Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether there is significant correlation between students’ frequency of listening English songs. The research was conducted at SMPN 3 Bandar Lampung. This is quantitative research using  ex post pasto design. The data were taken from the questionnaire and the test was given to the VIII D class. The sample was chosen randomly through lottery. There are two kinds of tests, i.e.  the questionnaire of students’ listening frequency that consists of thirty questions and vocabulary test that consists of thirty questions of multiple choice. The data were analyzed by using the statistical formula of Pearson Product Moment. The result of the this research, rvalue  (0.738) was higher than rtable (0.463). It means that there is correlation and H1is accepted. It can be concluded that there is  significant correlation between the students’ frequency of listening English song and their vocabulary achievement. Most of the students who have good frequency of listening English song tended to have good score in vocabulary test too. It can be concluded that  students’ frequency of listening English song influence their vocabulary achivement.Key words: achivement, frequency, listening, song, vocabulary.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peningkatan dari kemamupan mendengar siswa setelah diajar menggunakan tekhnik pendikitian gambar. Penelitian ini adalah quantitave desain dengan satu kelompok pre-test dan post-test. Populasi dari penelitan ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP N 1 Bukit Kemuning yang terdiri dari VII-I sampai VII-6, Dengan 34 siswa dari setiap kelas. Data dalam penelitian ini di analisis dengan menggunakan rumus t-test. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang siknifikan dari kemampuan mendengarkan siswa dari belum mendapatkan perlakuan sampai setelah mendapat perlakuan dari pendektean gambar. Jumlah keseluruhan dari pre-test siswa adalah 1970 dan post-test siswa 2380. Rata-rata dari nilai pre-test adalah 57.92 dan post-test 72.12 atau meningkat sekitar 14.18%. Itu membuktikan bahwa nilai siswa meningkat secara siknifikan  karna P0.05 (p=0.000). The objective of the research is to find out whether there is the improvement of students’ listening ability after being taught by picture dictations technique. This research was quantitative research which has one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Bukit kemuning that consists of six classes, VII-1 until VII-6, and each of class consists of 32-36 students. The sample of this research was VII-3 which is selected by simply lottery drawing. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula.The result of the research showed that there is a significant difference of students’ listening achievement before and after being taught through picture dictations technique. The total score of pre-test was 1970 and post-test was 2380. The increase was 410. The mean score of pre-test was 57.92 and post-test was 72.12 or increased about 14.18%. It proved that the students’ scores increase significantly because p0.05 (p=0.000). Keywords: increasing, listening ability, picture dictation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi hubungan antara perilaku siswa dengan kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris serta menemukan jenis dari perilaku motivasi yang memberikan pengaruh terbesar terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif. Subyek dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 40 siswa pada tahun ke dua di SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah kuenioner dan transactional English speaking test. Disain penelitian adalah ex post facto design. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai korelasi antara kedua variable adalah 0.65 dan nilai pengaruhnya adalah 0.421. Lebih jauh, ditemukan data bahwa intensitas berdampak 20.9%, perhatian berdampak 30.5%, dan intensitas berdampak 18.2% terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa. Berdasarkan pada hasil, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan antara perilaku motivasi siswa dan kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris mereka serta perhatian memberikan dampak terbesar.The objectives of this research are to investigate the relationship between students motivational behavior and their English speaking proficiency and to find the kinds of motivational behavior that gives most influence to the students speaking proficiency. This is quantitative research. The subject consists of forty students of second grade at SMAN 1 Pringsewu. The data collecting technique used were questionnaire and transactional English speaking test. The design that was used was ex post facto design. The result of this research showed that the coefficient correlation was 0.650 and the coefficient influences value of X toward Y was 0.421. Furthermore, it was found that intensity gave 20.9%, attention gave 30.6%, and intensity gave 18.2% contribution to the students speaking proficiency. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is relationship between students motivational behavior and their English speaking proficiency and attention gives most influence.Keywords: motivational behavior, english speaking proficiency, relationship.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan apakah role play dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dan untuk mengetahui aspek berbicara yang paling meningkat dalam pengajaran menggunakan role play. Subjek terdiri dari 31 siswa di kelas XII IPA 2 di SMAN 6 Bandar Lampung. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa teknik ini dapat memperbaiki kemampuan berbicara siswa dan terlihat bahwa aspek kelancaran berbicara adalah yang paling meningkat di dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest posttest. Terdapat dua penilai untuk menilai pertunjukan siswa. Repeated measure t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data kuantitatif menggunakan SPSS(16.0). Hasil menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat adanya perbedaan kemampuan berbicara siswa secara signifikan pada level 0.05 karena t-ratio lebih besar darit-table (10.865 2.093), kemampuan berbicara siswa meningkat setelah diajarkan melalui teknik role play, dan aspek berbicara yang paling meningkat adalah aspek kelancaran berbicara.The aims of this research were to find out whether role play can improve the students` speaking ability, and to find out the aspect of speaking which improve the most after implementation of role play in teaching speaking. The subject consisted of 31 students in XII IPA 2 class of SMAN 6 Bandar Lampung. The result showed that this technique can improve students` speaking ability and the researcher could see that fluency was the aspect of speaking which improved the most. The research used one group pretest posttest design. There were two raters to judge the students` speaking performances. Repeated measure t-test was used to analyze the quantitative data and the hypothesis testing was computed by using SPSS(16.0). The result concluded that there was a significant difference on level 0.05 because t-ratio more than t-table (10.865 2.093), students` speaking ability improved after they were taught by using role play technique, and the aspect of speaking which improved the most is fluency.Keywords : improvement, role play, speaking, teaching speaking

