Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa dalam penggunaan media serial gambar dalam pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang melibatkan murid SMA kelas tiga. Subjek terdiri dari observasi partisipan. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah rekaman video dan wawancara. Untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa, peneliti menganalisis persepsi siswa berdasarkan lima kategori persepsi yang diadopsi dari Robinson (2001a), yaitu tingkat kesulitan, tingkat stres, tingkat kepercayaan diri, minat dan motivasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada alasan positif (+) dan negatif (-) persepsi siswa tentang penggunaan media serial gambar dalam belajar berbicara bahasa Inggris. Dan hasil menunjukkan sebagian besar siswa berkomentar kurangnya kemampuan untuk menemukan dan mengubah kata-kata bahasa Inggris lainnya yang mengacu pada prosedur ketiga pada media serial gambar. Oleh karena itu, disimpulkan bahwa media serial gambar berdampak positif dan berdampak negatif bagi siswa dalam belajar berbicara bahasa Inggris. The objective of this study is to find out the students’ perceptions of the use of picture series in learning speaking English. This study used qualitative method involving the third grade of senior high school students. The subject consisted of participant observation. The instrument of this research was video recording and interview. To know the students’ perceptions, the researcher analyzed the students’ perceptions by interview questions were adopted from Robinson (2001a) such as difficulty level, stress degree, confidence degree, interest and motivation. The results of this research showed that there were positive (+) and negative (-) reasons of students’ perceptions of the use of picture series in learning speaking English. The result showed most of the students commented they were lack of ability to find and change other English words referred to third procedure of picture series. Therefore, it concludes that picture series medium makes positive impacts and negative impacts to the students in learning speaking English. Keywords: students’ perceptions, picture series, speaking

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan siswadalam berbicara teks recount antara sebelum dan setelah penerapan board game. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa tingkat pertama SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung. Test berbicara digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara teks recount setelah penerapan board game dengan tingkat signifikansi p0.05 (p=0.00). Dengan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik board game dapat membantu siswadalam meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam berbicara.Abstract. This study was aimed at finding out whether there was a statistically significant difference of students speaking ability of recount texts before and after the implementation of the board game. This research was a quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 35 students at the first year of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung. The speaking test was administered as the instrument of this research. The result showed that there was a statistically significant difference of the students speaking ability after the implementation of board game with the significant level of p0.05 (p=0.00). This suggests that speaking through board game facilitates the students to improve their speaking ability.Keywords: board game, recount text, speaking

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki apakah i) pelatihan strategi kognitif secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dan ii) proses pelatihan strategi kognitif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi eksperimental dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian berasal dari 60 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol dan eksperimen. Data dikumpulkan melalui test awal, test akhir, dan perlakuan (training). Data dari tes dianalisis menggunakan SPSS. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan strategi kognitif meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05. Selanjutnya, proses pelatihan strategi kognitif berjalan dengan lancar dalam arti siswa dapat menerapkan strategi kognitif selama proses pelatihan.. Ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan strategi kognitif mempermudah siswa untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca mereka.This research investigated whether i) cognitive strategy training significantly improved students’ reading comprehension and ii) the process of cognitive strategy training in improving students’ reading comprehension. The research used quasi-experimental design using quantitative approach. The subjects of the research were 60 students for both control and experimental classes. The data were collected through the pre test, post test, and treatment. The data from the tests were analyzed using SPSS. The result showed that cognitive strategy training improved the students' reading comprehension with the significant level 0.05. Furthermore, the process of cognitive strategy training ran well in the sense that the students could apply cognitive strategies during the training process. This suggests that cognitive strategy training facilitates learners to improve their reading comprehension.Keywords: Cognitive strategy, cognitive strategy training, reading comprehension.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan a) apakah ada hubungan antara perilaku motivasi siswa terhadap hasil pemahaman membaca mereka dan b) apa jenis perilaku motivasi yang paling mempengaruhi terhadap hasil pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian ini sebanyak 26 siswa kelas dua SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Tes kuesioner dan membaca digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Analisis data menggunakan program statistik untuk ilmu sosial (SPSS) versi 16.0. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara perilaku motivasi siswa terhadap hasil pemahaman membaca siswa dan attention merupakan jenis perilaku motivasi siswa yang paling mempengaruhi terhadap hasil pemahaman membaca siswa. Dapat disarankan bahwa perilaku motivasi berperan penting didalam pemahaman membaca siswa.The aims of this study were to find out a) the correlation between students motivational behavior and their reading comprehension and b) what kind of motivational behavior mostly influences students reading comprehension. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 26 second grade students of SMAN 1 Pringsewu. The Questionnaire and reading tests were administrated as the instrument. The data were analyzed by using statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0. The result showed that there was a significant correlation between the students, motivational behavior and their reading comprehension with the significant level 0.000.05. Attention, as a part of motivational behavior, provides the most contribution to students reading comprehension. This suggests that motivational behavior plays an important role in reading comprehension.Keywords: correlation, motivational behavior, reading comprehension

