Abstract

Kebudayaan adalah salah satu komponen yang menunjukkan jati diri kita sebagai sebuah bangsa. Nilai kearifan lokal yang terkandung dalam seni budaya seyogyanya mampu mendorong semangat kecintaan pada kehidupan manusia dan bangsa. Kearifan lokal yang terkandung dalam seni dan budaya merupakan referensi yang bermanfaat, terutama dalam rangka edukasi generasi muda. Sementara di sisi lain, teknologi sebagai hasil kebudayaan yang bersifat fisik dianggap mereduksi nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam adat istiadat, agama, dan kesenian. Faktor-faktor yang menjadi tantangan bagi budaya lokal adalah perubahan tata nilai-nilai budaya dalam masyarakat serta matinya bentuk-bentuk seni tradisi di Indonesia, khususnya Jawa Barat, yang disebabkan oleh ideologi digital dan acuhnya generasi muda akan pentingnya nilai seni dan budaya lokal. Maka, dipandang perlu menumbuhkan kesadaran bagi generasi muda untuk lebih memahami budaya yang dimilikinya melalui edukasi seni pertunjukkan reak. Merujuk pada fenomena-fenomena di atas, kegiatan pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Pencarian atau pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka guna mendalami seni Reak sebagai ritual, hiburan, dan memperkokoh integritas kebangsaan berdasarkan semangat Pancasila.Kata Kunci : Nilai, Kebudayaan, Kearifan Lokal, Reak, Pancasila, Disrupsi Culture is one component that shows our identity as a nation. The value of local wisdom contained in cultural arts should be able to encourage a spirit of love for human life and the nation. Local wisdom contained in art and culture is a useful reference, especially in the context of educating the younger generation. While on the other hand, technology as a physical cultural product is considered to reduce the values contained in customs, religion and art. Factors that challenge local culture are changes in cultural values in society and the death of traditional art forms in Indonesia, especially West Java, which is caused by digital ideology and the youth's indifference to the importance of local artistic and cultural values. Thus, it is deemed necessary to raise awareness for the younger generation to better understand their culture through education on reak performing arts. Referring to the above phenomena, this service activity uses a qualitative approach which is analyzed descriptively. Search or data collection is carried out through observation, interviews, and literature study in order to explore the art of Reak as a ritual, entertainment, and strengthen national integrity based on the spirit of Pancasila..Keywords: Values, Culture, Local Wisdom, Reak, Pancasila, Disruption

Abstract

This community service prioritizes the documentation method through observation, interviews, and literature studies, which focusing on implementing of gamification in character building education that elevates the philosophical values of Reak's performing arts as its main content. This is closely related to the implementation of the preservation of local wisdom from an early age to the younger generation. A qualitative method with an ethnographic approach through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions by providing training on the Kaulinan Reak board game were uswd to analysed this project. The main targets are children in primary school who live in the vicinity of Reak Tibelat Art Studio, Kampung Jati, Cibiru, Bandung. In addition, strengthening character education is a form of concerning the implementation of habituation, practice, and a good model based on local wisdom. This habituation is realized through a fun learning process using the principles of gamification through board game teaching media and interactive teaching modules. The enthusiasm of the children in learning the philosophical values of Reak was indicated by their keenness in every learning activity using the boardgame.

Abstract

This study is designed to investigate the students' needs on English for Specific Purposes (ESP)  for students at Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR), majoring Public Administration (PA). This study is conducted on two reasons: first, the great demand of active  communication in English; second; the students' inability in implementing their knowledge about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in language skills. Therefore, this study will be guided by two basic research questions which led to identifying the students' needs towards  part of SDGs based material given in English class, and what kind of activities are appropriate  for improving their language skills. The data-led investigation into students' needs on the selection, presentation, and evaluation of the material concerning their orientation and preferred classroom activities. The appropriateness of the materials was also revealed as the basis for the necessary revisions for the existing materials. This design research is based on a descriptive qualitative study that will investigate the PA  students, PA lecturers, and the stakeholders. The procedure to collect the data was through questionnaires and interviews to clarify some raw data. The appropriate textbook used in the previous classroom will also be part of the data collection to find out the necessary materials. The findings will be used as guidance to design a suggested syllabus with some learning activities with the expectation to improve the student's language skills. Abstract

