Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the causality between Covid-19 cases growth and business continuity in Indonesia, thus can be formulated the post-Covid business strategies. The Covid-19 cases are modeled into ‘daily case’ and ‘active case’, while business continuity proxied with human mobility to grocery and pharmacy, also to retail and recreation. Using daily data ranging from March to December 2020, the Granger causality results show that there is a bidirectional causality between daily case and grocery-pharmacy business, whereas interestingly there is a unidirectional relationship from retail-recreation business to daily case. In active case model, author found a unidirectional causality from active case to both grocery-pharmacy and retail-recreation business. This research may be used to improve business strategy in order to maintain the business life during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia.

Abstract

The elderly population in Indonesia has doubled in the last five decades, along with an increase in life expectancy and mortality. Those who were born in the 1940s to 1960s or the baby boomer generation are those who are in old age now. There are many studies that analyze the relationship of wealth to one's health level, but not many have looked specifically at the elderly population. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of wealth on elderly’s health condition. Using binomial logistic regression, this study found that the highest average health probability of the elderly was 78.96 percent, i.e. those with working status, above average income and no expenditure on unhealthy commodities such as cigarettes, while the average health probability the lowest was 52.44 percent, i.e. those with non-work status, below-average income, and having expenditures for unhealthy commodities. This study found that wealth affects the health level of the elderly. These conclusions, accompanied by aging conditions in a country have policy implications that must consistently implement efforts to improve social welfare for the elderly, thereby creating healthy and active aging.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has relied on the agricultural sector as an economic base for decades. On the other hand, the more developed an economy is, the higher the reserves in the service sector. Despite this declining GDP, agriculture is still very important to the Indonesian economy, even though it is 14 percent of GDP. This study analyzes structural transformation through shift-share analysis. It looks at the tendency of labor to enter the agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors using probit regression on Sakernas microdata. This study found that the service sector continues to grow and outperforms the agricultural sector both in terms of added value and employment. The results of the shift-share show shrinkage in the productivity of agricultural sector while the manufacturing and service sectors are growing. This fact proves a change in economic structure. The characteristics of the agricultural sector labor force have a higher tendency for male workers, live in rural areas, are relatively older and have fewer family members, are less educated, do not have training certification, and have no previous work experience.service sector, agricultural sector, manufacturing sector, probit, structural transformation

Abstract

Abstract

Infrastructure development is considered as a locomotive that accelerates the pace of the economy in a region. The success of the development process is generally measured by economic growth. This study aims to analyze the effect of road infrastructure development on the economic growth of districts/cities in East Java and identify differences in the economic growth of East Java districts/cities before and after road infrastructure development. To answer the first research objective, panel data regression was used in 38 districts/cities in East Java with the dependent variable being economic growth, and the independent variable measuring the availability of infrastructure. Furthermore, to answer the second research objective, paired t-test was used. Road infrastructure, as well as government spending on public services and capital were found affecting economic growth at a decreasing rate. Tax revenue found to boost economic growth, implying that tax still one of the main instrument driving growths. Lastly, during the development of infrastructure, no significant difference has been found in economic growth. Indicates that the development effect on growth is a long-term effect. The results contribute to the discussion regarding the determinants of regional economic growth and how development can affect the economic growth of one or more regions. Keywords: Economic Growth, Infrastructure, East Java.

Abstract

Leadership is an important part in all organizations and continues to be needed over time. Becoming a leader with integrity in the current and future generations of millennial society is a critical challenge. The millennial generation is generally characterized by increasing mastery of technology and increasing intensity of use of social media and the internet. On the other hand, there are four dimensions of integrity that a leader needs to master, namely the dimensions of honesty, responsibility, tolerance, and love for the homeland. A leader who has integrity will gain the trust of those he leads, because what he says is also his actions. In the era of the millennial generation, effective leadership will be realized if the leaders can meet the qualifications as visionary leaders and have intellectual abilities. But a good leader must also have dimensions of integrity. This study aims to observe the phenomenon of educated millennials in the perspective of leadership integrity through a literature study. This research contributes to providing an overview of how the educational environment can be a part in shaping the integrity of the educated millennial generation. Keywords: Educated Millennials, Integrity, Leadership.

Abstract

Women frequently engage in small businesses related to the informal sector and make a significant contribution to the economy but frequently face gender discrimination and poor working conditions. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of female workers' income in the informal sector using microdata from SAKERNAS 2020. This study found several vital conclusions emerge. Firstly, an increase in the number of years of schooling positively influences the likelihood of attaining a decent income. Secondly, age initially positively affects decent income, but it decreases after reaching a certain age, indicating diminishing returns. Marital status plays a significant role, as married women in the informal sector are less likely to achieve decent income. Additionally, rural residence reduces the likelihood of decent income compared to urban living. Lastly, proficiency in internet usage significantly enhances the likelihood of decent income. The research contributes novel insights into the determinants of female workers' income in the informal sector, shedding light on specific factors that influence income levels, offering a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and advocates working towards gender equality and improved economic conditions in this sector.
