Abstract

Local people name Selaroides leptolepis distributed in Tomini Bay as Oci Fish. A study of the fish reproductive biology, which is one aspect of fisheries biology, is crucial to support the implementation of sustainable Oci Fish resource management policies. This study aims to determine the average length at first maturity, gonad maturity stages, and fecundity of the fish in Tomini Bay. Sampling was carried out using a stratified random sampling method from the catches of the fishermen landed in Fish Landing Base Kampung Tenda, Gorontalo City. The time interval sampling was conducted per month during April, May, and June 2020. Fish and egg samples preserved using ice cubes and a 10% formaldehyde solution correspondingly. The results of the study showed that the Oci Fish in Tomini Bay had a length range of the first maturity between 166 and 174 mm with a gonad maturity index ranging from 1.773 to 2.760%. The average fish fecundity was 16623 ± 4850 eggs.

Abstract

Togean Islands in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, are famous for their tourist areas, rich in natural resource potential, and underwater attractions. Octopus is a high economic value aquatic biota in Togean Islands. This research aimed to determine the Octopus species in Togean Islands, Tojo Una-una Regency, based on their body morphology. Identification was made by noticing external characteristics, including the shape of mantles, arms, color, and hectocotylus. Observations on the morphology of octopuses found in the Togean Islands have many similarities to the characteristics of the species Octopus cyanea. In males, an organ called the hectocotylus is presented at the third arm on the right side of the body. This organ is not found in female octopuses.

Abstract

Environmental mitigation measures are being undertaken as a proactive approach to prevent the adverse consequences associated with Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Presently, there is a lack of comprehensive information regarding the occurrence of HABs in the waters surrounding Bintan Island, and routine monitoring to assess the potential for eutrophication is absent.  This research should begin by gathering information about potential sources that contribute to the emergence of HABs, the specific types of algae with the capacity to trigger HABs The primary objective of this study is to identify the harmful algae species present in the coastal waters of Bintan Island. The research was conducted in August 2023, with the sampling process taking place at four specific locations within the coastal waters of Bintan Island. These sampling stations were selected deliberately to capture the varying activities predominant in each respective area. The microalgae found consisted of four groups, namely Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, Dinophyta, and Chlorophyta. Bacillariophyta is a group of microalgae with the highest abundance proportion at all observation stations. Harmfull Algae found in the coastal waters of Bintan Island generally come from the Dinophyta group of the types Ceratium sp., Peridinium sp., Prorocentrum sp., and Dinophysis sp. Harmful microalgae from the Dinophyta group were found at all research stations, with the highest proportion of abundance at Station 2 (6%) and the lowest at Station 3 (1%). The difference in these findings is thought to be due to the dynamics of the hydrosanographic parameters of the waters, especially nutrient concentrations. Keywords:BintanCeratiumDinophytaHarmfulMicroalgae
