Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan) invites final year students in health faculties to volunteer during the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of students in the nursing study program was 1084, and those who registered as volunteers were 174 (16.5%). As a humanitarian professional nurse, there should be many nursing students who have the motivation to volunteer and decide to volunteer. Based on this phenomenon, the researcher is interested in identifying student motivation regarding volunteering at the Pelita Harapan University Nursing Study Program. The research design used a cross-sectional survey research design. The instrument used was a functional model questionnaire from Clary translated by the back-translation method and tested for validity and reliability. The population was 174 nursing study program students who are volunteers. This sampling type is a total sampling of 137 students participating in the study with a response rate of 78.7%. The results showed that the motivation of students for volunteering is high. The highest motivation is in the protective component 78 people (56.93%). The majority of students stated that the motivation of the protective functional model, values, career (carrier), social (social), understanding (understanding), and improvement (enhancement) is in the very important range, very important, and important.

Abstract

Introduction: Blended learning is assumed to improve the students’ understanding of learning at nursing school especially in the current industrial revolution 4.0 era.  The combination of classroom and online activities is expected to provide better study outcomes.  This research aimed to compare the knowledge scores of the nursing students in blended learning concerning a research and statistics course at a private faculty of nursing.Methods: The knowledge scores resulted from the student’s score in their mid and final examinations (0-100). A total of 474 respondents who were third year students involved in the study.  This study applied a pre-experimental design. Due to the data having a significant non-normal value (p value < 0.001), this study further compared the mean-rank of the students’ score using a Wilcoxon test analysis.Results: The results of this study revealed that there was a significant difference (p value < 0.0001) between the students’ score in the mid (Median 72.5; SD 9.82) and final exam examinations (Median 86.66; SD 4.75). This means that the students had a better score in their final exam.Conclusion: Applying a blended learning method was a positive experience for the nursing students in terms of knowledge. It is needed to explore the students’ understanding and interest in their learning process using blended learning.

Abstract

Introduction: The implementation of the Indonesian National Nursing Competency Test (INNCT) has faced several challenges, especially related to the low pass rate. The pass rate has decreased over time, but the number of examinees has increased. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nursing schools’ performance in INNCT using the Context Input Process Product (CIPP) evaluation model.Methods: A quantitative description was used in this study. The Performance Evaluation of Nursing Program Questionnaire based on CIPP was developed and used to collect the data.  The participants in this study were faculty members and alumni from the nursing schools that were a member of AINEC within region V. The variables of this study were the nursing school pass rate and the school’s performance.Results: 320 participants were involved in this study. The passing rate of the nursing school in INNCT was in the moderate category. The CIPP evaluation shows that out of the four aspects, there were two (2) aspects, namely “context and input” that were in the category of having met the requirements and two (2) aspects, namely “process and product”, were in the category exceeding the requirements.Conclusion: Nursing schools have fulfilled the government regulation based on the CIPP evaluation and the nursing schools need to make a strategic plan to improve their performance and to increase their pass rate in INNCT.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pendahuluan: Sikap caring adalah salah satu identitas profesi keperawatan yang berusaha ditanamkan oleh institusi pendidikan keperawatan melalui proses sosialisasi profesi. Namun, pada kenyataannya ditemukan sikap mahasiswa yang tidak menunjukkan sikap caring. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu ada atau tidaknya hubungan antara sosialisasi profesi dengan sikap caring mahasiswa. Landasan teori yang dipakai adalah model sosialisasi profesi Hinshaw dan Theory of Caring Swanson. Metode: Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif, menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 45 mahasiswa angkatan 2011 Fakultas Ilmu Keperawatan Universitas x. Sample diambil menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data diolah dan dianalisis menggunakan chi-square. Hasil: Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian menunjukan nilai signifikansi hubungan sosialisasi profesi dengan sikap caring sebesar 0,019. Uji korelasi sosialisasi profesi dengan setiap kategori caring Swanson menunjukkan hubungan dua sub variabel caring yaitu “knowing” (p value = 0,001) dan “being with” (p value = 0,04) sebagai dua komponen yang sangat dipengaruhi oleh proses sosialisasi profesi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara sosialisasi profesi dengan sikap caring mahasiswa. Diskusi: Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar penelitian selanjutnya dapat mengobservasi perilaku caring mahasiswa sehingga hasil yang didapatkan lebih akurat. Kata Kunci : Sosialisasi Profesi, Sikap Caring, Pendidikan Keperawatan  ABSTRACT Introduction : Caring attitude is one of the professional identity that is tried to be internalized by the nursing education institution through professional socialization process. The process begin since the students entering the faculty and improving as the time goes by. However, in reality, there are students who do not show caring attitude. The aim of this study was to find out if there is a correlation between professional socialization and caring attitude. Theoretical basis used is a model professional socialization Hinshaw and Swanson’s Caring theory. Method: The study used quantitative method with cross-sectional design. The population was 45 batch 2011 nursing students of Faculty of Nursing, University of x, using total sampling technique. The data analyzed using chi-square. Result: The significancy result of the correlation test between professional socialization and caring attitude is 0,019. The study also found that two sub variables of caring that are correlated with professional socialization are “knowing” (p value= 0,001) and “being with” (p value = 0,04). The results of this study indicate that there is significant relationship between professional socialization and sudent’s caring attitude. Discussion: This research recommends that further research can observe nursing student’s caring behavior in order to obtain more accurate results. Abstract