This study aims at investigating the types of ideational metaphor used in scientific texts and analyzing its implications on grammatical intricacy (GI) and lexical density (LD). The data are limited to the scientific articles published on International Journal of Scientific and Technology Research (IJSTR) Volume 10 - Issue 5, May 2021 Edition. This journal aims to promote the theory and practice of sciences, technology, innovation, engineering and management. A qualitative descriptive methodology is applied to this study. In analyzing the data, there are two grand theories used; Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (1985) to analyze the ideational metaphors and LD & GI formula proposed by Gerot, Linda, and Wignel (1995). An electronic based is also applied to count number of words and clauses containing in the discourse chosen which can be downloaded from http://www.usingenglish.com/resources/. This study found that ideational metaphor impacted on lexical density by showing the dense information conveyed through nominalization and condensed complex clauses. The lexical density found from the data (three representative articles) is  36.75, 49.48 and 40.51. Ideational  metaphor also impacted on the grammatical intricacy shown from the lower rate which is 1.29,1.31, and 1,24. Ideational metaphors characteristic are shown in the nominalization formed from the condensation of subordinate clauses into phrases, the change of process to noun dominated by relational process to goals or agent. This study is expected to be beneficial to lecturers and writers to consider applying ideational metaphors in their academic writing and to English teachers and lecturers to (re)consider the LD and GI of textbooks readibility for students. Keywords:  Ideational Metaphor, SFL, Scientific Text, Lexical Density, Grammatical Intricacy

Abstract

The transformation of information and communication technology is believed to not only change the context and pattern of social networks but also the perspective in addressing a social problem. The facilitation of the internet medium and cellular technology, for example, has changed the paradigm of nationalism, especially through audiovisual content. Through the mixed method as a research method, namely the combination of quantitative methods (a survey technique for the younger generation with an age range of 18-22 years) and qualitative methods (through a digital ethnographic approach obtained from the “drone emprit academy”), this study shows that the use of social media by the younger generation shows positive trends in maintaining the spirit of nationalism such as uploading topics with the theme of nationalism, Pancasila, and unity. It means that the more content with nationalism nuances that is shared through social media, the greater the awareness and encouragement to maintain the spirit of nationalism.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating how media depict corona virus through the use of metaphors in the headines and conceptualizing the metaphor by the use of mappings. The data were gained from the headlines of two English online media in Indonesia, The Jakartapost and Kompas.id published from March to May, 2020. The data analyses applied qualitative descriptive study through the framework of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) proposed by Lakoff and Johnson. The data were first selected from the headlines which were then analyzed and categorized to relevant conceptual metaphors through the bridge of mappings to understand and to characterize the relationship between two concepts (source and target domains) in the metaphorical process. Abstract

ABSTRAK Hoaks dibuat seseorang/kelompok dengan beragam tujuan. Hoaks biasanya muncul ketika sebuah isu mencuat ke permukaan, namun banyak hal yang belum terungkap atau menjadi tanda tanya. Menyikapi konten media sosial dan media berita daring yang menawarkan informasi yang bermuatan hoaks dibutuhkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi efektivitas kemampuan berpikir kritis sebagai sebuah cara dalam menangkal hoaks yang disajikan dalam bentuk informasi pada media media sosial dan media berita daring. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kombinasi (mixed method) dengan desain konvergen. Metode kuantitatif mengumpulkan data menggunakan teknik survei. Sedangkan, untuk metode kualitatif dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara mendalam yang hasilnya kemudian dielaborasi dengan data kuantitatif dan disajikan secara deskriptif. Unit analisis penelitian ini adalah 131 mahasiswa rentang usia 16 – 27 tahun dengan beragam jurusan yang tersebar di Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (PTN) dan Perguruan Tinggi Swasta (PTS) di Kota Bandung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mahasiswa mengakses informasi terkait informasi gaya hidup dan politik lebih dari sekali dalam sehari dan sungguh menyadari bahwa setiap informasi/berita merupakan representasi sudut pandang atau ideologi tertentu. Menariknya, responden merasa perlu mengetahui bagaimana cara media menyajikan informasi/berita dengan segala kepentingan yang melatar belakanginya. Suburnya infomasi hoaks mendorong mahasiswa mengkases banyak informasi dengan tetap mengedepankan rasionalitas dan objektivitas data. Tingkat kepercayaan terhadap informasi atau berita yang disajikan oleh media digital belum menunjukkan persentasi yang memuaskan. Salah satu alasannya karena kepentingan mahasiswa mengakses informasi atau berita masih sekedar mencari informasi hiburan dan mengisi waktu luang. Mahasiswa juga menilai bahwa media informasi/berita digital sangat berpengaruh pada pembentukkan pola pikir. Hoaks menimbulkan kepanikan, kegaduhan, menggiring opini publik untuk mudah menerima dan memercayainya sebagai sebuah kebenaran. Maka berpikir kritis menjadi menjadi sebuah keharusan kompetensi untuk mendengarkan dan membaca logika masyarakat, literasi media sejak dini, bijaksana dalam menyampaikan pesan, telusuri sumber berita, dan analisis wacana kritis.

