Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference in the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught through crossword puzzles and also to find out which content of word that improves the most. The study was quantitative research which used one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was 337 students of the first-grade students of SMPN 14 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2018/2019. The subject is consisting of 155 male students and 182 female students. The average age of first-grade students is 12 years old. The sample of this research was taken randomly. The class of VII F is chosen as the sample of this research and the class consists of 31 students. A vocabulary test was used to collect the data. The result of students’ vocabulary test was measured in terms of noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. The data were analyzed by using the Repeated Measures t-test (SPSS) in which the significance was determined by p 0.05. The result of this research shows that the value of significance is 0.000. It means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected since the p score is lower than 0.05. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference of the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught through a crossword puzzle. Furthermore, the finding also shows that noun has the highest gain with a percentage of 35%. The mean of the noun in the pretest score is 22.1 and the mean of the noun in the posttest score is 26.4. From the explanation above, a crossword puzzle is recommended to be applied in teaching and learning vocabulary since the result shows a positive effect on students. Keywords: vocabulary, content words, crossword puzzle

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji apakah ada pengaruh langsung yang signifikan dari penggunaan cerita pendek pada peningkatan prestasi belajar membaca siswa dan minat siswa dalam membaca. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa tahun pertama SMAN 1 Punggur. kelompok dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan terdiri dari pre-test, post-test dan kuesioner. Data dianalisis menggunakan independent t-test kelompok melalui SPSS 16.0. Itu tvaluettabel (2.122 2.000) dan nilai tvalue ttabel (2. 742 2.000) dari p 0,05. Ini berarti bahwa H1 diterima bahwa ada efek langsung yang signifikan dari penggunaan cerita pendek pada peningkatan prestasi belajar membaca siswa dan pada peningkatan minat baca siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada tahun pertama prestasi membaca pemahaman siswa dan minat membaca siswa meningkat dengan menggunakan cerita pendek di SMAN 1 Punggur. The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is a significant direct effect of using short story on improving the students’ reading comprehension achievement and the students’ interest in reading. The population of this research was the first grade of SMAN 1 Punggur. The group was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The data collection techniques used were the pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using independent group t-test through SPSS 16.0. That tvaluettable (2.122 2.000) and that tvaluettable (2. 742 2.000) than p 0.05 it means that H1 is accepted that there is a significant direct effect of using short story on improving the students’ reading comprehension achievement and students’ reading interest. It can be concluded that on the first year students’ reading comprehension achievement and interest in reading students improved by using short stories at SMAN 1 Punggur. Key words: short story, interest in reading, reading comprehension

