Abstract

Background In tropical areas, Leptospirosis is still considered a public health problem, particularly in the event of heavy rainfall and flooding. Transmission of leptospira bacteria from infected animals, such as rats, takes place through the urine or blood. Different serovar leptospires can be found in different reservoir animals in the field. However, research on the presence of pathogenic leptospires in rats in Pati Regency, one of the areas with leptospirosis cases in Central Java, is very limited. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to identify Leptospira characteristics. Spp in rat and its distribution in Pati Regency. Methods: Rat capture was carried out in Bakaran Kulon Village in Pati Regency. Detection of pathogenic leptospires was carried out using the ropB gene and followed by phylogenetic analysis. As additional details, a buffer analysis was carried out to measure the distance between the positions of cases of leptospira and positive rats positions. Results: Pathogenic were found in 11.76% (2/17) of rats and shallows in the area of study. Based on DNA leptospires sequencing, Leptospira found in Bakaran Kulon Village Pati Regency were Leptospira interrogans serovar Bataviae and Leptospira borgpetersenii serovar Ballum, both of which are pathogenic. Based on a buffer analysis, Leptospira-positive rat was found around cases of leptospirosis at distances of 30 and 60 m. Conclusion: This study shows that Leptospira spp. in rats found around the location of leptospirosis cases, which indicates that rats have great potential as transmitters of leptospirosis to humans.

Abstract

Districts in Central Java have been reported as leptospirosis area, one of them is Purworejo. Leptospirosishas been reported in Purworejo since 2005, but less information and reports on rats species and leptospirapresence in rats and shrews. This study aims to examine reservoir of leptospira and describe infected serovar inPurworejo. This research was carried out in the Bendosari village Gebang subdistrit, on May until June 2011, andcross sectional study. Data collected by catching and continued by examination of leptospira with MAT. The resultshown, that total of rats and shrew were recorded for 30. The most rats and shrew prevalence were recorded about66,67% of Rattus tanezumi species, catched in house was about 66,67% with female was about 60%. The resultof MAT as much 30% rats and shrews infected leptospira with titer >1:40 and infected serovar are L. sarmin, L.semaranga, L. javanica, L. icterohaemorrhagie, L. Patoc and L. Sejroe. House rats and shrews has potentiallytransmited Leptospira in human.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Semarang city is one of leptospirosis endemic area in Central Java Province and the disease is always found annualy with its mortality rate had tendency to increase. The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in the period 2014-2018 increased from 18% to 25%. Rodents, especially rats are the most important reservoir and a maintenance host. A survey was conducted in Semarang city from March to November 2016. Rats was trapped twice and their kidneys were tested for Leptospira by using PCR. Kidneys containing leptospira were then examined by sequencing. Trap success in Jangli was 15,41% consisting of R. norvegicus, R. tanezumi and insectivora S. murinus. The success trap in Gajahmungkur was 35,89% including Bandicota indica, Rattus norvegicus, Rattus tanezumi and insectivora Suncus murinus. Positive Leptospira was found in Jangli Village (38,09%) and Gajahmungkur Village (56,25%) The positive leptospira were from B. indica, R. norvegicus and R. tanezumi. Result of the sequencing revealed that nine from 17 sample homolog with pathogenic leptospira. Among rat populations, especially norway rats are specific serovar maintenance host in the region and are proved to carry a pathogenic Leptospira bacteria.

Abstract

Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) often causes an outbreak, and presently, still no vaccine and drugs are found to overcome this disease. Stratified DHF are devided into four categories namely endemic, sporadic, potential and DHF freedareas. The transmissions of DHF are mostly found in the endemic areas. This study analyzed the data found in Grobogan regency on 2005. The objective of this study is to determine the larvae index (House Index, Container Index, Breteau Index) both in endemic area and sporadic area, by using an independent t-test. Result of the study showed that some parameters of larvae index in the endemic areas were described as HI = I9,96%, CI = I4,I4% and BI = 2I,86%. Yet, it appeared to have adifferent resut sporadic area (HI= 19,3 3%; CI = I 3, 2 7%; and BI= 26, 99%).