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki (1) apakah terdapat perbedaan antara siswa introvert dan ekstovert dalam pencapaian kemampuan mendengarkan, dan (2) Tipe kepribadian siswa manakah yang memiliki pencapaian yang lebih baik dalam kemampuan mendengarkan. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas satu di SMA Kartikatama Metro yang terdiri dari 58 siswa. Penelitian ini termasuk kuantitatif bernama desain faktorial. Kuesioner diberikan untuk mengelompokkan siswa kedalam grup introvert dan ekstrovert. Mean dari nilai pretest pada grup introvert adalah 65.60, sedangkan pada grup ekstrovert 72.60. Lalu, mean dari nilai postest pada grup introvert adalah 64.20, sedangkan grup ekstrovert 69. Hasil penghitungan menunjukkan bahwa t-ratio lebih tinggi dari t-table dimana t-ratio 2.076 dan t-table 2.060. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis diterima. Kesimpulannya, terdapat perbedaan antara siswa introvert dan ekstrovert dalam pencapaian kemampuan mendengarkan dan siswa introvert memiliki pancapaian yang lebih baik dalam mendengarkan. This research aims to investigate (1) whether there is a difference between the introvert and extrovert students in listening achievement, and (2) which one of the two that has better achievement in listening. The population was the first grade students of SMA Kartikatama Metro consisting of 58 students. This research is quantitative namely factorial design. The questionnaire was given to classify the students into introvert and extrovert group. The mean of the pretest of the introvert group was 65.60, while the extrovert was 72.60. Then, the mean of postest of introvert group was 64.20, while the extrovert was 69. The result showed that t-ratio was higher than the t-table where the t-ratio was 2.076 and the t-table was 2.060. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, there is a difference between the introvert and extrovert students personality in listening achievement and the introvert students have better achievement in listening.                                                                     Keywords: extrovert, introvert, listening, listening achievement

Abstract

There are two objectives of this research; (1) to know whether there is significant difference of students’ pronunciation achievement between taught through English song and through poetry (2) to see which one of the techniques is more effective for teaching pronunciation. This research was conducted at the first year of SMP Xaverius Kotabumi, VII A as an experimental class and VII B as a control class. This was quantitative research. Firstly it is found that the means of the posttest in Experimental Class was 72.75 and the mean of posttest in Control Class is 69.87 with the mean difference is 2.88 and p is lower than 0.05 (0.0230.05). It indicated that we should reject Ho and accept H1 because there is a significant difference of pronunciation achievement between students taught through English song and poetry. Secondly, the highest score of pretest in experimental class is 72.50 and the highest posttest is 82.50, and the gain is 10.00. Compared with the result in control class, the highest score of pretest is 75 and the posttest is 81.00, and the gain is 6.00. It can be concluded that English song technique is more effective in teaching pronunciation than poetry.Keywords: English song, poetry, pronunciation achievement