Abstract

Abstract.The objectives of this research is to find out whether there is any significant difference of students’ reading comprehension achievement between students with extrovert and introvert personality. The population of the research was the students of the first grade of SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2019/2020 totally 287 students. The sample of this research was X MIA 2 consisting of 35 students.The result showed that there was difference between the mean score of extrovert students (78.2) and that introvert students (72.5). The researcher used 0.05 significant level in SPSS 16 to do the calculation. The result showed that the Sig. (2 - tailed) is 0.001 0.05. Due to the value of Sig. (2 tailed) is lower than 0.05, it means there is a significant difference between introvert students’ reading comprehension ability and extrovert students. Based on the result of the research, it is proved that the extrovert students have better result than introvert one in reading comprehension test. So, from this statement the researcher’s hypothesis (Hi) is accepted.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi: validitas, keandalan, tingkat kesulitan, daya beda, kualitas pilihan di SMA Negeri 1 Purbolinggo di tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Peneliti meneliti ujian akhir semester yang berjumlah 35 soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa validitas konstruknya valid, validitas isinya valid, dan validitas mukanya tidak valid. Keandalan (alpha) adalah 0.448. Tingkat kesulitan terdiri dari 11 item (30%) diterima, 10 item (30%) perlu diperbaiki, 14 item (40%) perlu dibuang. Daya beda terdiri dari 11 item (31.4%) diterima, 18 item (51.5%) perlu dibuang, dan 6 item (17.1%) perlu dicek. Kualitas pilihan adalah 26 pilihan (15%) diterima, 89 pilihan (85%) perlu diperbaiki dan perlu dibuang. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kualitas soal tersebut sedang.The objectives of this research are to identify: the validity, the reliability, the level of difficulty, the discriminating power, the quality of the alternatives, of the final semester test at the second year of SMA Negeri 1 Purbolinggo in 2013/2014 academic year. The researcher investigated the final semester test consisting of 35 items. It was found that that the construct validity is valid, the content validity is valid, but the face validity is not valid. The reliability is 0.448. The level of difficulty consists of 11 items (30%) acceptable, 10 items (30%) need revising, and 14 items (40%) need dropping. The discriminating power consists of 11 items (31.4%) acceptable, 18 items (51.5%) need revising, and 6 items (17.1%) need dropping. The quality of the alternatives is 26 options (15%) acceptable, 89 options (85%) need revising and need dropping. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah ada kemajuan signifikan dari kemampuan berbicara siswa yang diajarkan dengan  storytelling. Data diperoleh dari pre-test dan post-test. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Repeated T-Test. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan secara statistik pada pencapaian pemahaman berbicara siswa dengan tingkat signifikan 0.00 (0.05). Hal menunjukan bahwa storytelling membantu memudahkan siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. This research was aimed to find out whether there is statistically significant improvement of the students’ speaking ability after the students were  taught through storytelling. The data were obtained from the pre-test and the post-test. The data were analyzed by using repeated T-test through SPSS. The result showed that there was statistically significant improvement of the students speaking ability with the significant level of 0.00 (0.05). This indicates that storytelling facilitates the students to improve their speaking achievement. Key words: storytelling technique, teaching speaking, narrative text.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi apakah ada efek signifikan dari penerapan choral reading pada pembelajaran pelafalan konsonan Bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini, desain yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan one group pretest posttest. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII E di SMPN 1 Raman Utara tahun ajaran 2013-2014. Peneliti menggunakan tes pelafalan pada pretes dan postes dalam bentuk kata tunggal untuk sepuluh konsonan Bahasa Inggris. Analisis data menggunakan t-test untuk mengukur tingkat signifikansi antara pretes dan postes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretes adalah 11.15 dan pada postes 15.5, di mana peningkatannya adalah sebesar 4.35. Selain itu, dari hasil perbandingan antara pretes dan postes mencapai p=0.00 serta t-hasil 8.065 lebih besar dari t-tabel 2.093. Dari hasil tersebut dapat dikatakan bahwa teknik choral reading membawa efek yang signifikan pada pelafalan konsonan Bahasa Inggris siswa.The objective of the research was to find out whether choral reading technique brought a significant effect on students’ English consonant pronunciation. This research used quantitative design with one group pretest posttest design. The subject of the research was students of VIII E class as the second year students of SMPN 1 Raman Utara in academic year 2013-2014. The researcher used pronunciation test in form of isolated words for ten English consonants. The data was analyzed by utilizing t-test to prove the significance between pretest and posttest. The result showed that the mean score of students pronunciation in pretest as many as 11.15 while in posttest as many as 15.5 where the increase as many as 4.35. In addition, the value of p=0.00 also the t-value 8.065 was higher than t-table 2.093. From the result of data analysis, it can be stated that choral reading technique gives a significant effect on students’ English consonants pronunciation.Keywords: choral reading, effect, english consonant, pronunciation.