  Evaluation in the first semester showed that there are 51 students of ETP batch 2013 who have to follow the matriculation program, seven students quitted the program, and five students from ETP batch 2014 were dropped out for violating academic rules. The mentorship program started in the Academic Year of 2013/2014 on its Even Semester. The evaluation for mentorship program has not been done within the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Pelita Harapan. Objective: to identify the mentor’s and mentee’s perception about the mentorship program. Methods: The study design is descriptive quantitative study. The samples are 52 mentors and 314 mentees. The instrument is questionnaires in the form of self-report questionnaire. The data analyzed using the univariate method. Results: 38 mentors (73.08%) and 208 mentees (66.24%) that mentorship program can increase knowledge in learning, 29 mentors (55.77%) and 165 mentees (52.55%) agree that improve collaboration with others. 20 mentors (83.33%) and 85 mentees (88.54%) from 24 mentors and 96 mentees that intend to leave campus agree that mentorship program can increase influence to remain in on-campus accommodation. Discussions: It is expected that the mentorship program can be developed better, specifically for the mentor recruitment program and the ongoing training for mentors.

Abstract

The implementation of the Indonesian National Nursing Competency Test faces several challenges, especially those associated with low passing rates. Low passing rates are a concern of all nursing schools because they reflect the quality of the institution. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors predicting success on the Indonesia National Nursing Competency Test. The research design was descriptive correlational. Participants in the study were 201 alumni of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Pelita Harapan in Indonesia. Statistical tests showed a significant correlation between academic achievement (academic stage GPA, professional stage GPA, English proficiency score, and tryout) and the national competency test, while demographic data showed no significant correlation. Academic achievement plays a significant role in success on the Indonesian National Nursing Competency Test.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Pelaksanaan Uji Kompetensi Nasional Perawat Indonesia menghadapi banyak tantangan terutama berakitan dengan rendahnya tingkat kelulusan. Tingkat kelulusan yang rendah menjadi perhatian dari semua institusi pendidikan keperawatan karena hal ini menjadi potret dari institusi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor prediksi keberhasilan dalam Uji Kompetensi Nasional Perawat Indonesia. Design penelitian menggunakan deskripsi korelasi. Partisipan penelitian adalah alumni Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Pelita Harapan Indonesia sejumlah 201. Uji statistic menunjukan korelasi yang signifikan antara hasil bidang akademik (IPK tahap akademik, IPK tahap profesi, nilai kemampuan bahasa Inggris, dan try out) dengan  uji kompetensi test, sedangkan data demografi tidak menunjukan korelasi yang signifikan. Pencapaian bidang akademik memiliki peran signifikan didalam keberhasilan pada Uji Kompetensi Nasional Perawat Indonesia.

