Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the problem occurred in students’ writing when using picture series technique in learning recount text. This research was a qualitative research. The subjects of this research were 36 students of SMAN 10 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2019/2020 at the second semester. Interview, analysing students’ worksheets and observation sheet were the instrument that used to collect the data. Before taking the data, the students had already been taught by picture series technique as a treatment. Furthermore, there is statistically significant improvement of students’ writing achievement on recount text written by the students after they were taught through picture series technique. After that, interview was done, as one of the instrument, in order to find out the result of this research. The result shows that one of the most common problems is the students still confused with the use of past tense and past continuous tense and lack of vocabulary on the students’ worksheets. Based on the analysis of the students worksheets it was found that some of the students still use English-Indonesian languange. In addition, it was found that the problems that the students made in their writing recount text worksheets are classified into four aspect of writing, namely organization, content, grammar, and vocabulary. Keywords: writing, problem, recount text, picture series technique.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan apakah ada perbedaan pada kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajarkan menggunakan teknik fishbowl. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sasaran penelitian sebanyak 38 siswa pada kelas delapan SMP N 2 Jati Agung, Lampung Selatan. Test berbicara digunakan untuk pengambilan data. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pencapaian kemampuan berbicara siswa sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan teknik fishbowl dengan tingkat signifikansi p0.05 (p=.000). Hal ini menandakan bahwa teknik fishbowl dapat membantu siswa untuk lebih percaya diri dalam berbicara bahasa inggris.The aim of this study was to find out whether there was significant difference on students speaking ability after the students were taught through fishbowl technique. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 38 students of the second grade in SMP N 2 Jati Agung, South Lampung. The speaking test was used to collect the data. The result showed that there was a statistically significant difference of the students speaking ability before and after the implementation of fishbowl technique with the significant level p0.05 (p=.000). This suggests that teaching speaking through fishbowl technique facilitates the students to speak English in the class and to be more confident.Keywords: fishbowl technique, speaking ability, teaching speaking.

Abstract

Tujuan Penelitian ini 1) menentukan adanya kenaikan signifikan pada prestasi siswa; 2) menyelidiki topik paling menarik; dan 3) menyelidiki masalah yang dihadapi siswa. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas satu SMAN 1 Natar. Kelas X-2 sebagai kelas penelitian dan X-1 sebagai kelas percobaan. Penelitian ini menerapkan one way repeated measures anova dan t-test. Peningkatan nilai pretest dan postest adalah 29.56. Hasil t-test menunjukkan t-ratio lebih tinggi dibandingkan t-table (39.1342.042) dengan tahap signifikan p0.05 dan signifikan 2-tailed p=0.000. Dapat dikatakan bahwa clustering technique layak untuk meningkatkan prestasi kosa kata siswa. The objectives of this research are 1) to determine whether there is significant increase on students’ vocabulary achievement; 2) to investigate the most interesting topic; and 3) to investigate the problems faced by the students. The subject of the research was the first grade students of SMAN 1 Natar. Class X-2 was chosen as the experimental and class X-1 as the try out class. T-test and One way repeated measures anova were applied in this research. The increase between pretest and postest is 29.56. The result of t-test shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (39.1342.042) with the level of significant is p 0.05 and significant two-tail is p=0.000. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada i) peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah penerapan media video, ii) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran menggunakan video. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa tingkat kedua SMA. Pre-tes dan pos-tes dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian berbicara siswa setelah penerapan media video dangan tingkat signifikan 0.00. Ini menunjukan bahwa media video dapat membantu siswa menigkatkan pencapaian berbicara mereka. Mayoritas siswa juga memberikan respon yang positif terhadap pembelajaran berbicara melalui video.  This research was aimed at finding out whether there i) was statistically significant improvement of students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of media of video,ii) the students’ responseson learning speaking through video. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 30 students of the second year of SMA. Speaking tests in the forms of the pre-test and the post-test were employed to collect the data. The results showed that there was statistically significant improvement of the students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of video with the significant level 0.00. This indicates that media of video help students improve their speaking achievement. The majority of students also showed that they gave positive responses on the process of teaching speaking through video. Keywords: improving, speaking, video.