Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this research is to know the effect of the application of organic matter and kinds ofwater used on the physical characteristic of Ultisol and growth of Rosella plant(Hibiscus sabdariffa L). The research was conducted at compost centre, the screen house, and atChemistry and Fertility Laboratory, Research and Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture,USU Medan from May until November 2012. The design used was randomized block design(RBD) which consits of 2 (two) factors, Factor 1: Organic Matter (M) with 4 types: M0 = control,M1 = Ultisol 90% + shell 5% + compost of dust 5% , M2 = Ultisol 90% + shell 5% + compost ofstubbles 5% , M3 = Ultisol 90% + shell 5% + compost of corn 5%. Factor 2: Kinds of water used(A) with 3 (three) levels: A0 = water, A1 = the iron of water, A2 = urine, and 2 (two) replication tomeet 24 experimental units. The result of this research showed that organic matter decreased bulkdensity, increased of growth plant but did not effect the content of soil water level and productionof Rosella plant, kind of water increased soil water level but did not effect descrease bulk density,growth and production of Rosella plant and interaction of both treatmets increased growth of plantas 3 MST but did not affect physical characteristic of Ultisol and production of Rosella plant.Keywords: chemical property of ultisol, organic matter, kind of water used, and productionof rosella plant

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the influence of endomycorrhizae on bioremediationheavy metals of Cd, Cu, and Pb. The research was conducted from April 2012 until February 2013used non factorial randomized block design with 5 replications and 5 treatments. Applications ofheavy metals treatments are: Control (non-application of endomycorrhizae and heavy metals), L0(application of endomycorrhizae and non-application of heavy metals), L1 (application ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 1,5 ppm, Cu 20 ppm, and Pb 60 ppm), L2 (application ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 2,25 ppm, Cu 25 ppm, and Pb 200 ppm), and L3 (applicationof endomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 3 ppm, Cu 30 ppm, and Pb 340 ppm). Heavy metals wereapplied 3 weeks before planted and endomycorrhizae was applied when planting. The plants keptuntil vegatative phase in the screen house.The result of this research showed that the application of endomycorrhizae decreased Cu and Pbavailablity in soil. In the plants, application of mycorrhizae decreased Pb uptake. Applications ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals increasing mycorrhizae infection rates, but has no effect toheavy metals uptake, shoot dry weights, root dry weights, and pH H2O soil. Heavy metalsavailability in soil only significant to Pb availability after heavy metals applications.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAn experimental research was done to measure the nutrient use efficiency (NUE) of Phosphorus (P)in Andisols and Ultisols. The research was conducted in Screenhouse and Research and TechnologyLaboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera from September 2012 until July2013. It was arranged in Non-factorial Randomized Block Design with 6 dosages of PhosphorusFertilizer (SP-36) in Andisols and Ultisols (0; 0,4; 0,8; 1,2; 1,6; and 2,0 grams of SP-36/plant). The intertreatments effects were analyzed using DMRT.The results showed thatRecovery Efficiency (RE) and Agronomic Efficiency (AE) in Ultisols are higher than in Andisols,meanwhile Physiological Efficiency (PE) in Andisols is higher. RE and AE were decreased as aresult of increasing dosage of SP-36 meanwhile PE was increased. The best treatment in Andisolsand Ultisols is 0,8 grams SP-36/plant. In Andisols, productivity of maize at that treatment is 109,23grams/plant (7,28 tons/Ha); RE (11,55%); PE (576,67 grams dry weight cob of maize /g P2O5);and AE (66,68 grams dry weight cob of maize /g P2O5). In Ultisols, productivity of maize at thattreatment is 67,30 grams/plant (4,48 tons/Ha); RE (15,16%); PE (589,29 grams dry weight cob ofmaize /g P2O5); and AE (88,94 grams dry weight cob of maize /g P2O5)Key words : Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE), phosphorus (P), andisols, and ultisols

Abstract

The demand for land growing up synergy with population growth become one of the driving factorsof land use change. Dairi regency is one of regencies in North Sumatra with an area of 192.780hectares that most of the land not used and not optimized by the resident in order to meet thedemand for land. This study was conducted on July 2013 through March 2014 using the surveymethod with the use of GPS equipment and Landsat TM 7. The results showed that land coverconditions that primary forest, secondary forest, cultivated land, residential and open land hasincreased while the paddy fields, wet land decreased. This is due to the social conditions of thepopulation, and an increasing number of residents in the area which led to the demand of land forsettlement and cultivation of the land will continue to rise.Keywords : land cover , land use , Dairi Regency and driving factor land changes