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan pada kemampuan kosa kata siswa setelah penerapan teknik pictionary game. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 17 siswa tingkat pertama SMPN 1 Way Tuba. Test kosa kata digunakan sebagai alat untuk pengambilan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan kemampuan kosa kata siswa setelah penerapan teknik pictionary game. Dengan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik pictionary game dapat membantu siswa mengingat kosa kata dengan lebih mudah dengan cara menebak kata melalui gambar.This study was aimed at finding out whether there was an improvement of students vocabulary achievement after the implementation of pictionary game technique. This research was quantitative. The subjects of this research were 17 students at the first year of SMPN 1 Way Tuba. A vocabulary test was administered as the instrument of this research. The result showed that there was an improvement of students vocabulary achievement after the implementation of pictionary game technique. This suggests that pictionary game technique facilitates the students to acquire the vocabulary more easily.Keywords: game, pictionary, vocabulary.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan dari penguasaan kosa kata siswa setelah penerapan lagu bahasa Inggris sebagai media dalam pengajaran kosa kata dan jenis kata konten mana yang paling meningkat. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa kelas X IPS2 SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung tahun akademik 2018/2019. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes kosakata. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan paired sample t-test dengan tingkat signifikansi p 0,05 melalui SPSS versi 16.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada pencapaian kosakata siswa yang signifikan secara statistik, dan kata benda adalah jenis kata konten yang paling meningkat.The aims of the study were to find out whether there was a significant improvement of the students’ vocabulary achievement after the implementation of English song as a media in teaching vocabulary and which type of content words which improved the most. The subjects of this research were 32 students of class X IPS2 of SMAN 5 Bandar Lampung 2018/2019 academic year. The instrument of this research was vocabulary test. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test with the significant level of p0.05 through SPSS version 16.0. The results showed that there were a statistically significant increase of students’ vocabulary achievement, and noun was type of content words that improved the most. Keywords: Teaching vocabulary, English song, Vocabulary achievement.

