Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the increase of students’ creativity in writing descriptive text by using Super PC with mind map method. The result of this study wasthe students’ creativity could be developed by means of creative teachers who also contextualized learning with media that students have known every day, that is by using super PC (Supermarket Product Catalog) media. The use of Super PC media in the seventh grade of Junior High School 2 Sidoarjo brings a positive impact to the students’ creativity in writing descriptive text. This can be seen from the comparison of Cycle I, that is, with index 2.26, with less creative category. Whereas in the second cycle (Cycle II), the index was improving to 4.45 with a very creative category. Students have a creative character and in terms of practicality, clarity, quality and usefulness. The results of writing gradually improve positively. This media is also specifically designed to overcome saturation, limited vocabulary in using international language in the implementation of learning that prepares students in the 21st century, especially students’ creativity in writing descriptive text.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Moodle-based Learning Management System (LMS) called eLSIDA (e-Learning STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo Asistif), which is validly used by students slow to study at STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo. This study used 3 out of 5 ADDIE models, namely Analysis, Design, and Development. Expert judgment in this study consists of two experts, material experts, and media experts. The research instrument used to obtain research data is a questionnaire. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed using descriptive analysis. Validation results from material experts obtained a score of 92.5%, while the results of media expert validation obtained a score of 95%. Based on the expert judgment assessment shown that eLSIDA that has been developed in general can be declared valid and worth to be used. The media that has been developed can be accessed through http://lms.elsida.ac.id/Although the development of eLSIDA has been considered valid, the effectiveness of the media on eLSIDA needs to be tested further.

Abstract

To sustain its future competitive employment both at national and international level, Indonesia Government needs to invest more in its human resources. Therefore,  education  is  the  critical aspect to prepare  highly  educated  and  well-trained  human  resources  for  an  innovation  driven global  competitiveness where ideas are needed to be spoken and trained from earlier age. This study aims to analyse the impact of oral presentation in improving students’ speaking ability in a suburb area in Indonesia. The researcher analyzed how controlled speaking task is able to improve students’ speaking ability in English. The data were collected from SMP Al-Islam Krian Sidoarjo since the school mainly represents the condition of the majority junior high school students in the suburb area in term of teaching and learning situation whom mostly shy and reluctant to show their idea off. While this speaking skill is urgently needed. This study shows that the oral presentation technique is able and effective to help English teachers to solve problems of shy and reluctant students find a way to express their idea spoken.

Abstract

This study aimed to know how using matching picture game as a strategy in learning vocabulary for young learners can increase students' vocabulary mastery at TK Kristen Petra 12 Sidoarjo in the academic year 2020/2021. The study took four weeks. During the Covid-19 pandemic, an online class met twice a week for 30 minutes each. Between April 3rd and April 28th, 2021, 8 sessions were held to investigate. The research subjects were TK Kristen Petra 12 Sidoarjo of the class B2 consisting 22 children. The researcher and the field note were the instruments. The tests were used to collect data before the study and after the picture game implemented. Before the Picture Game treatment, the students’ performance was below average. 2.71 was the mean. The children’ language mastery vocabulary was limited. The implementation of Picture Game increased the mean score to 3.62. The students used effective approach to obtain accurate results and logical reasoning to achieve their conclusion.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 menyebabkan hampir semua kampus atau lembaga pendidikan tinggi harus melaksanakan pembelajaran jarak jauh atau online. Hal ini seringkali dikeluhkan para mahasiswa, terutama mahasiswa dengan kemampuan rendah atau slow learner dan dianggap sebagai beban dalam proses pembelajaran. Salah satu model pembelajaran yang memiliki karakteristik mendorong mahasiswa slow learner untuk mampu belajar secara mandiri adalah self directed learning. Kegiatan sosialisasi pengembangan modul digital dalam Learning Management System (LMS) “eLSIDA” di STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo bertujuan memudahkan belajar mahasiswa slow learner dalam belajar mata kuliah dasar umum (MKDU) Bahasa Inggris. Modul digital yang telah diujicobakan dan diimplementasikan dengan baik kepada para mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan Sejarah Angkatan 2021 selanjutnya bisa diimplementasikan pada program studi lainnya yaitu program studi Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar atau PGSD dan Pendidikan Matematika STKIP PGRI Sidoarjo.

