Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan membantu panti asuhan Al Falah Yasmuba, dengan memberi pelatihan bahasa Inggris komunikatif berbasis game anak-anak di yayasan tersebut mampu berkomunikasi dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris secara lisan dengan lebih baik. Pencapaian tujuan tersebut dilakukan melalui pelatihan dengan metode meliputi: (1) Memberikan pelatihan dan workshop dengan menyajikan materi melalui tatap muka langsung mengenai pentingnya bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa Internasional, (2) memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris komunikatif berbasis game kepada anak-anak Panti Asuhan Al Falah Yasmuba. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan yang diberikan mampu meningkatkan pemahaman peserta terhadap kemampuan Bahasa Inggris. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan terlihat bahwa motivasi siswa meningkat dan ketertarikan terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris meningkat. Berdasarkan suasana pelatihan yang diamati pemateri pada saat pelatihan berlangsung, materi dan praktik games terbukti bisa membuat peserta pelatihan belajar bahasa inggris secara aktif, komunikatif, serta menyenangkan. Adapun saran yang dapat diajukan dari hasil program P2M, bagi para pengajar bahasa inggris metode berbasis game ini dapat digunakan dikelas pada situasi apapun baik formal maupun non formal dan terbukti menyenangkan bagi murid dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Abstract

This quantitative research was conducted to see if the use of English subtitled video on YouTube is effective to increase students’ vocabulary achievement, and to investigate the students’ perception on the use of English subtitled video on YouTube in vocabulary learning. The researcher used one group pretest and posttest design. The sample of this research was IX C students at SMP Negeri 1 Ambarawa. The instruments used in this study were vocabulary test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measures T-Test in Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software in which the significance was determined by p0.05. The result of the research showed that the mean score of pretest was 4.6 while the posttest was 6.1 with 1.5 different points. The result of t-value (6.049) was higher than t-table (2.045), and the value of significance was 0.000 0.05. It indicated that the hypothesis was accepted; therefore, there is a significant difference between students vocabulary achievement after teaching by using English subtitled video on YouTube. Moreover, the researcher used close-ended questionnaire to investigate the students’ perception after the implementation of English subtitled video on YouTube in vocabulary learning. The result of the questionnaire showed that the use of the medium was enjoyable, effective, and beneficial for students to learn vocabulary. This was proven by the result of the percentage of each item of the questionnaire which showed more than 70%. Thus, based on the result, it is concluded that English subtitled video on YouTube can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary achievement.Keywords: Effective, Perception, Subtitled Video, Vocabularydoi:https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i3.202105

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi apakah antara tugas konvergen dan divergen menghasilkan kinerja berbicara siswa yang berbeda dan menyelidiki manakah diantara kedua tugas tersebut yang mampu mengoptimalkan kemandirian siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada 42 mahasiswa jurusan Muamalah Universitas Islam Raden Intan pada tahun akademik 2016/2017.Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti memberikan tes bicara dan membagikan kuesioner. Kemudian data dianalisis secara kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara tugas konvergen dan tugas divergen pada kinerja berbicara siswa dalam hal kompleksitas dan kelancaran kecuali akurasi. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa tugas divergen lebih baik dalam hal mengoptimalkan otonomi siswa dari pada tugas konvergen. Oleh karena itu, peneliti merekomendasikan agar guru bahasa Inggris / dosen sebaiknya menggunakan tugas konvergen maupun tugas divergen selama tugas tersebut dapat membantu siswa untuk mengoptimalkan kinerja berbicara serta kemandirian mereka.The present study was aimed at exploring whether convergent and divergent tasks resulted in different students speaking performance and investigating which one of task between convergent and divergent was able to optimize learners autonomy. This research was conducted to 42 students of Muamalah majoring at Raden Intan Islamic University in 2016/2017 academic year. To collect the data, the researcher administered speaking test (realibility of pre test convergent: 0.97403, posttest convergent: 0.89481, pretest divergent: 0.95714, posttest divergent: 0.99058) and gave questionnaire. Then data were analyzed quantitatively. The result showed that there was no significant difference between convergent and divergent tasks on students speaking performance in term of complexity and fluency except accuracy. In addition, divergent task was better for promoting students autonomy rather than convergent task. Therefore, the researcher recommends English teacher/lecturers to use convergent and divergent tasks since they give benefits to students.Keywords: Convergent task, divergent task, speaking performance.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari perbedaan dari Round Robin Technique dan Talking Chip Technique dalam meningkatkan prestasi berbicara siswa dan untuk mencari hubungan antara sikap siswa tehadap teknik belajar dan pencapaian berbicara. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 30 siswa di kelas XI MIA 4 dan 33 siswa di kelas XI MIA 6 MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Tes berbicara dan kuisioner digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Penelitian ini menggunakan Independent T-test dan Product Moment Correlation. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara Round Robin Technique dan Talking Chip Technique dalam meningkatkan pencapaian berbicarakarena p0.05 (P=0,072 and 0,069). Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara sikap siswa terhadap teknik dan pencapaian berbicara dengan tingkat signifikan (0,000 0,001) dan hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa sikap siswa terhadap kedua teknik memiliki korelasi tinggi pada pencapaian berbicara karena r 600 (r = 0,738 dan 0,678). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik apa pun yang digunakan oleh guru, sikap siswa akan selalu memiliki pengaruh pada pencapaian berbicara. Semakin banyak siswa memiliki sikap yang baik terhadap teknik, semakin mereka berusaha terlibat dalam diskusi dan mereka akan mendapatkan skor yang lebih baik. The objectives of this research were to find out the difference between Round Robin Technique and Talking Chip Technique in improving speaking achievement and to find out the correlation between students’ attitudes toward the techniques and speaking achievement. The subjects were 30 students of XI MIA 4 and 33 students of XI MIA 6 in MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Speaking tests and questionnaires were used to collect the data. This study employed Independent T-test and Product Moment Correlation. The result showed that there was no significant difference between Round Robin Technique and Talking Chip since p0.05 (P=0.072 and 0.069). Furthermore, the result showed that there was a significant correlation between students’ attitudes toward the techniques and speaking achievement with the significant level (0.0000.001) and the result showed that students’ attitudes toward both of the techniques had a high correlation to speaking achievement since r600 (r= 0.738 and 0.678). It can be concluded, whatever techniques that are used by the teacher, students’ attitude would always influence speaking achievement. Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the types of errors made by the students in writing descriptive text. In conducting the research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative design. The researcher analyzed and described students' errors based on surface strategy taxonomy. The population of this research was the first-grade students of SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2020/2021. The sample of this research was X science 2 which consisted of 32 students. The instrument of this research was a writing task. The writing task was used to collect data on errors committed by the students. The result of the analysis showed the students committed all types of errors in omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. It shows that the frequency of the errors from the students' descriptive writing based on surface strategy taxonomy that is an omission that consists of 65 or 25%, the second is an addition that consists of 52 or 20%, then the third is misformation that consists of 130 errors or 50%, and the last is misordering that consists of 13 or 5%. Based on the result of this research was most of the students still committed all four errors types of Surface Strategy Taxonomy. It means that although the students were taught English especially in the descriptive text in Junior High School, they still had problems in writing descriptive text. DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i1.202106

