Abstract

Based on Survey of National Social Economic 2004 reportedby the Ministry of Health show the general prevalenceof malocclusion and temporo mandibulare junctionin Indonesia has reached 80. Malocclusion is a dentalocclusion shape that deviates from the normal, the deviationof which is crowdeed, caninus ectopik, disto-occlusion,mesio occlusion, crossbite and diastema. Physicalfactors such as tooth abnormalities, or malocclusionsadversely affect the aesthetic appearance, comfort inspeaking or chewing food would affect one’s motivation toperform orthodontic treatment. The results of a preliminarystudy conducted in SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul obtained223 students had cases of malocclusion and 125 studentsexpressed a desire to straighten teeth.The researchpurpose to determine the relationship of malocclusion withorthodontic treatment motivation in class X SMA N 1 SewonBantul in 2013.The kind of this research is observational with cross sectionaldata retrieval. The population in this study were studentsof class X SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul many as 223students. Method of sampling Quota sampling by meansof a population of 30 respondents. Influence variable ofmalocclusion and orthodontic treatment motivation affectedvariables. The technique of collecting data by givingquestionnaires to students and conduct direct examinationirregularities form of malocclusion in students . Thelocation of this study taken in SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul. Statisticaltest using Chi Square test of correlation. The resultsof research conducted on student respondents XSMA N 1 Sewon Bantul obtained with highly motivated studentswith a form of malocclusion crowdeed, ectopiccaninus, disto-occlusion. Chi Square test results malocclusionorthodontic treatment motivation class X SMA N 1Sewon Bantul obtained significantly by 0.010 < á value of0.05, meaning that Ho is refused and Ha accepted. Sothere is a significant or meaningful relationship betweenmalocclusion with orthodontic treatment motivation.There is significant or meaningful relationship betweenmalocclusion with orthodontic treatment motivation in studentsX SMA N 1 Sewon Bantul.

Abstract

Dental caries or tooth decay is one of the dental and oral health problems that are common in today's society. Elementary school children including vulnerable age who need to get attention for that period are deciduous teeth and permanent teeth simultaneously in the oral cavity are more susceptible to caries. Carbohydrates such as sucrose can cause dental caries, known as cariogenic foods in the role of parents, especially mothers to feed children mainly occurs during the process of food preparation. Action decision-making by the mother in the provision of good food is strongly influenced by maternal psychological readiness level of knowledge and attitudes among mothers. The habit of eating sweet foods influential in the formation of dental caries in children, which in turn also affects the number of caries. The purpose of this study is to describe the mother's knowledge and attitudes about food cariogenic by the number of dental caries Elementary School third grade students Godean 1. The subjects of the research arestudents and students’s mother of Elementary School third grade students Godean 1. This research uses descriptive quantitative method, then the results are presented in tables and percentages. The results showed the knowledge and attitudes of mothers included in both categories with a percentage of 41.7% of mother's knowledge and attitudes of mothers 46.7% with little amount of dental caries is 1-2 caries or 46.7% in the Elementary School third grade students Godean 1. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research, knowledge and attitude of mother about cariogenic food good with little number of child caries.

Abstract

Knowledge comes from experience through sensory perception. Knowledge is obtained by some factors such as education level, jobs, age, socio-economics, experiences, cultures, environments, and information. In the community, lack of knowledge causes wrong behavior in brushing their teeth. Brushing teeth is one of the procedures to keep mouth and teeth healthy. This study aimed to describe 7thgrade students of Junior High School (JHS) 1 Kebonagung Pacitan’s knowledge about brushing teeth. This Study was descriptive research with cross-sectional design. The subjects were all of the 7th-grade students of JHS 1 Kebonagung Pacitan (56 students). The result showed that respondents with adequate knowledge were 10 (17.9%), respondents with moderate knowledge were 26 (46.4%) with most of them were female, and respondents with inadequate of knowledge were 20 (35.7%). Based on the result, the conclusion was the knowledge about brushing teeth of 7th-grade students of JHS 1 Kebonagung Pacitan was moderate (46.4%).