Abstract

Teaching students to learn and to work well with 21st century skills is not only the domain of vocational school (SMK), but also general senior high school (SMA/MA) as well. It is not enough for students to have only core skills in literacy and numeracy in order to succeed as individuals, citizen, or workers. This article deliberates how to implement the 21st century skills as the new learning paradigm for senior high school students. Furthermore, how the result of those implementations to the student’s career and life skills is based on the five elements as the indicators. For the first research question, the study was descriptive and qualitative. For the second research question, the study was descriptive and quantitative. The writers did an observation, which is workplace action research. There is a Career and Life Skills Program for the twelfth grade students of MA NU Walisongo Sidoarjo. The indicators included in the scoring result sheet consist of the five elements of skills that comprise the Career and Life Skills (CLS) domain. They are (1) flexibility and adaptability skills; (2) initiative and self-direction skills; (3) social and cross-cultural skills; (4) productivity and accountability skills; and (5) leadership and responsibility skills. The result of those implementations to the student’s career and life skills based on its five elements is quite good. At the end, they are expected will be job-ready with the skills most in demand in the 21st century.

Abstract

This research studies about politeness strategies in Charles Dickens Great Expectations. The writer analyze of Speech Acts in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations: A Politeness Language Analysis. The purposes of the research were to know the kinds of politeness strategies which used by the main characters in directive utterance and the politeness strategies of directive act in title. The data of this research was Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. This research was done by descriptive qualitative method. The research findings show that there were 2 types of politeness strategies. Based on the frequencies, the strategies applied in the data were Positive Politeness 145 frequencies (86%) and Negative Politeness 31 frequencies (14%). Based on the frequencies of directive utterance in the data were Pip 88 frequencies, Miss. Havisham 340 frequencies, Mrs. Joe Gargery 31 frequencies and Joe Gargery 8 frequencies.

Abstract

This research examines about plot analysis in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. The purpose of this research was to plots by Charles Dickens’. Great Expectations novel 1861 by Charles Dickens’ that the novel work of literature Victorian era. Dickens’ novels belong decidedly to the class of purposes or problem novels. He wished to make the novel an instrument of morality and justice, and his stories did more to correct the general selfishness and injustice of society towards the poor than all the works of other literary men of his age combine. This research using of plot theory. The authors can give the readers a deeper understanding of what the plot process idea in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. The plot in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations the author find that Dickens arranges the story by using chronological order. Having analyzed point of view the author finding out that in telling the events of the story. The author uses the first person of view, first person narrators are usually identified and differentiated on the basis of their degree of involvement with the events of the plot. Thus, the point of view in Great Expectations is given partly to the readers to judge the story by themselves. Keywords: Plot, Literature, Point of View, Novel, Great Expectations

Abstract

In the hybrid learning era, teachers increasingly need flexible and digital materials. Learning process is now conditioned as a need of students to develop their life skills. This process is carried out by teachers, students, parents, related parties, such as media, and the community. However,  not all the materials in the form of videos of learning are available and can be found easily on the internet. The purpose of this research is developing English supplementary materials for grade nine through YouTube platform based on the content, audio, and visual performance. Research & Development (R&D) Model was applied in this research. The findings of the research are the four revisions of the supplementary materials in the ninth grade through YouTube platform: (1)product: there is revision of the content especially for understandable aspect, that is a translation subtitle through YouTube for the content of supplementary materials, (2) lesson plan: some teachers suggest to make  the lesson plan available to accompany and guide them to teach, the writer make and give the lesson plan which used for accompanying the products which can be used, adapted, based on the students characteristics in each school, (3) modul as a systematic written book with simple explanation to make students learn independently is also required, (4) operational direction: the revision of operational direction is conducted by revising the description of supplementary materials which covers direction of learning, exercise and questions related to the supplementary materials.
