Abstract

English Phonology is very difficult to study. Cause, there are many elements that have to master in studying it. Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students or different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of the subject. By applying Strategy that is hoped can progress the students’ achievement in learning English Phonology is the main points underlining in this study. The aims of this research are: (1) to know the students’ difficulties in learning Phonology, and (2) to know if there is effect of cooperative learning strategy on the students’ achievement in learning Phonology or not. Population is all members of well defined class of people, events or objects. the sample of the research are 57 students of Educational English Department 2017/2018. The students’ achievement in learning Phonology who taught by using cooperative learning strategy have higher score than the students’ achievement in learning Phonology who taught by using other strategy (conventional strategy). Event, the effect is not significant.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to examine whether (1) the DRTA Strategy can effect on students’ achievement in reading comprehension or not, (2) the achievement in reading comprehension of the students with extrovert learning style is higher than introvert learning style if they taught by DRTA strategy, (3) there is no interaction between DRTA strategy and Learning Styles on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. It was an experimental research with factorial design 2x2. The data were analyzed by using two-way ANOVA by using SPSS program. After the data had been calculated, it is found that (1) DRTA strategy has affect students’ achievement in reading comprehension (Sig. = 0.026<0.05), students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by DRTA strategy is (76.10). (2) the achievement in reading comprehension of the students with Extrovert learning style is higher than the students with Introvert learning style (83.64>73.80) and (3) there is no  interaction between teaching strategies and Learning Style if they combined on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension (Sig. = 0.658 > 0.05).Key Word:     DRTA Teaching Strategy; Learning Style; Students’ Achievement

Abstract

Abstract Sensory images strategy talks about experience, experience is significant aspect for background knowledge. So, sensory images strategy guides the students to represent of their experience in their memories. The Questioning Strategy is a way of forming questions as you read in order to deepen understanding and enjoyment of the text. The Questions have many deals with clarifying the meaning or a phrase or passage, exploring important themes, considering the author’s technique, or learning more about something you find that interesting. The second part of the Questioning Strategy is finding an answer, either on your own or with the help of a teacher or friend. The Aims of Study were to know Students’ Understanding to the text when taught with Sensory Images strategy and Students’ Understanding to the text when taught with Questioning strategy. To know differences the students’ ability in reading comprehension when taught with Sensory Images and Questioning strategies.

Abstract

Environmental protection is very necessary because the population of the earth is increasing every year. The Village Government is absolutely responsible for what has been done to the community to fulfill its duties, authorities and obligations as regulated in laws and regulations, including in terms of providing a good living environment. This study focuses on finding out how the role of the village government in controlling and managing the environment in Ulumahuam Village is. This study used qualitative research methods. The data collection process was carried out by observing and asking questions. The results show that the Ulumahuam Village government controls and manages the environment by strengthening community harmony through mutual cooperation activities. In addition, the village government also utilizes existing natural resources to be managed into tourist attractions so that it can move the economy of local residents. Keyword: The Role of the Village Government, Monitoring and Management, Environment.

Abstract

Several problems of speaking in SMAN 6 Medan attracted researchers to conduct the research as an effort to help the students in language learning. Researchers attempted to see the effectiveness of Pictionary game toward English speaking skill. This Pictionary game is a simple game and applicable for all levels of students. The main function of this game is building of creative thinking, increasing of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, developing student’s bravery in expression of the ideas and creating of responsibility and cooperative towards the students. Because of this advantage, many researchers conducted this game on language learning such as the effect of Pictionary game on vocabulary mastery and researchers decided to see whether Pictionary game is effective for student speaking skill. This study is conducted by using an experimental design. In collecting of the data, researcher took pre-test and post-test from experimental and control class and examined them to see whether Pictionary game is effective or not. After analyzing of the data using of three tests, researchers found that the students’ score in experimental group was higher than control group in post-test. The calculation showed tobserved was 2.07. The degree of the freedom was 70 (df= n1 + n2 – 2) that means (df= 36 + 36 – 2) at the significance level 0.05, thus the critical score was 1.97. It can be concluded ttable was 1.97. then, the calculation of students’ scores shown that tobserved > ttable that means (Ha) was accepted, and (H0) was rejected. It means there is significance effect of the students’ speaking skill after treated by Pictionary game.

