Abstract

AbstractChronic periodontitis is the most common periodontal disease occurs in people with prevalence of96.58% and usually occurs at the age of 35 years and over. The main cause of chronic periodontitis isaccumulation of plaque and bacteria. The most dominant bacteria in chronic periodontitis isPorphyromonas gingivalis. Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is a spice plant that is widely used bythe public, contain secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, and essential oilwhich is antibacterial. This study aim was to determined the ginger’s extract (Zingiber officinaleRoscoe) antibacterial potency against Porphyoromonas gingivalis with various concentrations are6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. Antibacterial potency which test done by placing a paper discsthat has been dipped in the test group with 5 concentration and the placed on the surface of the MHAmedium (Mueller Hilton Agar) which had been grown Porphyromonas gingivalis, and incubated for 24hours at a temperature of 37 0C in an anaerobic atmosphere. Furthermore, inhibition zones werecalculated using calipers. Data were analyzed by one way ANOVA test which showed that the extractof ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) can inhibit Porphyromonas gingivalis with probability (P0.05).Conclusion the extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) cold inhibit the growth ofPorphyromonas gingivalis at 6,25% concentration of extract with average of inhibition zone 10,6 mmthat categorized weak. Keywords: Ginger, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Chronic Periodontitis

Abstract

AbstractPeriodontal disease is one of the most common oral health problems. Adolescent is an importantperiod in periodontal status because suffered from periodontal disease is increasing. The number ofadolescent suffered from this disease is increasing and effected in periodontal status. There are severalmethods used in order to measure the severity of periodontal disease, one of the methods is CPITN.The purpose of this study was to identify the frequency of periodontal health on students of SMP 3Baiturrahman Banda Aceh who aged between 12-14. This is a cross sectional descriptive study. Thenumber of subject was 96 students. In detail, there were 33 subjects (34,3%) aged 12, 44 subjects(45,8%) aged 13 and 19 subjects (19,8%) aged 14. Data was collected through interview and clinicalexamination. The result of this study indicated that 26 subjects (27,1%) had a health periodontal tissue(score 0). On the other hand, 1 subject (1%) with bleeding on probing (score 1). Furthermore, 68subjects (70,9%) had both supragingiva/subgingiva calculus (score 2). Only 1 subject (1%) hadabsolute pocket 4-5 mm (score 3). No subject (0%) had absolute pocket ≥ 6 mm (score 4). Based onscore CPITN, the kind of proper and effective oral treatment for these subjects are home care, scalling, oral hygiene care and no indicated to complex therapy. It can be concluded that level of periodontalhealth on students of SMP 3 Baiturrahman Banda Aceh who aged between 12-14, 68 subjects (70,9%)had both supragingiva/subgingiva calculus (score 2) and it was the highest score. Keywords: adolescent, CPITN, periodontal status

Abstract

Chronic Periodontitis is one periodontal disease. The main cause of periodontitis chronic disease is bacteria which present in subgingival plaque, that called porphyromonas gingivalis. Chronic periodontitis treatment includes treatment to eliminate pathogenic bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis. Use of probiotics such as yoghurt can be used as s treatment to inhibited pathogenic bacteria because it contains lactic acid bacteria. In this study, uses yoghurt derived from cow’s milk. This study aims to know the inhibitory from probiotic drinks of yoghurt to Porphyromonas gingivalis in vitro. Cow’s milk yoghurt is made with adding lactic acid bacteria 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% concentration. In this research used an agar-well diffusion assay to see inhibited the drink probiotic yoghurt cow’s milk in Porphyromonas gingivalis. The result was analyzed with one way ANOVA. The result showed there are differences in the inhibition of Porphyromonas gingivalis zone after being exposed to probiotic cow’s milk yoghurt with concentration 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% (p0,05). Inhibition zone probiotic drinks of cow’s milk yoghurt against Porphyromonas gingivalis which made by beginning at probiotic cow’s milk  on the Porphyromonas gingivalis concentration 4% (14,6 mm) and 5% (19,2 mm), both includes as weak category and average according to Ahn classification. The conclusion of this study is probiotic cow’s milk yoghurt has inhibitory effect againts Porphyromonas gingivalis.Keyword: Chronic periodontitis, Porphyromonas gingivalis, probiotic, cow’s milk yoghurt.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) has been reported as the primary infectious agent in rootcanals. Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) is said to have the ability to prevent the development of E. faecalis. The purpose of this study was to measure the biomass index and viscosity of the ethanol extract ofMoringa (Moringa oleifera) leaves, which were affected by E. faecalis. This study used Moringa oleiferaand E. faecalis. The biomass index of Moringa oleifera extracts using the Biomass Assay method and theviscosity with the Ostwald Viscometer. The biomass index of M. oleifera affected by E. faecalis at aconcentration of 12.5% for 48 hours was better than other concentrations. CHX has a perfect biomassindex at 24 hours, while at 48 hours, the biomass index increases to close to 10%. Meanwhile, M. oleiferahas a high viscosity at a concentration of 12.5% (0.81 Cp). The results of the viscosity examination werein line with the biomass index with a positive correlation (0.92) and p0.05 between the M. oleiferaconcentrations between the two treatments. M. oleifera has very good biomass and viscosity index at aconcentration of 12.5%. Both are determinants of the development of E. faecalis under the influence of M.oleifera.KEYWORDS bomassa indek, viskositas, E. faecalis

Abstract

Sinusitis is an inflammation of nose and paranasal sinuses. Signs and symptoms that found in sinusitis patients are problem in sense of smell, facial pain, nasal obstruction, and discharge of mucopurulentnasal drip. Nasal obstruction tend to causes patient mouth breathing then patient having symptom ofxerostomia. In xerostomia patient which accompanied by decrease of salivary flow rate, theantimicrobial action of saliva will decrease, so the formation of plaque will increase. This study aimsto determine periodontal status of sinusitis patients. This research is a descriptive study with nonexperimental design. The method used to select the subject is purposive sampling, which the subjectsare sinusitis outpatients in Ear, Nose, Throat Polyclinic of Meuraxa Hospital. This research startedfrom August to October 2019 in Meuraxa Hospital, Banda Aceh. Research done by the examination ofOHIS, pocket periodontal depth, and clinical attachment loss. The results show that subjects with acutesinusitis are 24% and chronic sinusitis are 76%. Oral hygiene of sinusitis patients show 72% fair scoreand 28% poor score. Periodontal pocket depth under 4 mm in percentage of 100%. Clinical attachmentloss show 88% mild, 8% fair, and 4% severe. The conclusion of this study are no sinusitis patienthaving good oral hygiene, but the higher score is fair oral hygiene with percentage of 72%. Periodontalpocket depth in all subjects are under 4 mm. Mild clinical attachment loss is the greater with percentageof 88%.Keywords: Sinusitis, oral hygiene, periodontal pocket, clinical attachment loss
