Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with 54 million informal economic sector actors. Many sidewalks with street vendors have been researched to obtain the general phenomena of the informal sector. In the other hand, Indonesian government still has no considerable action to manage these cases. Kaliurang Street is one of the streets filled with informal sectors. the street is situated in the heart of Yogyakarta Agglomeration Area (YAA). More than IDR 200 million per year or approximately IDR 1,000 of retribution per day (minimumly) have been paid by street vendors to the local government. Physically, pedestrians need wider walking tracks and separators between walking activity and trading .There are four alternatives of intervention by combining the two needs of economic and pedestrian sidewalks function. Creative is not defined merely as an artistic thing anymore, but thinking out of the box in uncertainty problems solving. Multipurpose space in pedestrian sidewalks means space in pedestrian sidewalk that is used not only for pedestrian, but also activities of street vendor, while on street parking is definitely argued to be reduced. Furthermore, it is hopefully followed by more research about creative physical design in urban contexts in facing the informal economic sector realm as Indonesia will face forward. Keywords: Pedestrian Sidewalks, Multipurpose Space, Design

Abstract

Since physical improvement carried out, at night social activity in pedestrian sudirman Palembang has increased. But economic activity during the day decreased. This study aims to show the impact of increasing physical quality on the development of socio-economic activities. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative deductive. In the process of analysis there are research variables that originate from the theory of developing social activities and economic activities (income, parking, labor and non-formal traders), which are analyzed qualitatively descriptive. The results showed that social activity develops on beheaded roads with better physical qualities such as lighting at night. While economic activity during the day experienced a decline, especially in the section of the road with the type of trade not supporting social activities such as spare parts and machinery. Factors that influence the use of space after increasing physical quality are accessibility, comfort and identity, attractiveness, land functions and activities, social functions and security.

Abstract

The imperative of ‘making cities resilient and sustainable’ necessitates cities to develop adaptation concepts and practices in response to the uncertainty, rapid change, and complexity of urban areas. A new concept of governance that can answer the challenges of contemporary urban development and ensure long-term sustainable development is required. This study aimed to identify the general framework of adaptive urban governance by review, elaboration, and analysis of documents, in this case, scientific articles that discuss urban governance specifically related to climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR). The results of this study include an overview of governance approaches appearing in the literature on CCA and DRR, which was parsed down to the adaptive and anticipatory approaches. Adaptive governance requires the principle of flexibility applied in the management cycle in policy formulation, while anticipatory governance requires the principle of proactivity with the application of future foresight in policy formulation. The dimension of governance consists of process/mechanism (risk management) and capacity (technical, institutional, financial, and human capacity). Some challenges in building good governance based on an adaptive approach are encouraging community involvement, increasing local government capacities, and building integration between actors, networks, and collaborations.