Abstract

This research was aimed to compare the two language teaching techniques of writing, that is Roundtable and STAD techniques, and  to investigate the student’s appraisal after being taught through Roundtable technique, and to know the student’s appraisal after being taught through STAD technique. This research was conducted at the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Pringsewu in academic year 2019/2020 using two groups pretest posttest design. The data were collected using tests and questionnaire then analyzed using independent samples t-test and through descriptive analysis in SPSS ver. 20. The results show that: first, there is no significant difference of students’ writing achievement on descriptive text. Second, Roundtable technique helped students to learn writing of descriptive text through the activities, the material, and the teacher’s explanation during the learning process since this technique was well implemented regarding to its procedures. Third, STAD technique is effective to help students to write descriptive text through the teacher’s explanation, the activities, and the material in learning process. Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there was significant improvement of students’ procedure text writing after the implementation of video as media and to investigate students’ perception with regard to interest, challenge, choice and enjoyment of the implementation of video as media in language learning. This research was conducted through quantitative and qualitative approach. A total of 29 eighth graders of SMPN 8 Bandarlampung took part in the current study. The instruments used in this research were writing test (pre- and post-test) and questionnaire. The resultshowed that students’ average score in the pre-test was 53.93 and in the post-test was 59.13, the gain score was 5.20. The result of the Paired Sample t-test confirmed the hypothesis that there was significant improvement in students’ procedure text writing, p0.05, p = .000. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menginvestigasi apakah ada perbedaan pemahaman siswa yang diajar menggunakan teks literary dan non-literary melalui pendekatan membaca critis. (2) menemukan teks manakah yang paling effektif untuk memahami bacaan. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan studi kuantitatif. Dua kelas dijadikan sampel, yaitu kelas experimen satu menggunakan teks literary dan kelas experimen dua menggunakan teks non-literary. Terdapat dua instrument, yaitu tes reading dan interview. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan tingkat pemahaman siswa yang diajar menggunakan teks literary dan non-literary melalui pendekatan membaca kritis. kemudian, teks literary lebih effektif dari non-literary untuk memahami bacaan. Hasil tes hipotesis menunjukan bahwa T-hitung lebih tinggi dari T-tabel (4.402 2.002). Jadi disimpulkan bahwa H0 ditolak dan menunjukan bahwa teks literary lebih baik dari non-literary untuk meningkatkan membaca kritis siswa.This study aimed at (1) investigating whether there is a significant difference between the students reading comprehension achievement using literary text and non-literary text through critical reading approach. (2) finding which of the two materials that is more effective in reading comprehension. To achieve this goal, the researcher carried out quantitative study. Two classes have been taken: experimental class one using literary text and experimental class two using non-literary text. There were two instruments used in this research: reading test and interview. The results of data analysis showed there was a significant difference of between the students reading achievement taught by literary text and those taught by non-literary text through critical reading approach. Then, literary text was more effective than non-literary text. Hypothesis test showed that T-value was higher than T-table (4.402 2,002). It can be concluded null-hypothesis is rejected. It can be inferred that literary text is better than non-literary text for encouraging students critical reading.Keywords: critical reading approach, literary text, non-literary text, reading comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti i) apakah ada peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa sebelum dan setelah penerapan strategi TSTS dan ii) respon siswa terhadap penggunaan strategi TSTS. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 33 siswa tingkat kedua SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. Tes membaca dan kuesioner digunakan sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Paired Sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada kemampuan membaca siswa dengan tinggat signifikansi 0.05. Hasil dari kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa siswa memberikan respon yang positif tentang penggunaan strategi TSTS. Hal ini menandakan bahwa strategi TSTS dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objectives of this research were to find out i) whether there was a statistically significant difference of students reading comprehension achievement before and after the students were taught through TSTS strategy and ii) the students responses of the implementation of TSTS strategy. The approach of the research was quantitative and qualitative. The subjects were 33 students of the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. The reading tests and questionnaire were used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test. The result showed that there was a statically significant difference of students reading comprehension with the significant level 0.05. Furthermore, the students positively responded the implementation of TSTS strategy. This suggests that TSTS strategy facilitates the students to improve their achievement in reading comprehension.Keywords: reading, reading comprehension, two stay two stray (TSTS) strategy
