Abstract

Degraded land due to brick industry, piling material, and coal mining activities are widely covered the area of Kebon IX Village, Sungai Gelam Subdistrict, Muaro Jambi District. This service activity was aimed at encouraging collective action by the village community of Kebun IX to apply citronella cultivation and processing technology in order to rehabilitate their land as well as develop productive economic businesses as a substitute for their old businesses that were not environmentally friendly. The method used was the combination of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and collective action model in promotion strategy and technology adoption. Through counseling, training and demonstration plots, four types of integrated businesses, including cultivation, processing and utilization of citronella by-product, have been successfully developed in Kebon IX Village. Citronella plants at aged 6‒8 months produced leaves at a price of IDR 500/kg and after 3 months can be harvested again. One clump of citronella plants can produce 1.5 kg at the first harvest and increase to 2.0 kg after the next harvest. One hectare of land can contain 1000‒1500 clumps of citronella plants. Citronella plant soil costs IDR 250,000/L, the residue of the distillation can be used as animal feed (IDR 150/kg) or used as trichocompost (IDR 1,200/kg). Trichocompost is also needed as organic fertilizer for the continuity of citronella cultivation. The integration of citronella plants cultivation and processing industry has a positive impact on land reclamation efforts as well as to empower the community's economy.

Abstract

The density of mangrove cover is one of the factors that influence changes in shoreline both accretion and abrasion. This study aims to determine the effect of changes in density of mangrove cover on shoreline changes in 1989-2018 in the Coastal Province of Jambi. The method used is the interpretation of Landsat satellite images in 1989, 2000 and 2018 using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and overlaying images to see shoreline changes and DSAS (Digital Shoreline Analysis System) to calculate the area of change. The results showed that there had been a change in shoreline both accretion and abrasion in several locations that had different mangrove densities in the period 1989-2018. The results showed that accretion occured in 6 locations with an average change of Kota Sebrang 771 m, Tungkal Ilir 240.65 m, Kuala Betara 153.73 m, Mendahara 167.78 m, Kuala Jambi 169.35 m and Nipah 57.3 m, while abrasion occurs at 2 locations with an average change in Sabak Timur -41.8 m and Sadu -36.55 m. Where in the 6 locations that had accretion, mangrove density dominantly was in a close-densed and moderate state and only a few are in a low-densed condition. Meanwhile, the 2 locations that had abrasion were in a moderate state and have a low density mangrove forest.

Abstract

The research is aimed to provide recommendation on spatial planning of Hutan Desa Lubuk Beringin management. The research was conducted through direct observation, semi-structure interview, visual interpretation and literature review. Based on the interpretation result of Landsat image with acquisition year in 2014, the types of landuse existed over the areas were old jungle rubber, ecotourism potency and environmental services. The analyses for spatial planning of Hutan Desa Lubuk Beringin with the area of 2.602 ha divided by two zones, namely protection zones and utilization zones. The area of Protection zone covered 84% of total area that equal to 2.602 ha. This area has functions to protect the lower areas and to maintain ecological functions contributing the intangible benefits for people around the village forest. Utilization zone has area of 411 ha that equal to 16% of the total area which has been used for mixed garden or old jungle rubber by the villagers. Furthermore, the management of Lubuk Beringin village forest is ruled by the conservation commitment of village (KKD) and managed by the institution called village forest management group (KPHD) Ndendang Hulu Sako Batang Buat.

Abstract

Granting legal access to PT. REKI in ex. PT. The Asialog concession area in 2010 was marked by resistance accompanied by violence and claims by community groups (claimer). Conflict resolution with the Forestry Partnership approach resulted Forestry Partnership Recognition and Protection (Kulin KK) agreements for 79 heads of households who were members of 4 (four) groups. The question of this research is how the perceptions and participation of Kulin KK holders and the relationship between the two variables. The objectives of the study are to analyse the perceptions and participation and the relationship of its variables. This research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used the census method with many respondents and 75 holders of legal access to Kulin KK. Perception and participation analysis and categorisation use 3 (three) point Likert scale and the score interval equation. The analysis of the relationship between perception and participation variables uses the Spearman correlation analysis. The results showed that the public perception of the provisions of the Forestry Partnership scheme was in the high category of 96% and 4% in the medium category, while the level of community participation was in the high category of 36%, 24% medium and 40% low. Perception and participation are negatively related.

Abstract
