Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Albumin consists of 50% of the total plasma protein and it is very important protein in the animal's body. Hypoalbuminemia can occurs due to various conditions, such as loss of protein nephropathy, loss of enteropathic proteins, chronic and acute diarrhea or heavy bleeding as well as malnutrition and malabsorption conditions. This study aims to determine the effect of  human serum albumin  20% infusion to increase albumin blood level in hypoalbuminemia dogs. Animals used in this study were 5 dogs whose results showed the levels of albumin below normal limits or hypoalbuminemia. Dogs with hypoalbuminemia will be infused with human serum albumin (HSA) 20% through intravenous for ± 4 hours. Then, these dogs blood will be drawn days after infusion to screen for albumin levels. The results obtained in the form of examination data of albumin blood levels in the blood before and after infusion will be analyzed with paired T-test. The results showed an increase of albumin level significantly from an average of 1.98 ± 0.356 to 2.28 ± 0.257(P <0.05). This study shows the presence of human albumin serum through intravenous infusion was able to increase albumin levels in dogs with hypoalbuminemia.

Abstract

Feline infectious peritonitis is a viral infection in cats with clinical signs of ascites occurring in the effusion form. Ascites are a common form of systemic state characterized by abdominal distention caused by fluid accumulation. A local cat aged 1year with a weight of 4 kg named Minmin came to Udayana University Animal Education Hospital with complaints of decreased appetite, weakness, difficulty defecation and abdominal cavity enlargement. On physical examination is known the presence of abdominal distension. For the edification of the diagnosis is carried out ultrasound examination, X-ray, and abdominocentesis. There is an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, hepatomegaly, and nephritis. Routine hematology and blood biochemical examinations are performed that indicate chronic inflammation and abnormalities in kidney function. Rivalta test results showed positive results of accumulated exudate characterized by jellyfish like formation. Therapy given in the form of diuretic administration furosemide 10 mg / ml intravenous injection with the amount of administration 0.45 ml (2 x daily), ornipural hepatoprotector subcutaneous injection with the amount of administration 2 ml (every 2 days), nephroprotektor ketosteril per oral with a total administration of 1/2 tablet (every 2 days), antibiotic cefotaxim sodium 1g/ml intravenous injection with a total administration of 1.3 ml (2 x daily), anti-inflammatory dexamethasone 5mg/ml subcutaneous injection with an amount of 0.4ml (2 x daily), and transfer factor 1 x 1 tablet for 7 days. The treatment provided gives good results against a decrease in the degree of abdominal distention.

Abstract

Demodicosis is the most common skin disease found in dogs, caused by the proliferation of Demodex sp. mites. Based on the distribution of the lesions, demodicosis is divided into local and generalized. This study aims to determine the efficacy of Afoxolaner against General Demodicosis in dogs. A 1.5 year old mixed-breed male dog weighing 7.8 kg came to the Internal Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, with anorexia, weakness, and hair loss in the facial area, around the ears, neck, limbs, sides, back and extremities. On physical examination found alopecia, erythema all over the body, crusts, pustules in the medial caudal limb. Dogs exhibit high levels of pruritus. Routine haematological examination showed that the dog had anemia and leucocytosis. Diagnosis based on microscopic examination of deep skin scraping is Demodicosis. The prognosis in this case is fausta. Case dogs were treated with Afoxolaner (NexGard®), Azithromycin Dihydrate (10mg/kgBB, PO, q24h) and Chlorpheniramine maleate (4mg/day, PO, q12h) for a week. Histopathological examination of the skin before drug administration revealed pieces of demodex in the hair follicles, furunculosis, inflammatory cell infiltration of the stratum spinosum and dermis layer, necrosis accompanied by haemorrhagic exudate, follicular dilatation, and peri folliculitis. Post-therapy, the results of histopathological examination showed good results, with no pieces of mites found, the size of the follicle returned to normal, and no inflammatory cell infiltration was seen in the peri follicle. On the 10th day it was seen that the dog's condition had improved, the results of the skin scraping showed a reduced number of mites in one field of view. Afoxolaner should be given once a month for three months to eliminate and prevent mite infection in dogs.