Abstract

Mentoring is a relationship between someone who has more experience and someone who has less. The literature shows that a mentoring program can enhance the academic success and character development of an individual. A mentoring program started in the school of nursing at UPH in 2013-2014 and it was a new experience for the students. The purpose of this study is to describe the benefits of the mentoring program. The research design is a qualitative descriptive study. The number of participants in the study were 17 mentors and 34 mentees. Narrative qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The results of the mentors content analysis of the benefits of the program revealed three themes: joint learning, effective communication skills, and caring for others. The results of the narrative data analysis of the mentees produced three themes: mutual respect, kinship, and effective academic learning. Based on this research, it is hoped that the mentoring program can be further developed, especially in the areas of ongoing recruitment and training of mentors.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Mentoring adalah suatu hubungan antara seseorang yang lebih berpengalaman dengan seseorang yang kurang pengalamannya. Literatur menunjukkan bahwa program mentoring akan memberikan dukungan untuk kesuksesan akademik dan pengembangan karakter diri. Program mentoring mulai dilaksanakan pada semester genap 2013-2014 dan merupakan hal yang baru untuk mahasiswa. Perlu untuk mengetahui gambaran program mentoring dalam bentuk data naratif. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menggambarkan manfaat dari program mentoring. Desain penelitian adalah studi deskriptif kualitatif. Jumlah partisipan dalam penelitian adalah 17 mentor dan 34 mentee. Data kualitatif naratif dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis isi. Hasil analisis data naratif dari mentor tentang manfaat program mentoring menghasilkan tiga tema yaitu belajar bersama, keterampilan komunikasi yang efektif, dan rasa peduli kepada orang lain. Hasil analisis data naratif dari mentee tentang manfaat program mentoring menghasilkan tiga tema yaitu saling menghormati, rasa kekeluargaan, dan pembelajaran akademik yang efektif. Diharapkan program mentoring dapat dikembangkan lebih baik lagi khususnya untuk program perekrutan dan pelatihan yang berkelanjutan bagi mentor.

Abstract

Pain is a frightening thing and symptoms that are very complained of by patients with a diagnosis of cancerIn order to provide nursing care for pain, nurses need to carry out an accurate pain assessment. Pain assessment in one of the hospital is usually conducted by referring to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). However, nurses do not comply with this SPO so that there is a difference in the data obtained from thquality assurance section of a hospital with reality in the field. The purpose of this study was to determinnurses' compliance in implementing standard operating procedure (SOP) for pain assessment in a privatehospital in Central Indonesia. This research method is quantitative descriptive design. The population of thisstudy were 83 nurses who worked actively in the hospital's chemotherapy room, with a total sample of 30 nurses, taken by purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the level of nurse compliance inconducting pain assessment was as follows: almost most nurses (90%) were in good categories and 67% nurses (20 people) conducted repeated pain assessments in good categories. Nurses play an important role inconducting pain assessment and management in patients therefore the nursing care becomes more effective.Further research can focus on factors that influence nurse compliance in implementing pain assessment in cancer patient.BAHASA INDONESIA Nyeri merupakan hal yang menakutkan dan gejala yang sangat dikeluhkan oleh pasien dengan diagnosa kanker. Agar dapat memberikan asuhan keperawatan terhadap nyeri, perawat perlu melakukan pengkajian nyeri yang akurat. Pengkajian nyeri di salah satu rumah sakit biasanya dilakukan dengan mengacu pada Standar Prosedur Operasional (SPO). Namun seringkali perawat tidak mematuhi SPO ini sehingga terjadi perbedaan data yang diperoleh dari bagian penjaminan mutu suatu rumah sakit dengan kenyataan di lapangan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kepatuhan perawat dalam melaksanakan SPO pengkajian nyeri di sebuah rumah sakit swasta di Indonesia Bagian Tengah. Metode penelitian ini adalah desain deskriptif kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 83 perawat yang bekerja aktif di ruang kemoterapi rumah sakit tersebut, dengan jumlah sampel 30 perawat, yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kepatuhan perawat dalam melakukan pengkajian nyeri sebagai berikut: hampir sebagian besar perawat (90%) berada dalam kategori baik dan 67% perawat (20 orang) melakukan pengkajian nyeri secara berulang berada dalam kategori baik. Perawat memegang peranan yang penting dalam melakukan pengkajian dan manajemen nyeri pada pasien agar asuhan menjadi efektif. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat berfokus pada faktor – faktor yang memengaruhi kepatuhan perawat dalam melaksanakan pengkajian nyeri pada pasien kanker.