Abstract

Tujuan dari program pengabdian masyarakat seperti yang ditawarkan oleh Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara adalah untuk meningkatkan minat belajar anak-anak di era digital, di mana teknologi memiliki dampak yang signifikan terhadap seberapa serius anak-anak dalam menempuh pendidikannya, baik secara positif maupun negatif. negatif. Selain itu, tujuan dari layanan ini adalah untuk membantu masyarakat memahami nilai pendidikan dan bagaimana hal itu dapat membantu pemerintah mendidik generasi muda tanah air. Selain itu, kami sosialisasikan di sekolah dengan mengajak siswa mengikuti bimbingan belajar gratis bersama siswa KKN, yang kami lakukan di posko kegiatan KKN, untuk mengkomunikasikan langsung kepada masyarakat sekitar nilai pendidikan untuk masa depan anak sehingga orang tua juga ikut serta mengarahkan, mengawasi, dan mendukung anak-anaknya dalam menempuh pendidikan di era digital saat ini.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan untuk memastikan dampak kompetensi pendidikan yang mungkin pada penggunaan teknologi masyarakat dan sumber daya manusia. Salah satu masyarakat Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan, Kecamatan Silangkitang Sumatera Utara, adalah Desa Ulumahuam. Proses penulisan menggunakan pendekatan tinjauan pustaka (library research). Diskusi mengarah pada kesimpulan bahwa teknologi pendidikan adalah proses yang canggih dan komprehensif untuk memeriksa dan menyelesaikan masalah dengan pembelajaran manusia dan akademik. Teknologi dalam pendidikan lebih dari sekedar perangkat keras. Ini terdiri dari tata letak dan pengaturan yang membuat pelajar tertarik. Teknologi juga dapat mencakup strategi atau pendekatan apa pun yang dapat diandalkan untuk mendorong pembelajaran, termasuk teknik pembelajaran kognitif dan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Keunggulan, peran, dan tujuan teknologi pendidikan antara lain mendukung produksi pengetahuan melalui alat, menyelidiki pengetahuan untuk mendukung siswa melalui informasi, mendukung pembelajaran berbasis berbicara melalui media sosial, dan mendukung siswa secara intelektual. Kualitas pendidikan dan sekolah dapat ditingkatkan melalui teknologi pendidikan. proses belajar mengajar dapat dibuat lebih efektif dan efisien. Penggunaan teknologi instruksional dapat memfasilitasi keberhasilan akademik.

Abstract

There are several ways to teach Psycholinguistics. Even though, there are many ways or theories in teaching and learning to increase students’ achievement in learning Psycholinguistics but not all of those theories and ways are successes. This research will find out the effective way to teach Psycholinguistics for Department of English Educational students of Faculty of Tarbiyah Science and Teacher Training of State Islamic University North Sumatra (UIN-SU) Medan. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of achievement. The aims of this research: to know the students’ difficulties in learning Psycholinguistics, to know how is the lecturer implement Students Centered Learning (SCL) Strategy in teaching learning process special for teaching Psycholinguistics, and to know if there significance effect of Students Centered Learning (SCL) Strategy on students’ achievement in learning Psycholinguistics or not. The subjects and objects of product trials on an expanded scale will be given to students of the English department study program FITK UIN North Sumatra Medan. The type of quantitative data, using a Likert scale questionnaire instrument was used to collect data. The validity test analysis technique uses the Aiken and Cronbach Alpha formulas for reliability. The research will produce articles published in reputable national or international journals and Intellectual Property Rights (HaKI), which are empirically proven to be valid, practical and effective.

Abstract

Anxiety about speaking English has received a lot of attention in recent years. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to describe the factors that caused students' language anxiety and their strategies for reducing anxiety in speaking English at class. Participants in this study were 5 students’ English department in the second semester. The methods used in this study were descriptive and qualitative. Data were obtained from interviews and observations. As a result, it shows that EFL students in English Department of UIN Sumatera Utara, they feel anxiety in speaking English. Fear of speaking English is due to a number of factors, both internal and external. The first factor was the type of the task, fear of making mistakes, the role of the language teacher, self-perception and the last is the limited exposure to English. Moreover, the finding of this study also revealed that there were some strategies they used to reduce anxiety. There is preparation before speaking English, positive thinking, and strategy they used was peer seeking.

Abstract

This literature review provides a comprehensive examination of English vowels, their definition, pedagogical approaches for teaching them, and the benefits of learning them. The analysis explores that there are front vowel, central vowel, and back vowel. This research identifies the effectiveness of explicit instruction, auditory training, and visual aids in improving learners' pronunciation and perception of English vowels. Understanding and mastering English vowels contribute to enhanced pronunciation, listening skills, speaking fluency, reading ability, and overall language acquisition. Furthermore, learning English vowels promotes cultural integration and facilitates cross-cultural communication. The findings from this review offer valuable insights for language educators in designing effective instructional strategies for teaching English vowels and empowering learners to excel in English-speaking environments.
