Kajian tentang sejarah asal mula Kota Balikpapan melalui perayaan Erau Balik Delapan, karena adanya fenomena budaya di sepanjang Pantai Melawai. Fenomena budaya yang belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya itu menjadi perhatian masyarakat yang mayoritas pendatang. Hal tersebut karena selama ini Kota Balikpapan dikenal tidak memiliki budaya asli, yang ada ialah budaya pendatang. Sedangkan Erau sendiri merupakan salah satu kebudayaan Kalimantan Timur yang sering dirayakan di tempat tertentu lainnya di Kalimantan Timur dan bukan di Balikpapan. Selain itu perayaan tersebut juga disakralkan dengan hadirnya Sultan Kutai, Ratu Kutai, dan Penasihat Sultan, sehingga sangat menarik untuk mengetahui keterkaitan Kesultanan Kutai dengan perayaan Erau di Balikpapan. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, berupa deskripsi mendalam terhadap fenomena sejarah asal mula Kota Balikpapan. Pengumpulan data menggunakan participant observation, indepth interview, dan dokumentasi. Guna mencapai kredibilitas data, dilakukan cara pengamatan secara terus-menerus dan trianggulasi. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan asal mula Balikpapan melalui Erau Balik Delapan merupakan perpaduan antara sejarah, budaya, dan legenda yang masih mengakar di masyarakat Kutai khususnya. In local wisdom that has a fair value, the local community has an identity for the nationality of the country. These national values are the basis for national resilience because in these symbols there are patterns in supporting things and as a form of filtering for globalization and support for national resilience. This research aims to find out the national values through symbolic symbols in Erau traditional celebrations in Tenggarong as supporters of national resilience. Descriptive qualitative analysis with Peirce's semiotic approach to interpreting symbols in Erau celebrations that have national values. Its superiority is able to interpret symbols in the Erau context in various other fields. Erau as one of the cultural forms created by the people of Kutai Kartanegara has a symbol of nationality in every ritual in it. Overall, the indigenous people, in this case, the Kutai Kartanegara Sultanate in carrying out Erau is inseparable from the mythology they use based on the Salasilah of the Kutai Kartanegara Sultanate and also the Panji Selaten and Braja Niti books. Mythology is a cultural root that has been passed down from generation to generation as the identity of the Kutai Kartanegara Sultanate and also the patterns of life of its people. In addition, some of the rituals in Erau were designed by the Kutai Sultanate, as well as those that had rules, as a sultanate, they also had separate rules.

Tourism is one of the capital in increasing the income of a region. Through culture, the traditions of local people also have a stake in developing the tourism sector of an area. The potential in terms of culture, nature, and man-made become an attraction for visitors. Not just for refreshing, tourism potential can also add insight into both religion and philosophical values in it. This service is done by using the method of collecting data using and in-depth interviews through observation to find out directly through interviewing the speakers around the tourist attractions. Data inventoried both in terms of culture, nature, and artificial without heeding the values of philosophy or symbols contained in the culture in the place. The city of Balikpapan and the borders of the Kutai Kartanegara region, namely Amburawang and Samboja, also have several supporting places as tourist attractions. In addition to its still attractive nature, culture as a potential supporter can be found in several places in these areas such as religious tourism, culinary tourism, or in accordance with the economic system of the surrounding community. Documenting literature, especially relating to the culture of people, its important in the area of the municipal and library services. Culture as part of efforts to maintain the identity of a society or region needs to be preserved in some way by way of documenting both the literature available to people, in the form of reference books and research results. Nor did it shirk its efforts to support literacy movements in the districts, especially the Kutai Kartanegara district together with the Office of Archives and the Kutai Kartanegara Library. The literacy movement itself began in 2016 has been activated by the Ministry of Education and Culture as the No. 23 of 2015 concerning Growth of Character. The strategy in supporting Kutai literacy in this service is first, through access to reading material in the nearest community library, namely by providing cultural-themed reading material in the form of print to increase the number and variety of quality learning resources. Second, local culture and history rewrite, and involving universities to expand and strengthen the public. Thus, the Kutai cultural literacy can growth and be a reference to both communities, academics, observers and researchers.

Abstract. The eastern region of Balikpapan is dominated by fishing communities in Manggar. In this region, there are attractions Manggar Beach. The government and the surrounding community have used both elements in their daily activities. However, the utilization is still not maximal. Although the government has improved the coastal infrastructure, it is still necessary to develop human resources in order for the economy through tourism to materialize. Through strategic stages, namely (1) data collection; (2) analyzing data; (3) presentation of the result of data analysis, expected to get data to become picture and consideration of government and society around in improving economy area especially tourism with community profession partly as a fisherman. The findings in the tourism sector have yet to show results for the economy in Manggar. This is because the creativity and innovation of human resources have not been optimized by the community and local government. The potential of the community actually exists to be developed in the tourism sector. This can be done through training the management of fishery products by following the global development so as to attract domestic and foreign tourists, making the coastal area as a tourist destination of choice.Keywords: Development Of Tourism, Economy, Society Abstrak. Wilayah timur Balikpapan didominasi oleh masyarakat nelayan di Manggar. Di wilayah ini terdapat objek wisata Pantai Manggar. Pemerintah maupun masyarakat sekitar telah memanfaatkan kedua unsur tersebut dalam aktivitas keseharian. Namun, pemanfaatan tersebut masih belum maksimal. Walaupun pemerintah telah memperbaiki infrastruktur di pantai tersebut, masih perlu pengembangan SDM agar perekonomian melalui pariwisata dapat terwujud. Melalui tahapan strategis, yaitu (1) pengumpulan data; (2) penganalisisan data; (3) penyajian hasil analisis data, diharapkan diperoleh data-data untuk menjadi gambaran dan pertimbangan pemerintah serta masyarakat sekitar dalam meningkatkan perekonomian daerah khususnya pariwisata dengan profesi masyarakat sebagian sebagai nelayan. Hasil temuan di sektor pariwisata belum menampakkan hasil bagi perekonomian di Manggar. Hal tersebut dikarenakan kreatifitas dan inovasi SDM belum dioptimalkan oleh masyarakat dan pemerintah setempat. Potensi yang dimiliki masyarakat sebenarnya telah ada untuk dikembangkan di sektor pariwisata. Hal tersebut dapat dilakukan melalui pelatihan pengelolaan hasil perikanan dengan mengikuti perkembangan global sehingga menarik wisatawan dalam negeri maupun mancanegara, menjadikan wilayah pesisir sebagai tempat wisata pilihan.Kata Kunci: Pengembangan Wisata, Perekonomian, Masyarakat

