Abstract

This research is aim at improving to the reading comprehension of eight grade students at SMPN 2 Kedunggalar through Request (Reciprocal Question). In conducting this study, the researcher applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the strategy of the research. It was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted four phases : planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of the study were 31 students of class VIII B of SMPN 2 Kedunggalar. There were two forms of data in this study. The qualitative data were obtained by doing observing. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were obtained from the students? reading comprehension score of the pre-test and post-test and they were analyzed by using descriptive. The students have to reach four indicators they are understanding of content, generic structure, languages feature and purpose recount text. Applied request strategy can improved the students reading skill. The enrichment supported them comprehending the texts. The improvement was supported by the compare of the students? mean score from the pre-test, post test 1 and post-test 2 with percentage students passed KKM, 33 percentage 0%,41 percentage 9,7% and 77 96,8%. Their involvement in the reading class also improved. In addition, the students became more active and they enjoyed the process of teaching and learning reading.

Abstract

Memoirs of a Geisha is one of literary work that describes the issues about the development of Japan civilization and the growth of a certain profession called Geisha. This research aims to analyze the woman exploitation reflected in Memoirs of A Geisha. Method that is used to analyze the woman exploitation is qualitative method. As the object of the research, Memoirs of a Geisha is also become the primary data source. This novel is written by Arthur Golden and printed in 1997 by Vintage Books, a division of Random House, Inc., New York. The secondary data sources are the author’s biography and books of literary theory. In analyzing the data, the researcher used library research and descriptive analysis. In analyzing the woman exploitation, the writer uses feminist perspective. The term that will be analyzed consists of woman’s position, woman’s role, woman’s participation, and woman’s right. The result of the research shows that women are exploited in male-controlled. It also shows that woman must fight to get their right. Woman must be clever and brilliant to have the freedom. Memoirs of a Geisha is very interesting novel to analyze. Therefore, it is possible to be a good novel to read and take the moral lesson from it.

Abstract

This study aims to find out about everything that is in the song "Killing an Arab" which was popularized by The Cure. The research uses a qualitative approach that focuses on analyzing the content of the song. The data was obtained from documentation and observations of several articles both related to the song and articles about the phenomenon of racism. The result of the research is this song has a meaning that is difficult to interpret. Whether or not this song is racist depends on the perspective of each listener in interpreting this lag. The Cure's objection that this song does not contain racism clearly refutes everything that develops in society. But still for the racism in this song will never go away. Because everyone's perspective is different in interpreting this song.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the most dominant figurative language that usedin poems of Robert Frost.This study includes to qualitative research with a objective approach to analyze the poems of Robert Frost‟s selected poems. The sources of data is obtained in this study by looking for books and internet that contains about literature and poetry. The writer uses note taking method in the collection of data that is by reading, writing and looking for poems of Robert Frost‟s selected poems related to the formulation of the problems. The technique of analysis of the data is by reading, identifying, understanding, finding, and making conclusion every poems which is analyzed from the poems of Robert Frost‟s selected poems related to the formulation of the problems in the study.The results of the study shows that the most dominant figurative language in the selected poems are two Metaphor, eleven personification, four symbol, three hyperbole, and one repetition. So, it can be coclude that this selected poems are dominate by “Personification”.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk memberikan penyuluhan, pembinaan dan pelatihan kepada masyrakat pengerajin batik di Desa Banyu Biru, Kecamatan Widodaren, Kabupaten Ngawi.hal ini dilakukan karena para pengrajin batik tersebut menggunakan pewarna sintetis dalam mewarnai produk mereka dan membuang limbah pewarna secara sembarangan. Hal ini tentunya akan berpengaruh kepada lingkungan mereka. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya penyuluhan, pembinaan dan pelatihan dalam rangka mengurangi pembuangan limbah secara sembarangan tersebut.

Abstract

This study intends to enhance the first semester comprehension skills of Class X TKJ students at SMK Nagara Kedunggalar using the SQ4R approach. Action research in the classroom is used in the study. Only one cycle of three sessions was used for the research. Participants in the study include the author, an English teacher, and 26 TKJ students in the tenth grade from SMK Nagara Kedunggalar. Both qualitative and quantitative data are present in this study. The qualitative information was gathered through student and English teacher interviews, as well as observation of the teaching and learning process. The results of the pre- and post-tests for reading comprehension are used to generate the quantitative statistics. The three action research methodologies are used to conduct the study in a methodical manner. They include preparation, execution, observation, and reflection. The pupils must meet five benchmarks, including the ability to identify the main concept of a narrative work, identify references and vocabulary, and create a conclusion or summary. Additionally, the students' interest and participation can be increased by using the SQ4R approach. The majority of students are able to get past whatever issues they may have with the signs. According to the advancement of the mean value of the students' pre-test and post-test scores, the implementation of the SQ4R approach can improve the students' reading ability. Their post-test scores had a mean value of 83 while their pre-test scores had a mean value of 39. This accomplishment demonstrates how the SQ4R approach can help pupils' reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

Writing is one of the important English skills. The process to make good writing is difficult. There were errors in the writing process. Therefore, the researcher was interested in analyzing the kinds of errors in writing. The problem of this study is to identify the errors made by the third-semester students of English education department at Universitas PGRI Madiun in the academic year 2021/2022. A descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze this research. The researcher analyzed subject-verb agreement errors, verb tense errors, verb form errors, singular/plural noun ending errors, and word form errors. The steps to finding the data are: collecting the sources of the data, understanding the content of the writing, selecting the test which contains errors, analyzing the collected data, and drawing conclusions. The result of this research, from the lowest to the highest, is as follows: singular/plural noun ending errors (3.40%), subject-verb agreement errors (12.24%), verb form errors (13.61%), verb tense errors (30.61%), and the highest error is word form errors (40.14%). The suggestion of the researcher for the next researcher, there are still many aspects that can be analyzed from other kinds of errors and analyzing other skills of English such as reading, speaking, and listening concerned in the errors aspect.

Abstract

Desa Kresek berpotensi dalam pengembangan sebagai desa wisata. Terutama keberadaan monumen Kresek yang menjadi nilai ketertarikan pariwisata. Monumen Kresek adalah kawasan wisata yang dibangun pada masa orde baru memiliki fungsi peristiwa di Madiun 1948. Dalam pengembangannya melibatkan masyarakat setempat dalam Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) Desa Kresek. Sejak awal Pokdarwis telah memiliki peran aktif dalam pengembangan wisata Monumen Kresek. Sejak adanya penataan, terjadi peningkatan pengunjung yang datang ke Monumen Kresek. Sesuai identifikasi kebutuhan awal terdapat temuan informasi untuk memperkuat eksistensi pengembangan wisata sejarah Monumen Kresek dalam branding rekreatif & edukatif perlu dipersiapkan sumber daya Pokdarwis kompeten supaya dapat menjadi daya tarik bagi wisatawan. Terutama yang menjadi pemandu wisata yang hingga sekarang ini menjadi kendala prioritas. Metode pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan pelatihan dan pendampingan dengan melibatkan 10 anggota kelompok sadar wisata (Pokdarwis). Prosedur tahapan kegiatan ini dengan analisa identifikasi kebutuhan berdasarkan hilirisasi temuan tim penelitian di tahun 2019 dan 2020 serta hasil survey dan catatan FGD stakeholder dan Pokdarwis, rencana pelaksanaan kegiatan untuk realisasi kegiatan, Implementasi penerapan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepemanduan wisata serta evaluasi dan tindak lanjut program.