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is an improvement in students’ speaking ability after they are taught by using picture series at SMPN 4 Natar.This research was conducted at the second-grade students of SMPN 4 Natar in the academic year 2020/2021. There were five classes in the second grade of SMPN 4 Natar. Each class consisted of 23 students. The researcher took class VIII D. This research used one group pretest-posttest design by giving the pre-test, treatments, and the post-test. The instrument used to get the data in this research was speaking tests. Speaking tests in the forms of pre-test and post-test were done to collect the data. Then, the t-test was used to test the hypothesis.The result of the hypothesis test proves that using picture series can improve students’ speaking ability. It can be seen from the mean score of the pre-test and post- test which was analyzed through SPSS 16.00. The mean score of the pre-test was53.7 and it was improved to 70 in post-test and the gain was 16.3. The result of the t- test shows that the level of significance is p 0.05 and the significant two-tail is p=0.000. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objectives of this research are to investigate whether there is a significant difference in the students’ reading comprehension achievement before and after the implementation of schemata activation strategy and which aspect that improves the most in reading comprehension after being taught schema activation strategy.This research was conducted at the third-grade students of SMPN 1 Bukit Kemuning in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher took class IX. The instrument used to get the data in this research was a reading comprehension test. Reading tests in the forms of pre-test and post-test were done to collect the data. Then, the t-test was used to test the hypothesis.The result of the hypothesis test proves that schemata activation gives a positive effect on students’ reading comprehension achievement. In addition, determining reference was the aspect of reading skills which improved the most after being taught by Schema Activation Strategy. This evidence proved that teaching reading using Schema Activation Strategy facilities more in determining reference. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore students'' perceptions about the TOEFL preparation class that has been held by the Language Center of the University of Lampung within a year, which later the results of this research can be used as material for future evaluations towards achieving better quality. This research is a type of qualitative research. In addition, observations and questionnaires will also be distributed to support interviews so that the data obtained are more valid. The subjects in this study were 11 students from various faculties who took the TOEFL class preparation course. Qualitative data related to student perceptions will be analyzed manually based on Descriptive and In-Vivo coding. As a result, from what the participants knew about the TOEFL class is they know it very well. The facilities provided are still lacking, the material provided was well packaged and quite easy to understand, the method used was still too simple and unattractive, the study schedule could be better arranged and learning could start on time. In this study, there were 5 students from various faculties who were involved as participants. Each of the students and students were interviewed. The questions asked cover several topics, namely what they know about the TOEFL class at the Lampung University language lab, the facilities provided, the material being taught, the teaching techniques used and the time management applied.Keyword: TOEFL preparation, course, student’s perceptiondoi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v11.i1.202288

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the effect of Time Token Arends to students speaking skills aspects. This research applied qualitative and quantitative research by using the cooperative learning method. In taking the sample, the researcher used the purposive sampling technique. The number of the sample is 36 students at XI MIPA 1 SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung. The instrument of this research was an observation sheets, documentation and speaking test. There were 2 lesson plans and worksheets for the speaking test. The finding showed that there was a significant difference of students after being taught by using Time Token Arends strategy. Mean score of Pre-test was 58.7 and mean score of first Post-test was 69.1 and second Post-test was 76.1. Accent aspect increased 4.00, vocabulary aspect increased 3.33, comprehension aspect increased 3.34, fluency aspect increased 2.80, and grammar aspect increased 1.73.; it assumed that this technique has positive effect toward students speaking ability. doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v11.i1.202299

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out whether there is significant effect of dictogloss method on the students’ listening achievement and to investigate in what part of speech the students get better achievement after learning through dictogloss method. The sample of this research was the first grade that consisted of 23 students. The instrument of this research was listening test. The researcher used paired samples t-test to analyze the data, in which the significant was determined by p0.05. The result showed that mean score of pretest (24.56) and posttest (55.65) in which t-valuet-table (9.264 2.074) or sig p0.05 (0.0000.05). Furthermore, part of speech in listening test that improved the most after learning through dictogloss method was verb. As a result, it can be concluded that dictogloss method is effective to improve students’ listening achievement. Dictogloss method can help the students in understanding the text easier, especially in descriptive text.Keyword: Dictogloss method, Listening Comprehension, Descriptive Text
