Abstract

Many studies have contradicted the reading aloud with silent reading instruction in EFL classroom. However, each viewpoint has its own arguments. Those in support of a silent reading claim that there exists psycho logical involvement in the mind of each reader and any written content. Through silent reading activity, students are trained to grasp the meaning of the text as int ended by the writer. On the other hand, the power of reading aloud cannot be seen as simplistic. Some believe that out loud reading instruction aid students to acquire new words and correct pronunciation, and comprehend language forms and mechanics, especially those with low English p roficiency. The students of Business Administration Department, State Polytechnic of Malang learn English as a foreign language in their ESP class. However, they still have insufficient English proficiency. In their English class, the reading aloud activity has been practiced as a method of instruction.On the basis of the above-mentioned background, this study intends to obtain the perspectives of students towards reading aloud activity in their ESP class. The problems of the study include (1) students’ viewpoint toward the benefit of reading aloud activity; (2) whether students feel any improvement in their English and aspects of the improvement; and (3) sorts of problems they encount er when dealing with reading aloud. The data are analysed qualitatively. The findings indicate that the students view a lot of benefits in reading aloud activity as it is building their self-confidence, recalling vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and managing pace and intonation in their reading.

Abstract

Indonesia ialah negara yang besar yang memiliki jumlah penduduk yang sangat besar. Banyaknya sumber daya manusia/tenaga kerja yang ada harus diimbangi dengan banyaknya lapangan kerja. Hubungan kerja yang terjadi antara pekerja dan pengusaha didasarkan atas perjanjian kerja seperti yang dijelaskan oleh Pasal 50 Undang-Undang Nomor 13 Tahun 2003 Tentang Ketenagakerjaan (disingkat UU Ketenagakerjaan). Perjanjian kerja berisikan persetujuan untuk saling mengikatkatkan diri dimana pekerja akan bekerja dengan menerima perintah dari pengusaha/majikan dengan mendapatkan upah serta memuat syarat-syarat kerja serta hak dan kewajiban kedua belah pihak baik yang dibuat tertulias maupun lisan.

Abstract

Pada jaman global seperti saat ini, mahasiswa yang juga berstatus sebagai santri (mahasiswa-santri) makin sadar tentang besarnya fungsi Bahasa Inggris dalam rangka meningkatkan kualitas Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM). Sebelum lulus, ketrampilan berbahasa Inggris amatlah penting untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan membaca buku-buku teks berbahasa Inggris dan sekali gus untuk menaikkan prestasi akademiknya. Setelah mereka lulus dari perguruan tinggi nanti ketrampilan berbahasa Inggris ini juga penting bagi mereka untuk mencari pekerjaan. Untuk membantu mahasiswa-santri, pelaksana PkM mengadakan pelatihan Bahasa Inggris dengan bantuan media pembelajaran komputer. Setelah pelaksanaan pelatihan ini ternyata para mahasiswa merasa senang karena pelatihan ini dinilai sangat membantu mereka dalam memahami Bahasa Inggris. Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan bimbingan dan pelatihan tentang pembuatan tas dari bahan benang makrame tali kur khususnya anggota PKK RW 10 Kelurahan Jatimulyo Malang. Sesuai dengan tujuan dari organisasi ini adalah bisa menambah keterampilan bagi para anggota yang bisa di jadikan kegiatan sehari-hari di rumah dan bisa menambah penghasilan bagi yang ingin memulai usaha. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah menyampaikan tujuan, mendemonstrasikan keterampilan, membimbing pelatihan dan bimbingan teknis, mengecek pemahaman dan memberikan umpan balik, memberikan kesempatan untuk pelatihan lanjutan dan penerapan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah bahwa para peserta memperoleh sumber pengetahuan, sikap dan ketrampilan di dalam kesiapan membuka dan mengembangkan usaha karya.

Abstract

Motivation has been a crucial part in language learning, including English since it contributes one’s success in learning the target language. Meanwhile, sorts of motivation vary. Therefore, the present study is intended to investigate the sorts of motivation in learning English as possessed by the students of Business Administration at State Polytechnic of Malang. The questionnaires were distributed to the students of two different study programs: Office Administration and Marketing Management. The data were then put in the table of distribution. It is confirmed that the students are highly motivated in learning English. Their intrinsic and integrative motivation surpass the other sorts of motivation. It indicates that the students have their internal drive to like and learn English. However, the external factors, like teacher, materials, for study, and career have become additional contributing factors toward their high motivation. Therefore, it is advisable that a careful program of English learning is provided to those highly-motivated students. Besides, a supporting English atmosphere and facilities are also essential. Last but not least, the successful English learning requires a better commitment among the members of the Department. Abstract

 School administration is one of the important things in the administration of education. With so many administrative activities, effective and efficient management is needed. The application of electronic archives has the main advantage which lies in the ease of management and management of records. Given the importance of managing electronic records, this guidance and training will be provided to teachers of Kindergarten ABA 38 Malang, because the school is a new school and is currently carrying out accreditation. In this activity the PPM team conducted counseling, discussions, mentoring and evaluation. After carrying out the education, further discussions were held regarding the case studies that would be raised in the mentoring and selected filings for school accreditation. So that assistance is focused on structuring evidence of school accreditation which consists of 8 standards, namely developmental achievements, content standards, process standards, educators and teaching staff, infrastructure, management standards, cost standards, assessment standards. After the training and mentoring the partners were very satisfied because it was very helpful to manage their school archives. In addition, partners feel more prepared for accreditation because the evidence prepared is tidier and easier to find.
