Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive impairment of renal function and irreversible. The kidneys fail to maintain metabolism and fluid and electrolyte balance, causing uremia. This disease is a common problem in old cats and dogs that not detected by the owners up to 75 % of kidney function is damaged. Clinical signs vary as polyuria, polidipsi, anorexia, vomiting, weight loss, pale mucous membranes, mouth ulceration, halitosis and acute blindness. Chronic renal failure is not curable so that the necessary medication management and proper diet in orderto improve the quality of life and prolong the life of the animal.

Abstract

Albumin consists of 50% of the total plasma protein and it is very important protein in the animal's body. Hypoalbuminemia can occurs due to various conditions, such as loss of protein nephropathy, loss of enteropathic proteins, chronic and acute diarrhea or heavy bleeding as well as malnutrition and malabsorption conditions. This study aims to determine the effect of  human serum albumin  20% infusion to increase albumin blood level in hypoalbuminemia dogs. Animals used in this study were 5 dogs whose results showed the levels of albumin below normal limits or hypoalbuminemia. Dogs with hypoalbuminemia will be infused with human serum albumin (HSA) 20% through intravenous for ± 4 hours. Then, these dogs blood will be drawn days after infusion to screen for albumin levels. The results obtained in the form of examination data of albumin blood levels in the blood before and after infusion will be analyzed with paired T-test. The results showed an increase of albumin level significantly from an average of 1.98 ± 0.356 to 2.28 ± 0.257(P <0.05). This study shows the presence of human albumin serum through intravenous infusion was able to increase albumin levels in dogs with hypoalbuminemia.

Abstract

ABSTRACTMolasses is a by-product or end product of sugar cane (Saccharum officcinarum L.) or sugar-beet (Beta vulgaris L. var. Conditiva) resulting from the manufacture of raw or refined sugar and consisting of structural sugars, hemicelluloses and minerals. It is mainly used to improve appetite of animals or add extra energy when prices of molasses are lower than that of other energy sources. Molasses can be a key ingredient for cost effective management of feeds and pastures. Supplementing poor quality feeds with molasses will increase feed intake and improve palatability. However, molasses can be toxic if fed at ad libitum or free choice, therefore, it is recommended that molasses should be supplemented in a restrictive form. These molasses poisoning papers and the negative impacts arose from long-standing studies because the poisoning is now rare. However, although this time is rare but did not close the possibility will appear again, Especially if given in an uncontrolled amount. Thus, this paper aims to remind users of molasses in the livestock industry to be wiser in their use. Key words: Key words: molasses, sugar cane, palatability, toxic

Abstract

Background: Selenium (Se) is an element commonly found in nature. Selenium is found in the soil and is absorbed by plants at different levels depending on plant species, fertilizer use, and rainfall, while vitamin E is abundant in legume plants and fresh grass. Selenium and vitamin E are essential elements for ruminants and are needed for average growth and help prevent other health problems. The roles of these two elements are closely related because they can protect cells from the detrimental effects of oxidation, even though they have different mechanisms. Deficiency of one or both elements can cause white muscle disease, retained placenta, metritis, decreased immune function, and mastitis. However, research and field studies also show that Se and vitamin E can cause poisoning in ruminants. Reviews : This article will briefly review the impact of Se Vitamin E deficiency and toxicity on ruminants.
