Abstract

Chitosan can be obtained from chitin isolated from shrimp waste through the process of deacetylation of chitin. Chitosan can be used as a patch base material because of its biocompatibility and biodegradability, and has antibacterial activity. The combination of Chitosan and Aloe vera extracts may be useful in patch dosage forms as wound dressings that have antiinfective activity. The research methods was laboratory experimental which consists of : chitosan was obtained from shell waste sequentially by deproteinisation, demineralisation, and deacetylation processes, and analyzed its characteristic, respectivel; Aloe vera gel was extraction by maceration methods using ethanol as solvent; patches were formulated using 2 % chitosan in 1.5 % glacial acetic acid,  1.6 %  Aloe vera extracts and 10 % glycerin and evaluated its physical propoperties,  skin iritation test, and antibacterial test against S.aureus. The results showed that percentage yield of chitosan was 32.67%, with characteristics; Its viscosity 93.33 cps, pH 4, 30 % deacetylation degree.  Percentage yield of Aloe vera  extract was 22.73%, containing acemannan, and had antibacterial activity against S.aureus.  The result of patch evaluation showed that the thickness of patch was 0.45 mm, 114 times folding endurance, moisture uptake of 45.03%, moisture content of 23.64%, safe to use, and  diameter of inhibition zone was 6.39 mm against S.aureus. So, combination of Aloe vera and Chitosan from shrimp shell as patch may use as antiinfection wound healing.  Keywords : Aloe vera L.; chitosan; wound dressing; patch; shrimp shell waste

Abstract

Morbiditas and mortalitas caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) trend increase and become an important problem peoples health in the world. Through out the 80% of children AIDS victim has a prenatal infection from their mother. The aim of this study is to know the relationship between CD4 value and HIV stadium at pregnant mother infected by HIV/AIDS. A descriptive method was applied in this experiment. The sample obtained, from 22 pregnant mothers victims diagnosed of HIV/AIDS infection in Posyansus RSUP. H. Adam Malik Medan since January 2012 until June 2013. Data obtained by measuring CD4 value before and after ARV theraphy, then statistically  analyzed. The result out showed that 12 of samples (55%) have low CD4 value before ARV theraphy below 200 m3. Than, CD4 value were increased after ARV theraphy not affected by the stadium status. CD4 value before and after ARV theraphy has a negative linear corellation with HIV stadium (r = -0,743) it can be conclude that increased of CD4 value give an indirect contribution to HIV stadium victims.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the composition of secondary metabolites of crude extract “bawangbatak” (Allium  cinense) and anti-microbial properties of the extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This research was conducted in three (3) stage, stage I  by the manufacturing of crude extract of garlic bulbs “bawangbatak”, Allium cinense, through maceration method using a solvent n-hexane and methanol. In stage II, screening fitokimia, that is identification of secondary metabolites (alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids) to the crude extract of tuber “bawangbatak”, Allium cinense, and phase III, test bioktifitas crude extract bulb of  “bawangbatak” Allium cinense in the form of extracts antimicrobial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli extract using the concentration variation of 0%, 1%, 5%, 15%, 20%, and 25% and incubation at 370C for 24 hours. The results showed that secondary compounds was dominated by flavonoids, steroids, terpenoid and tannins. While at the test screening phytochemicals extra n-hexane showed no secondary metabolites, test bioktivitas against bacteria have inhibitory at a concentration of 15% with inhibition zone 14 mm in bacteria Escheriachia coli and 10 mm in bacteria Staphylococcus aureus this indicates onion extract  of “bawangbatak”  has the ability as an anti-microbial.

Abstract

The relationship of individual man and society is natural. The individual man will never exist outside his society. The individual can be more dominant than the society or vice versa. In Japan, society or group posseses a stronger role than individual. Japan is well known with its groupism. This sense leads Japan to mastering sciences, technology, and economics fields. The objectives of this research are: a) to know the phenomena of collective life; b) to kwon the dialougue between the conservative collective life and the penetration of the modern values; c) to know Japanese cultural values that bases itself on groupism and leads Japan to be a modern society. This research is a bibbliographical study, using hermeneutics with its three steps: description, interpretation, and philosophical reflection. This research is started with collecting data than describing the groupism phenomena in Japan. The compiled data are analysed and interpreted to find the meaning or values of the groupism of collective life phenomena. Philosophical reflection is used to analysed human and social cost of development. Finally, the result of the research are reported after revision. The result of this study that, first Japanese society is an organizational society. Second, Japanese development and success has changed the society to a complex culture with its pragmatic materialistic, individualistic, and hedonistic attitude. However, the Japanese traditional values have become the root of the development of the Japanese modern corporation that manifested itself on the ethical code of the companies. Third, Japanese groupism with is sense of organization is very accomodative to modern bussiness ethics.