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara harga diri pelajar dengan kemampuan menulis bahasa Inggris mereka. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain Ex-post facto. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 28 murid kelas XI IPS 4 SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Kuisioner harga diri, dan tes menulis digunakan untuk mendapatkan data dalam penelitian ini. Kedua data tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Hasil dari data analisis menunjukan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan secara statistic antara harga diri murid dengan kemampuan menulis mereka pada tingkat signifikansi 0.01. Ini menunjukan bahwa harga diri mempengaruhi proses dan hasil belajar murid yang mempelajari Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing.This study aimed at investigating the correlation between students self-esteem and their writing ability. The design was ex-post facto design. The subject of this research were 28 students of class XI IPS 4 of SMAN 1 Pringsewu. Self-esteem questionnaire and writing test were used to collect the data. The scores of the two tests were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result showed that there was a statistically significant correlation between students self-esteem and their writing ability with the significant level 0.01. It indicates that students self-esteem influences EFL students learning process and outcomes.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan dari kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa, aspek membaca manakah yang paling meningkat, dan masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam pembelajaran pemahaman membaca menggunakan picture series. Sasaran penelitian ini mencakup 35 siswa kelas XI-H di SMAN 1 Kota Agung Tahun Akademik 2018/2019. Data penelitian berupa nilai yang dianalisis menggunakan t-test dengan derajat signifikan p0.05. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan tes membaca berbentuk pilihan jamak dengan empat alternative jawaban. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan dari pencapaian pemahaman membaca siswa setelah diajar menggunakan picture series. Aspek membaca yang paling meningkat adalah informasi spesifik. Masalah yang dihadapi siswa dalam pembelajaran pemahaman membaca menggunakan picture series adalah kecepatan dalam membaca, membuat simpulan, dan pemahaman kosa-kata.The aims of this research were to find out whether there was significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension ability, which aspect of reading improved the most, and the students’ obstacles in learning reading comprehension through picture series. The subjects of the research were 35 students of class XI-H at SMAN 1 Kota Agung in academic year 2018/2019. The data in form of scores were analyzed by using t-test with the significant level p0.05. This research was quantitative and qualitative research. The data were collected through reading test in form of multiple choices with four alternative answers. The result of the research showed that there was a significant improvement of the students’ reading comprehension achievement after being taught through picture series. The aspect of reading that improved the most was specific information. The obstacles faced by the students in learning reading through picture series were speed in reading, making inference, and understanding difficult words in vocabulary. Key words: reading comprehension, narrative text, picture series.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan berbicara siswa sebelum dan sesudah penerapan metode Audio-lingual dan juga untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap metode tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 1 Gadingrejo Pringsewu tahun ajaran 2018/2019 dengan total sample 32 siswa kelas dua. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes kemampuan berbicara dalam bentuk dialog dan juga wawancara. Untuk menganalisis data kuantitatif, peneliti menggunakan T-Test, sedangkan untuk data kualitatif peneliti menerapkan analisis deskripsi. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan yang terjadi terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah pengimplementasian metode Audio-lingual. Para murid juga setuju bahwa metode ini adalah metode yang mudah untuk diikuti yang membuat mereka menikmati dan memahami pelajaran dengan mudah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Audio-lingual memberikan efek positif terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa.The aims of this research were to find out an improvement of students’ speaking ability after the implementation of Audio-lingual Method and to find out their perceptions toward the method. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Gadingrejo Pringsewu in academic year 2018/2019 with a total sample of 32 second grade students. The data were collected by using a speaking test in the form of dialogue and interviews. To analyse the quantitative data, a T-Test was run while a descriptive analysis was applied to the qualitative data. The results showed that there was improvement of students’ speaking ability after the implementation of Audio-lingual Method. The students also agreed that this method was easy to follow that they enjoyed and understood the lesson more easily. It can be inferred that Audio-lingual Method makes a positive impact to students’ speaking ability.Keywords: Audio-lingual Method, teaching speaking, students’ perceptions