Abstract

Though blended learning has been applied in nursing schools in Indonesia, the number of studies with regards to students’ motivation and self-readiness in their courses is still lacking. In addition, many student nurses claimed that the Research and Statistics course was more difficult than other nursing courses. This study aimed to assess the nursing students’ motivation and self-learning readiness of blended learning in a Research and Statistics course of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Pelita Harapan. The preliminary study recruited forty nursing students for validity and reliability test purposes. Two questionnaires were translated and tested including the adapted Academic Motivation Scale and the adapted Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale for Nursing Education. Both Cronbach’s alphas of the questionnaires were above 0.8 (good reliability), however some questions were revised based on its validity test results and its readability. A total of 181 students were involved in the study and descriptive statistics were applied in the data analysis. The findings showed that nursing students had relatively moderate self-directed learning readiness (mean 90.18). With regards to academic motivation, students’ intrinsic motivation to know (mean 3.35) was higher than in other subdimensions of academic motivation. It also means that most of the students felt happy while learning and exploring something new in the course. In conclusion, motivation and self-learning readiness of students are important when applied to a blended course. It is recommended that nurse educators should identify students’ motivation and self-learning readiness to provide student-centered learning especially in a Research and Statistics course. Further research may involve more universities in different regions of Indonesia.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Meskipun blended learning telah diterapkan di pendidikan keperawatan di Indonesia, sejumlah studi berkaitan dengan motivasi dan kesiapan diri mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran mereka masih kurang. Selain itu, banyak mahasiswa perawat mengklaim bahwa mata kuliah Penelitian dan Statistik lebih sulit daripada mata kuliah keperawatan lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi motivasi mahasiswa keperawatan dan kesiapan belajar sendiri dalam mata kuliah Penelitian dan Statistik dengan blended learning di Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Pelita Harapan. Studi pendahuluan merekrut empat puluh mahasiswa keperawatan untuk keperluan uji validitas dan reliabilitas. Dua kuesioner diterjemahkan dan diuji yaitu Skala Motivasi Akademik dan Skala Kesiapan Belajar Sendiri (self-directed readiness) yang telah disesuaikan untuk pendidikan keperawatan. Hasil uji kedua kuesioner mempunyai nilai Cronbach Alpha berada di atas 0,8 (reliabilitas yang baik), namun beberapa pertanyaan direvisi berdasarkan pada hasil tes validitas dan keterbacaannya. Sebanyak 181 siswa terlibat dalam penelitian ini dan statistik deskriptif diterapkan dalam analisis data. Dalam penelitian ini, terungkap bahwa mahasiswa keperawatan memiliki kesiapan belajar mandiri yang relatif sedang (rata-rata 90,18). Sehubungan dengan motivasi akademik, motivasi intrinsik mahasiswa untuk mengetahui (rata-rata 3,35) lebih tinggi daripada sub-dimensi lain dari motivasi akademik. Ini juga berarti bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa merasa bahagia saat belajar dan menggali sesuatu yang baru dalam pembelajaran. Sebagai kesimpulan, motivasi dan kesiapan diri adalah penting saat melaksanakan blended learning. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar pendidik perawat atau dosen untuk mengidentifikasi motivasi dan kesiapan diri mahasiswa dalam memberikan pembelajaran yang berpusat pada mahasiswa terutama dalam mata kuliah Penelitian dan Statistik. Penelitian selanjutnnya dapat memasukkan lebih dari satu universitas di daerah yang berbeda di Indonesia.

Abstract

Kanker payudara umumnya ditandai dengan adanya benjolan pada payudara. Wanita yang terdiagnosis pada tahap awal kanker payudara dapat ditangani lebih awal dan dapat bertahan hidup lebih lama. Kaum wanita harus dapat melakukan deteksi dini kanker payudara. Perlu adanya penyuluhan bagi wanita tentang pemeriksaan payudara sendiri untuk mendeteksi dini kanker payudara. Tujuan penyuluhan deteksi dini kanker payudara dengan Teknik Periksa Payudara Sendiri (SADARI) adalah agar peserta mampu memahami anatomi dan fisiologi payudara, prinsip dan tujuan SADARI, memahami tehnik SADARI dan dapat mendemonstrasikan SADARI. Manfaat yang diharapkan dari pelatihan ini bahwa peserta diharapkan dapat melalukan deteksi dini kanker payudara dan melakukan rujukan lebih lanjut ke fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan seperti Puskemas, Klinik dan Rumah Sakit apabila ditemukan ketidaknormalan. Peserta kegiatan ini adalah karyawan outsourcing yang berjumlah 34 orang. Hasil dari nilai rata – rata pre test sebelum dilakukan penyuluhan deteksi dini kanker kanker payudara dengan teknik SADARI adalah 48.13 % sedangkan nilai rata – rata post test setelah dilakukan penyuluhan adalah 79.06 %. Terlihat adanya peningkatan dari tingkat pemahaman peserta sebessar 30.93% setelah dilakukan penyuluhan tentang “SADARI”. Peserta juga dapat mendemonstrasikan secara benar dan tepat cara melakukan SADARI.