Abstract

This research purposed to evaluate the suitability of land for cultivation of robusta coffee in Dairiwith altitude at 400 - 1700 m above sea level . This research started from May 2013 to November2013. The research conducted by taking a sample soil based by method free survey grid with detailof survey level and then analyzed on the laboratory and land evaluation performed by the matchingmethod is based on plants needed with properties owned by land on any limiting factors. Theparameters observed in the field are soil depth, drainage, slope, the dangers of erosion, the dangersof flood, the rock surface and laboratory parameters analyzed include physical properties, textureand chemical properties of the soil pH, soil cation exchanges capacity, base saturation, C-organic,and soil salinity. The results showed that the actual land suitability classes for sample 1 is S2rc,nr,sample 2 is S3nr, sample 3 is S2oa,rc,nr,eh, sample 4 is S3nr,eh, sample 5 is S3nr, sample 6 is S3nr,sample 7 is Nrc, sample 8 is S3nr, sample 9 is S3tc,rc,nr, sample 10 is S3tc, sample 11 is S3nr,sample 12 is S3tc,oa,rc,nr, sample 13 is S3tc,nr, sample 14 is S3tc,rc, sample 15 is S3tc,nr,uh, andsample 16 is Nrc. Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of danger of erosion on land coffee plant ( Coffea Sp ) insome of the District Dairi . Coffee plants can grow in a variety of soil types and grows well ataltitude 800 sd 2000 m above sea level , the temperature is 15 sd 25oC , rainfall 1,750 mm peryear sd 3.000 and pH 5.5 up to 6.5 . Number of Production Smallholders 2758.85 tonnes ofRobusta and Arabica coffee 10088.50 tonnes . In 2006 amounted to 2,865 tons , an increase of18,168 tonnes (2008 ) , dropped to 2,060 tons (2009 ) , be 12 847 tonnes (2010 ). 19,000 hectaresof land used , used for Robusta coffee smallholders and 8,495 for Arabica coffee 10504.5hectaresKeyword : Coffee Plant, Soil Slope, Erosion potential.

Abstract

This research purposed to evaluate soil chemistry characteristic on coffee land in Mandailing NatalRegency and to know the relationship of soil chemistry characteristic to production which held oncoffee land in Mandailing Natal Regency, Research and Technology Laboratory Agriculture FacultyNorth Sumatra University and Soil Biology Laboratory Agriculture Faculty North Sumatra University.Data is obtained by survey system and data sample is gotten expressly (Purposive Random Sampling)with six parametres i.e. pH, Organic Carbon, Total Nitrogen, Available Phosphate, Cation ExchangeCapacity, and Base Saturation. Data is tested by using assumption classic test i.e. outlier test,normality, linearity, correlation analyze and quadratic regression. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of the land suitability class of irigation rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Bakaran Batu village Sei Bamban sub district Serdang Bedagai regency. Conducted in Bakaran Batu village Sei Bamban sub district Serdang Bedagai regency and Geographic Information Systems Laboratory and Laboratory for Research and Technology Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra Medan in April to August 2014. Conducted using a survey that refers to the level of the limiting factors of land characteristics. Field observation data and the data matched the results of laboratory analysis (matching) with the criteria of rice land suitability classe. The results showed that there are 2 Unit Land Map (ULM) In Bakaran Batu village Sei Bamban sub district Serdang Bedagai regency. Extensive wetland area of 286.02 ha ULM 1 and area of 318.03 ha ULM 2. The actual land suitability classes for rice crops in the ULM 1 is marginally suitable / S3 rc, nr whereas potential land suitability class is marginally suitable / S3 rc. The limiting factor is the soil texture is permanent so it cannot be repaired. The actual land suitability classes for rice in the ULM 2 is the marginally suitable / S3 nr whereas potential land suitability class is moderately suitable / S2 nr. The limiting factor is the C-Organic and soil base saturation can be improved by liming, organic matter, straw composting and fertilizer containing K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+ for example KCl, CaCO3, MgSO4.Keywords: land suitability evaluation, bakaran batu village, irigation rice

Abstract

Kopi merupakan salah satu komoditas pertanian yang mempunyai nilai ekonomi cukup tinggi. Daerah Mandailing Natal merupakan salah satu daerah penghasil kopi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi sifat biologi tanah antara lain C-organik, N-total, respirasi tanah dan total mikroorganisme tanah terhadap produksi kopi. Penelitian ini dilakukan metode survei. Sampel diambil dengan metode acak sengaja berdasarkan produksi dengan parameter yang diukur yaitu C-organik, N-total, respirasi tanah dan total mikroorganisme tanah. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis komponen utama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sifat biologi tanah terbagi atas dua faktor, yaitu faktor “Nitrogen dan Mikroorganisme” dan faktor “Bahan Organik”. Baik faktor “Nitrogen dan Mikroorganisme” maupun faktor “Bahan Organik” mempengaruhi produksi secara positif.Kata kunci : Sifat Biologi Tanah, Produksi Biji Kopi, Mandailing Natal

Abstract

Research in Dairi aims to determine the relationship between altitude and soil organic carbon content of the ability FAM infection through stages of field sampling and direct observation in the laboratory , conducted from December 2013 - January 2014. The object is the roots of coffee plants , given the pre- observation treatment by 10% KOH soaking , HCl 2 % soaking and in a solution of trypan blue soaking . Then do the calculation ability of mycorrhizal infection by comparing the number of infected root surface and the total of roots surface were observed . The results showed that the degree of mycorrhizal infection on the roots of coffee plants positively influenced by altitude and soil organic Carbon content.Keywords: Mycorrhizae, Coffee Plant, Altitude, Organic Carbon