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam pembelajaran teks recount dengan menggunakan picture series dan mengetahui aspek kemampuan berbicara siswa yang paling meningkat setelah mereka diajar menggunakan picture series. Penelitian ini ialah penelitian kuantitatif. Desain yang digunakan ialah satu kelompok pretest posttest dengan 19 siswa kelas 10 IPA 2 SMA Kartikatama Metro sebagai subyek. Penelitian ini menemukan adanya peningkatan statistik kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam pembelajaran teks recount dilihat dari skor pretest ke skor posttest (33,15 menjadi 66) setelah menggunakan picture series. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa pemahaman adalah aspek yang paling meningkat dan pelafalan adalah aspek yang paling rendah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa mengajar teks recount dengan menggunakan picture series dapat diaplikasikan untuk siswa pada jenjang SMA untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.The aims of this study are to find out whether there was any significant improvement on students’ speaking skill after being taught by using picture series and to investigate which aspect of speaking skill improved the most and the least after being taught by using picture series. This research is quantitative research. The design used was one group pretest posttest with 19 students of 10 IPA 2 at SMA Kartikatama Metro in 2018/2019 academic year as the subject. The result showed there was statistically significant improvement of the students’ speaking skill in recount text viewed from pretest score to the posttest score (33.15 to 66) after they were taught by using picture series. The result also shows that comprehension was the aspect that improved the most and pronunciation improved the least. It can be concluded that teaching recount text by using picture series can be applied to students at SMA level to develop their speaking skill.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan Sentence Combining Practice pada prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa kelas X.4 yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik lotere. Instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes tertulis. Rumus Pearson Product Moment diaplikasikan untuk memperoleh keandalan tes. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa keandalan pre-test adalah 0,81 dikategorikan sebagai keandalan sangat tinggi, sementara keandalan post-tes adalah 0.70 dikategorikan kehandalan tinggi. Setelah menganalisis data, ditemukan bahwa nilai t observed adalah -9,575 dengan derajat kebebasan (df) = 34 pada tingkat signifikansi (a = 0,05). Ini berarti bahwa t observed lebih tinggi dari t (9,575 2,0301). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Sentence Combining Practice memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif.This study aimed to discover the effect of applying sentence Combining Practice on students achievement in writing descriptive text. The samples of the research were 35 students of class X.4 which were chosen by using lottery technique. The instrument for collecting the data was a writing test. Pearson Product Moment formula was applied to obtain the reliability of the test. Based on the calculation, it showed that the reliability of the pre-test was 0.81 categorized as very high reliability, meanwhile reliability of the post test was 0.70 categorized as high reliability. After analyzing the data, it was found that the value of t was -9.575 with the degree of freedom (df)=34 at the level of significance (a = 0.05). It meant that t observed was higher than t (9.575 2.0301). The result of this study showed that Sentence Combining Practice had a significant effect on students achievement in writing descriptive text.Keyword: writing, descriptive text, Sentence Combining Practice

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan pada penguasaan siswa dalam kosakata setelah penerapan flashcard sebagai media dalam pembelajaran kosakata. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ekperimen. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa kelas VIII A di SMPN 31 Bandar Lampung tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Tes kosakata dalam bentuk pilihan ganda dengan 40 soal dilakukan sebagai alat dalam pengumpulan data. Tes tersebut diberikan untuk melihat sejauh mana peningkatan siswa dalam pencapaian kosakata setelah diadakan perlakuan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan paired sample t-test dengan tingkat p0.05 menggunakan SPSS versi 16.0. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada pencapaian kosakata siswa. Hal ini menandakan bahwa pembelajaran kosakata menggunakan flashcard dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan pencapaian kosakata siswa. The aim of this study was to find out whether there is an improvement of the students’ vocabulary achievement after the implementation of flashcard as a media in teaching vocabulary. This research was an experimental study. The subjects of this research were 32 students of class VIII A at SMPN 31 Bandar Lampung in academic year of 2018/2019. The vocabulary test in form of multiple choice with 40 items was administered in collecting the data. The test was given to see how far the improvement of the students vocabulary achievement after the treatment. The data was analyzed by using paired sample t-test with the significant level p0.05 through SPSS version 16.0. The result reveals that there is an improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement. This suggests that teaching vocabulary using flashcard facilitates the students to improve their vocabulary achievement. Keywords: teaching vocabulary, flashcard, vocabulary achievement.