Abstract

Miskomunikasi dapat terjadi karena ketidakmampuan penutur untuk mengungkapkan maksud mereka dengan jelas. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengembangkan kompetensi pragmatis dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris kepada siswa keperawatan untuk membantu mereka mengatasi beberapa kesulitan bahasa ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan praktisi kesehatan lain / pasien di wilayah internasional. Bukti empiris mengungkapkan bahwa hambatan linguistik antara perawat dan pasien dapat menyebabkan diskriminasi yang membahayakan perawatan, oleh karena itu, peneliti mencoba untuk mencapai tujuan yang mengembangkan kompetensi pragmatis siswa menggunakan simulati low fidelty dengan simulasi kuasi eksperimental dengan desain kelompok. Data diambil dari ucapan siswa yang diisi oleh penilai, dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kompetensi pragmatis siswa dikembangkan dilihat dari peningkatan nilai berbicara siswa, (2) permintaan maaf adalah jenis tindak tutur yang paling meningkat, (3) Konten Bahasa Inggris adalah aspek peningkatan kompetensi pragmatis yang paling meningkat, (4) instruksi pengajaran eksplisit memberikan peningkatan paling signifikan.Miscommunication can take place due to the inability of speakers to express their intention clearly. Therefore, the current study aspired to develop pragmatic competence in teaching English to the nursing students to help them overcome some of the language difficulties when they communicate with other health practitioners/patients in the international area. Empirical evidence reveals that linguistic barriers between nurses and patients can lead to discrimination that compromises care, therefore, the researcher tries to reach the objective which is developing student’s pragmatic competence using low fidelity simulation with quasi experimental group design. The data, taken from student’s utterances filled out by the raters, analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The result reveals that (1)  student’s pragmatic competence was developed seen from the improvement of student’s speaking score, (2) asking for apology was type of speech act improved the most, (3) English Content was aspect of pragmatic competence improved the most, (4) explicit teaching instruction gave the most significant improvement.Keywords: Nursing students, pragmatic competence, , simulation, speech act.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui aspek membaca apakah yang paling dipengaruhi oleh pembelajaran strategi membaca secara eksplisit and persepsi siswa tentang strategi tersebut. Desain penelitian ini adalah desain kelompok control pre-test post –test dua kelas; eksperimen dan kontrol. Instrumen pada  penelitian ini berupa tes membaca dan kuesioner. Validitas instrumen diukur menggunakan validitas isi dan konstruk dan reliabilitas instrumen diukur menggunakan iteman. Subjek penelitian yaitu 2 kelas XI di SMA. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa dari 5 aspek membaca, tertinggi adalah aspek menentukan ide pokok dan terendah aspek memahami kosakata. Akhirnya, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran strategi membaca secara eksplisit dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca siswa.This research was conducted to find out which aspect of reading comprehension was influenced most by explicit reading strategy instruction and to know the students’ perception about it. The design of this research was pre-test post-test control group design with two classes; experimental and control class. The instruments were reading test and questionnaire. This research used content and construct validity. To measure the reliability of the instrument, iteman was used. The subjects were two classes of eleventh year students of senior high school. The results of the data analysis showed that from five aspects of reading comprehension, determining main idea became the most improved aspect; in contrary understanding vocabulary became the least improved aspect. Then, concerning students’ perception towards explicit reading strategy instruction, the result showed that most of students perceived positively that explicit reading strategy instruction could improve their reading comprehension. Finally, it could be concluded that explicit reading strategies could affect the students’ reading comprehension.Keywords: Explicit reading strategies, implicit reading strategies, reading comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana rangkaian gambar paling baik diimplementasikan dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan tulisan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dan untuk menggambarkan masalah yang dihadapi selama proses pembelajaran menggunakan seri gambar di kelas. Data dikumpulkan dengan mengamati proses belajar mengajar selama pelaksanaan tindakan, mewawancarai siswa dan guru bahasa Inggris dan dan melakukan diskusi dengan guru bahasa Inggris sebagai kolaborator. Hasil dari dua siklus menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan seri gambar efektif untuk meningkatkan proses belajar mengajar dan kemampuan siswa untuk menulis teks naratif. Serial gambar sangat berguna dalam mengarahkan siswa untuk menulis di organisasi yang benar, menghasilkan ide-ide siswa dan memperkaya kosa kata siswa.This research is aimed to describe how picture series are best implemented in the English teaching and learning process to enhance students’ writing in learning English and to describe the problems encountered during the process of learning using picture series in the class. The data were collected by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the action, interviewing the students and the English teacher and and conducting discussions with the English teacher as collaborator. The result of the two cycles showed that the use of picture series was effective to improve the teaching learning process and the students’ ability to write narrative texts. Picture series were really useful in terms of directing students to write in the correct organisation, generate students’ ideas and enrich students’ vocabulary.Keyword : Picture series, teaching writing, writing.
