Abstract

Limit was to basic concept of derivative. The results of previous research found that learners have obstacles in understanding the limit function, consequently, the occurrence of difficulties and mistakes learners understand the concept and derived principles. This study aims to determine the obstacles of learners in applying derived properties. The approach of this research is qualitative by applying task-based interview with subject of 10 students selected by certain condition from 70 students in Mathematics Education Study Program of University of Bengkulu. The researcher is the main instrument in this research which is guided by the interview sheet and duty sheet. Data analysis was performed by genetic decomposition analysis. The results of this study indicate that the barriers of learners in applying analytic concepts and properties analytically include, the tangent line almost parallel to the y-axis, the break point (cusp) at x = -4, the second derivative, the extreme point, the emergence of contradictions, asymptotes flat, and do not understand conceptually. To overcome the obstacles of learners in understanding the concept and the nature of derivatives and its application, it is suggested to apply the mathematics learning model based on the extended triad++.

Abstract

Mathematics is a compulsory subject in vocational high schools throughout Indonesia. The ability to understand concepts is a competency that must be possessed in mathematics learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the variables that affect the ability to understand mathematical concepts. The variables are cognitive style, cognitive structure, learning style and learning motivation. This is a survey research, with a sample of 100 people. The sample was selected by simple random technique from all vocational high school students in Bengkulu City. The research instrument consisted of five instruments, namely a test of the ability to understand mathematical concepts, and four questionnaires of cognitive style, cognitive structure, learning styles and learning motivation questionnaire. The research data were analyzed through path analysis using SPSS and the Lisrel Application Program. The results of this study are the variables of cognitive style, cognitive structure, learning style, and learning motivation have a positive direct effect on the ability to understand mathematical concepts. From this study it can be concluded that the ability to understand mathematical concepts through cognitive styles, cognitive structures, learning styles, and student learning motivation is in a good category.

Abstract

The presence of cultural nuances of mathematics (ethnomatematics) will make a major contribution to the learning of mathematics. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe mathematical objects contained in the architecture of Jamik Mosque in Bengkulu City and how they are used in mathematics learning. This research is a qualitative research using ethnographic methods. The instrument in this study was the human instrument, the researcher was directly related to the research and acted as a data collector through library data collection, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques are performed by data reduction, data presentation and data analysis and data exposure. The results of the study showed that the shape and architecture of Bengkulu City Jamik Mosque has ethnomatematics related to mathematical concepts including triangles, rectangles, circles, cubes, beams, pyramid and tubes. The mathematical concepts found in the Jamik Mosque can be used to introduce and understand the concepts of the geometry concepts through local culture.

Abstract

Ethnomatematics is mathematics in a culture. The culture in question is the habits of human behavior in the environment, such as the behavior of urban or rural community groups, work groups, professional classes, students in age groups, indigenous communities, and certain other groups. Various attempts have been made to foster enthusiasm and student motivation towards mathematics. For example improvements in the curriculum, methods, and learning models applied. With the hope of improving student learning outcomes and abilities. One such effort is through ethnomatematics-based learning. Ethnomatematics-based mathematics learning has proven to be effective in improving students' mathematical understanding abilities. It is proven that from the results of research and several indicators of students 'understanding ability states that there is an influence of ethnomatematics on students' mathematical understanding abilities, namely in terms of identifying, translating, interpreting symbolic meanings, understanding and applying mathematical ideas, making an exploration (estimation) and the increasing value of student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Tunagrahita were a terminology to called the children with mentally retarded conditions. This conditions caused these children having difficulties at least on four areas, related with attention, memory, language, and academics. This research’s aims to find out how the cognitive thinking characteristics of students of Debile of Tuna Grahita at the Mahira Alam School are based on SOLO Taxonomy. This research were descriptive qualitative with field research. Research’s subject which were the students of Mahira Alam School as much as 3 students. Data obtained used by observation, task-based interview, and documentation. The result showed that used 5 questions that have been made by a level of structural problems, there were only two students who were tend to have the same response or relatively the same answer, while the questions with the Relational level can be solved by one of debile of Tuna grahita. However, intelligence and language skills both reading and pronunciation are still inadequate.