Tulisan ini berjudul Perspektif Laki-Laki Jawa terhadap Perempuan dalam Cerpen Ande Ande Lumut Karya Ratna Indraswari Ibrahim dan Dongeng Ande-Ande Lumut Karya Tira Ikranegara dengan menggunakan kajian struktur naratif. Struktur naratif dalam cerpen Ande-Ande Lumut karya Ratna Indraswari ibrahim dan dongeng Ande-Ande Lumut karya Tira Ikranegara memperlihatkan formula penceritaan cerita romantis yang berkisah sepasang kekasih saling mencintai dan dihadapkan pada masalah namun pada akhirnya mereka bersatu. Walaupun dengan plot yang berbeda antara cerpen dengan dongengnya, keseluruhan cerita mempunyai inti atau dasar cerita yang sama dengan melibatkan ketertarikan artistik dan kultur penciptaan cerita itu sendiri. Hal tersebut akan efektif bergantung kerangka kerja penerimaan imajinasi, pengalaman dan ketertarikan pembaca.Hasil analisis diperoleh bahwa sosok perempuan dari sudut pandang laki-laki Jawa yang sebagian besar mengharapkan bahwa ia harus dapat memahami makna ma telu, masak, macak, dan manak. Pandangan demikian, telah mengantarkan posisi “terhormat” di hadapan laki-laki, saat itu. Selain itu, perempuan diharapkan dapat menjaga baik buruk nama suami walaupun ada kepedihan di sana karena pada akhirnya ia akan mendapatkan hadiah terbaik akan kekuatan yang dimilikinya untuk menjadi perempuan yang dapat dihargai.

This research analyzes about the signs represented social values in the novel Paper Towns.There are two objectives that become the purpose of this study: 1) to explain the types ofsocial values in the novel Paper Towns by John Green and 2) to analyze the signs whichreveal the social values in the novel Paper Towns by John Green. The theory used in thisresearch is the Semiotics approach by using theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, there areQualisign, Sinsign and Legisign. The methodology used in this study is descriptivequalitative research to explain the data, because the data are analyzed in the form of wordsand sentences. The data are taken from the sentences and the conversation in the text in thenovel Paper Towns by John Green. The result of the research, the researcher found 4 typesof social values. There are stimulation, hedonism, security, and conformity. The researcherfound signs of words in the novel and analyze the signs using Charles Sanders Peirce'stheory and then the researcher revealed social values through signs based on the types ofsocial values by Schawartz.

The development literature is inseparable from the medium used. Human creativity to package his work, in this case with regard to literature is a form of culture that also will not come off with the medium. One of the media used to pack the literary work is a visual medium. Furthermore, the literature is termed as "visual literature". Visual Literature is literature, particularly stories that poured into visual images. Examples of visual literature in Indonesia can be seen starting megalithic era until modern times that temple reliefs, Wayang Beber, up to the comic. Through visualization, particularly in the form of comic literature is packed using the language of images at once the language of text that can imitate the sound or motion that is not possible as long as written. Images are further highlight certain symbols also have a purpose that facilitates the reader's understanding of the various parties, groups, and levels.

This research focuses on the psychology of a character in the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. There are two objectives in this study; 1). To find out the types of anxiety experienced by the character in the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and; 2). To explain how self-defense mechanism works to overcome anxiety in the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. This study uses Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis theory regarding anxiety and defense mechanism; the methodology employed is qualitative research in which the researcher tried to present the issues descriptively. The main data sources in this study were taken from the form of dialogs, descriptions, and sentences contained in the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. The results of this study, the researcher concluded that there were three types of anxiety experienced by the character in the novel Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, namely neurotic, moral and realistic anxiety. To overcome this anxiety the character uses four types of defense mechanisms namely displacement, reaction formation, rationalization, and sublimation. The most effective type of self-defense mechanism to overcome the anxieties that arise in character is rationalization because an individual where the reality that is lived is all based on logic and rationality.

This research aims to analyze the role of optimism towards self-actualization fulfillment in the novel Pollyanna by Eleanor H.Porter. The objective of this research is to identify the reflection of optimism obtained. The theory used in this research is the Optimism approach and the Hierarchy of Needs by Abraham Maslow. This research uses the qualitative descriptive method in the analysis of the novel. The researcher found the reflection of optimism and the basic need obtain in order to fulfill self-actualization. There are categorized the existence, help, happiness, and joyfulness which as the optimism reflection that became impact in self-actualization fulfillment of the main character.
