Abstract

Abstract

As we study higher education, the least we can do is contribute back to society. We need to apply the rule of ? Give and Take?. Inspired by our lecturer giving us support and encouragement. We, eight people, decided to visit an orphanage called ?Panti Asuhan Istana Yatim Al-Jufri? which located at sekupang as our class?s devotion target is in this area. We donate things such as food & drink, snack, stationery stuff and teaching the kids mandarin language based on our ability. We believe that even though we are not giving them much, but it?s better than no. right ? Seeing the kids smile and laughing is the best satisfaction we get from this implementation program. It may sounds like there?s no innovation, we do admit that. However, we thought that the outcome we get is far more important than innovation that we don?t even have any ideas.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is a bioceramics that is widely used as a bone and tooth grafting material, catalyst and adsorbent. Hydroxyapatite is a calcium phosphate compound that can be synthesized from natural ingredients with high calcium content such as coral reefs. Coral reef is a marine biota that has a CaCO3 content of 98.8%. This study aims to synthesize hydroxyapatite through the formation of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) from coral reefs. The research procedure begins with the process of calcination of coral reefs to form CaO which is then made into PCC with carbonation methods. PCC as a source of calcium is synthesized into hydroxyapatite using precipitation processes with variations in temperature (30°C, 50°C and 70°C) and aging time (7 hours, 14 hours and 21 hours). Synthesized hydroxyapatite was analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results of XRD analysis showed the formation of hydroxyapatite compounds from 2 sudut angles in accordance with the data (ICDD 01-074-0565). Hydroxyapatite which was synthesized at a temperature of 50⁰C and aging time gave the best results with a monoclinic crystal structure, a degree of crystallinity of 96.0772% and a crystal size of 20.1846 nm. The resulting hydroxyapatite can be developed as bone implant material, catalyst or adsorbent. Keywords: degree of crystallinity, PCC, temperature, ageing time

Abstract

Abstract-Increase of sales from one period to another. One reason that causes Mayora’s sales to be increased is the increased population, followed by the expansion that the company has done before. Mayora products cover a range of coffee, chocolate, candy, instant food, biscuit, wafer, and beverage. Mayora group consists of 5 subsidiary companies and one distribution center. Currently, Mayora is facing is the problem in raw material which always in the shortage condition. The availability of raw material for a big class of company like Mayora will be a potential problem faced by the company. There are some factors that influence the shortage of raw material which are the market price fluctuation, availability or infinity, growth for customers, the risks leading from supplying the raw material, decreased stock level, quality, imbalance production with the capacity, and economic downturn or inflation. Several theories are used in other to help justify the position of Mayora in the market, consist of: definition of raw material and commodity, five Porter forces, Fine et al, Kraljic’s framework, and Marshall L Fisher. By using those theories, the situation of Mayora business can be clearly defined and the writer is being able to justify six factors that influence the shortage of raw material in the real condition, they are: the amount of raw material consumed, high bargaining power of supplier, failure in harvest season, suppliers’ interest, delivery time, and seasonal trend. After doing root cause analysis and making the fishbone diagram, then the two root causes that are going to be examined is chosen, which are no change in Mayora’s production capacity, and only few competitive and competent supplier. Based on these two root causes that have been defined, some alternatives is chosen in other to solve the problem. Then, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to determine which solution to implement. After the AHP calculation, the solutions of optimizing the job of sales team in doing forecast and strategic partnering with local farmers will be chosen. The detail of implementation in terms of steps, resources (time, money, and people) required will be explained further. Keywords: raw material, supplier, shortage, forecast, partnering

Abstract

The utilization of enzymes in bioprocess industry increases annually. Enzyme ability to accelerate the reaction and its biodegradability make it preferable to be utilized as catalyst. Cellulase and xylanase are ones of common enzymes that used in industries, such as pulp and paper, detergent, syrup and more. Pineapple peel waste has potential lignocellulose content to substitute pure substrate such as cellulose and xylan which is not efficient in cost. Solid-state fermentation allows the microorganism to live in condition that suits its habitat. This research aims to investigate temperature of fermentation’s (25, 30 and 35 oC) effect on cellulase and xylanase enzyme production in solid-state and comparing the enzyme activities resulted with submerged fermentation method ones. Fermentation for enzyme production was done for 96 h and the pH of medium was adjusted at 4. Enzyme activity was obtained with DNS method using spectrophotometry visible at 540 nm. The highest enzyme activities were obtained at temperature 30 oC which resulted 0,054 U/mL for cellulase and 0,077 U/mL for xylanase. Keywords : cellulase, enzyme, solid-state fermentation, submerged fermentation, xylanase
