Abstract

This reseach aims to determine the presence of Salmonella sp. In chicken meat sold in both markets. The study was conducted by taking samples of chicken meat in each market as much as 50 grams. In the Sukaramai market, samples were taken from three locations, namely location I, II, III and one location from Carrefour supermarket. The bacteria contamination test was performed by counting the number of bacteria each sample with Plat Count Agar (PCA) method, each sample was diluted and cultured on 10-1 dilution. Deuteronomy is done four times. Then proceed with biochemical test. The results showed that all four samples of Salmonella sp. From Sukaramai traditional market contaminated with pathogen bacteria with the average amount of Salmonella as much as 1.7 X 102 from the overall location I, II, and III and also found contaminant bacteria that can be a pathogen while from Carrefour supermarkets not found Salmonella.

Abstract

This reseacrh was conducted to determine the relationship between smoking and oral melanosis. The samples were all of male students of Sidorame high school aged 15-17 years. Data were obtained by examining volunteer’s gum and asking them to fill in the questionners given. The result showed that there were strong relationship between smoking and melanosis (r = 0.887) furthermore the R value is 0.94 which concluded that smoking contribution smokers melanosis is 94%.

Abstract

The research was conducted to observe the effect of Allium cepa L in reducing blood glucose level in white rat (Rattus novergicus). Treatments were consist of 2 ml and 4 ml of Allium cepa L and aquadest was used as treatment for control group. The result showed significant effect of both treatments using Allium cepa L compared to control group. Thus concluded that Allium cepa L has a good efficacy in reducing blood glucose level. But posthoc test using LSD did not show any difference between treatment groups of 2 ml and 4 ml.

Abstract

The research was carried out to observe the existence of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella in orange juice sold at setiabudi street, Medan. Descriptive analysis to 10 samples which examined in Balai Laboratorium Kesehatan, Medan showed that 3 of them contaminated by E.coli. The number of E.Coli found in the samples are above the standard issued by DEPKES RI 1991. Contamination by S. aureus and Salmonella were not found. Bacteria Total Plate Count value announced that there were some other species exist in the samples.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berupa pelatihan perbaikan mutu bibit dan pupuk organik swakelola bertujuan memberikan solusi atas permasalahan petani Buah Naga di Desa Sei Sijenggi Kec. Perbaungan Kab. Serdang Bedagai Sumatera Utara. Solusi yang ditawarkan berupa pelatihan pembuatan pupuk organik yang dapat dikelola petani, sehingga menekan cost produksi dan kebun Buah Naga serta menghasilkan Buah Naga organik berkualitas tanpa biaya mahal. Pembuatan fungisida nabati selain sederhana dengan bahan yang mudah didapat juga dapat menjaga kualitas Buah Naga organik dan meminimalisir efek negatif yang ditimbulkan residu bahan kimia sintetstis. Kegiatan PKM ini dilakukan pada bulan Mei 2019 di Desa Sei Sijenggi Kec. Perbaungan Kab. Serdang Bedagai Sumatera Utara. Metode yang digunakan berupa penyuluhan dan pelatihan. Adapun tahapan pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian, yaitu pelatihan perbanyakan bibit, pembibitan, pembuatan kompos, aplikasi kompos dan pelatihan serta aplikasi bioinsektisida untuk mengendalikan OPT. Berdasarkan hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM berupa pelatihan perbaikan mutu bibit dan pupuk organik swakelola guna meningkatkan produksi Buah Naga di Desa Sei Sijenggi Kec. Perbaungan Kab. Serdang Bedagai Sumatera Utara, disimpulkan bahwa teknik pengolahan pupuk dan pembuatan fungisida nabati yang diberikan tim dan diaplikasikan oleh petani Buah Naga di Desa Sei Sijenggi mampu meningkatkan hasil panen dari 2 ton pertahun menjadi 4 ton per tahun.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of the shiftwork system on liver dysfunction workers characterized by elevated of liver function enzymes SGOT (Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transaminase) in the employees at Inalum Company at Kuala Tanjung. The research was derived from primary and secondary data. Primary data was conducted by a direct examination of SGOT and SGPT enzymes at liver (expressed in Unit units per liter of blood serum (U/L). The secondary data obtained from the Smelter Public Relations. All data obtained were analyzed using paired t-test analysis techniques by comparing SGOT and SGPT enzymes between 324 shift and non-shift workers. Results showed significant differences in SGOT and SGPT among 162 employees with shift work from the average SGOT period I 34.4 U/L rise to 42.0 U/L in period II and the average SGPT at period I was 62.5 U/L to 73.4 U/L in period II. While the average SGOT and SGPT among 162 non-shift employees also increased, but still in normal limit (SGOT <35 U/L and SGPT <45 U/L). Employees with a shift work system experienced an elevated of SGOT and SGPT which resulted impact on liver dysfunction caused by fatigue and no resting time. Whereas non-shift employees experienced an elevated of SGOT and SGPT but have no affect liver dysfunction.

Abstract

Jamur Trichoderma sangat umum dijumpai dalam tanah dan merupakan jamur yang memiliki sifat. antagonistik terhadap jamur lain sehingga dapat diamanfaatkan sebagai agen pengendali hayati. Kemampuan antagonistik Trichoderma dibuktikan dengan kemampuannya dalam menghambat Fusarium oxysporum yang merupakan penyebab penyakit rebah kecambah pada tanaman. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu metode eksperimental yang terdiri dari tiga tahapan penting yatiu: isolasi Trichoderma, identifikasi isolat Trichoderma dan uji potensi isolat Trichoderma dalam menghambat Fusarium oxysporum. Terdapat 4 isolat jamur Trichoderma yang berhasil diisolasi tanah yaitu Trichoderma sp.1, Trichoderma sp.2, Trichoderma sp.3 dan Trichoderma sp4. Isolat Trichoderma sp.1 diketahui memiliki nilai zona hambat terbesar terhadap Fusarium oxysporum.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where cholesterol levels in the blood exceed normal limits and are a cause of risk of coronary heart disease. Generaly hypercholesterolemia occurs in old age but does not rule out the possibility that it can occur in adolescence. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia in adoles­cent patients in the Thamrin clinical laboratory in Medan 2017. This study was conducted in June 2018 with descriptive methods obtained by collecting secondary nomina from the results of the patient's laboratory examination. Based on the results of the study of the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia that occurred in adolescents as many as 123 people with a percentage of 17.7% of the number of adolescent patients who visited. The conclusion of this study is the state of hypercholesterolemia can occur in adolescents not only in adulthood and old age.

Abstract

Type-II Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder which characterised by the increase of blood glucose level (hypergliycemia). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of type-II Diabetes Mellitus in the Puskesmas of Blangkejeren, Gayo Lues District in 2015-2017 and to investigate the patient lifestyle. The research was conducted is descriptive method by colleting data from patient medical record and the result showed that the prevalence of type-II Diabetes Mellitus in 2015-2017 is 16,2 %, the patients were dominated by female and those in the age of 40-49. Most of patients found to have higher daily sugar intake

Abstract

Water color intensity is associated with topsoil concentration. The lower color intensity the lower topsoil concentration, pH and temperature. Peat water characteristic were determined by accumulation of    Natural Organic Matter.  The study was conducted on November 2017 to February 2018 in Health Laboratory of   North Sumatera by using 3 samples of peat water to find out characteristics of peat water bacteria. Isolated bacteria were analysed by macroscopic and microscopic examination. The result showed that the bacteria have various morphology and motility. Based on characteristics, sp1 was suspected to be in the group of Staphylococcus genus while sp2 and sp3 were belong to the Escherichia genus.
