Abstract

This paper aimed to discuss about the intellectual network of Shaykh Abdusshamad al-Falimbani and his contribution to the grounding of Islam in Indonesia during the 18th century. He was one of the great scholars who had an intellectual network in Indonesian archipelago and Arabian Peninsula. He played a big role in the dissemination of Islamic lecture in both countries. His impact was widely documented in the biographies of the Arabic figure (tarajim) and isnad. Therefore, this study attempted to trace his intellectual network and his contributions to the Islamic world, especially in Indonesia at 18th century. This study used a literature study on the biography of Shaykh Abdusshamad al-Falimbani, information was obtained from literature sources related to him and his work. The results of this study revealed that Shaykh Abdusshamad al-Falimbani had a lot of intellectual networks that connected the Indonesian and Arabian Peninsula’s scholars  and played a major role in grounding Islam in Indonesia. This was carried out through the caderization of his students and the publication of his writings, which brought by his students to Indonesia. His works encouraged Indonesian Muslims to adhere to the teachings of Ahlu al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, hold on to syafi’i madzhab, and accept the sunni tasawwuf as the teachings of the Prophet.

Abstract

Kajian ini menjelaskan tentang Mlangi sebagai poros spiritual intelektual Islam di Yogyakarta pada abad ke-18-19 M. Desa Mlangi merupakan salah satu desa yang terletak di Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, yang dikenal karena banyak santri belajar di Pesantren Mlangi. Pesantren Mlangi telah ada sejak abad ke-18 dan berperan besar dalam menjaga spiritual-intelektual Islam pada masyarakat Yogyakarta pada abad ke-18-19 M hingga sekarang. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini menjadi menarik dikaji untuk mengetahui bagaimana pesantren Mlangi menjadi poros spiritual-intelektual Islam Yogyakarta Abad ke-18-19 M. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri aktifitas spiritual-intelektual yang dilakukan di Pesantren Mlangi di Yogyakarta pada abad ke-18-19 M. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan historis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa Pesantren Mlangi mampu menjadi poros spiritual-intelektual Islam Yogyakarta abad ke-18-19 M dengan adanya pembangunan Pathok Negoro, pengajaran ilmu agama Islam yang terintegrasikan antara akidah  ahlussunnah wal jama’ah dengan madzhab syafii dan tasawuf, serta pembinaan kader-kader ulama dan pejuang. Kata kunci: Mlangi, Pesantren, Poros, Intelektual, Spiritual

Abstract

In the 17th century AD, the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam reached its golden peak and became an intellectual and spiritual center of Islam in the archipelago filled with many scholars. Among them was Shaykh Abdurrauf As-Singkili, who became the Qadli Malikul Adil of the Kingdom. Therefore, this study seeks to examine the contribution of Shaykh Abdurrauf as-Singkili to the grounding of Islamic law in the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam in the 17th century AD. The research method in this study is a literature study analyzing Sheikh Abdurrauf as-Singkili’s books and related studies. The results of this study explain that Shaykh Abdurrauf As-Singkili contributed significantly to the grounding of Islamic law in the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam when he served as the Qadli Malikul Adil, recorded the Mir’atu Thullab which was a guidebook for the qadli, and made Aceh an intellectual-spiritual center of Islam in the archipelago.