Abstract

Pengajaran mata pelajaran Agama Katolik di tingkat menengah seringkali dihadapi oleh tantangan untuk menjadikan pembelajaran yang menarik dan relevan bagi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut dengan menganalisis penerapan variasi media pembelajaran dan metode pengajaran yang inovatif terutama media ajar flashcards dalam pengajaran Agama Katolik di Biara Pratista Kumara Warabarata, OSC Sultan Agung Kota Bandung. Metode kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus digunakan untuk menggali pengalaman dan pandangan frater-frater pengajar serta siswa-siswa yang menjadi peserta pengajaran Agama Katolik di biara tersebut. Studi ini juga akan melibatkan program pelatihan bagi frater-frater pengajar untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan media dan metode pengajaran yang lebih interaktif. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa dalam upaya meningkatkan pembelajaran mata pelajaran Agama Katolik di kalangan siswa tingkat menengah, penerapan media ajar berupa flashcards telah menjadi alternatif yang efektif. Metode pengajaran ini memanfaatkan kartu-kartu dengan informasi singkat, pertanyaan, kata kunci, atau gambar di satu sisi dan jawaban atau penjelasan di sisi lainnya. Dalam konteks pembelajaran Agama Katolik, penggunaan flashcards dapat memberikan sejumlah manfaat yang signifikan seperti membantu siswa memahami dan menginternalisasi nilai-nilai dan konsep agama dengan lebih baik, meningkatkan kemampuan hafalan ayat Kitab Suci, meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa, memberikan pengulangan yang efektif, memungkinkan pembelajaran mandiri, dan membuat pembelajaran lebih interaktif dan menyenangkan. Penelitian ini memiliki implikasi penting dalam mengembangkan pendidikan Agama Katolik yang lebih dinamis dan menarik bagi generasi siswa masa depan, serta merespons kekhawatiran masyarakat akan kurangnya minat siswa terhadap mata pelajaran ini dan dampaknya terhadap karakter siswa dan perkembangan mereka di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Materials for the public administration department must be updated to address challenges connected to the SDGs.The previous research findings portrayed the student's preferences in strengthening their reading abilities in SDGs contents, which is the first emphasis of this research; the second is the absence of specific English for Specific Material (ESP) reading material related to SDGs. Using action research, the phases of analyzing, exploring, designing, constructing, and evaluating will be anchored in this study, resulting in suggested reading texts with learning activities and exercises illustrated in lesson plans. The study's participants are students who have completed 60% of their classes. The findings of this study will also be assessed by substance and language specialists in order to validate and gain input for necessary adjustments to suggested reading materials and activities. The findings show 30.5% of students said materials regarding SDGs issues are extremely important, and 58.5% said it is essential to include them in their reading text to enhance their English. With 90% on the 'agree' scale, the expert judgment results support the applicability of the materials and activities designed. This demonstrates that the materials and activities designed are appropriate for the students in order to improve their reading skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenges faced by students in writing academic essay. A method is needed to overcome these problems namely by applying a genre-based approach or genre-based approach (GBA) to writing academic essays especially in general courses (MKU) Bahasa Indonesia. This study uses a class action research method (CAR) with the aim of getting transformation and improve the quality of student achievement results. Analysis of research data carried out with a qualitative descriptive and quantitative approaches. The data in this study in the form of observations, recordings, interviews, documentation taken from the RPP. Source the data of this study are students who took the MKU Indonesian (32 people) and documentation. The data collection technique used is the validation of data obtained from data triangulation results. The results of the research show that the use of the genre-based approach in writing academic essays is significantly increasing the ability to write student argumentative essays. This can be seen from the students' pre-test and post-test scores. The average value of the pretest is 61, 156 and the post-test is 76,375. This shows an increase in the ability to write argumentative text is equal to 15.219 point. The results of this study are expected to be used as a consideration for improving students' writing skills and also producing essay teaching guides in producing academic essays.
