of native chicken treated with an injection of glutamine amino acid on different incubation days was still lower than of the control group. However, hatches were generally more substantial in size. The incubation time of the injected chicks was longer than that of the control. Chicks from injected of glutamine on the 11th day of incubation were 12.31% heavier than controls and did not differ from injections on the day 7th and 9th of incubation. The results of this study indicated that the administration of glutamine to obtain more massive chicks at the time of hatching could be conducted on the 7th, 9th and 11th days of incubation, even with lower hatchability.
