Abstract

ABSTRAK Penguasaan metodologi penelitian merupakan hal penting bagi mahasiswa dimana mereka dituntut untuk mampu melakukan penelitian sebagai bagian dari kegiatan akademik. Beragam metode penelitian mempunyai cara berbeda dalam teknik pengumpulan data. Salah satunya adalah metode survei yang banyak digunakan peneliti dimana angket atau kuesioner selalu dipakai sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Namun, berdasarkan fakta yang ditemukan banyak mahasiswa peneliti yang belum memahami secara jelas bagaimana merancang, menggunakan, dan menganalisa angket dengan benar. Hal ini menjadi permasalahan mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Lancang Kuning Pekanbaru bahwa mereka masih belum memahami secara jelas teknis pembuatan angket yang layak untuk dipakai sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data penelitian dan bagaimana mengolah data yang diperoleh dari angket. Oleh karena itu, tim pelaksana pengabdian merasa perlu untuk melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan serta memperkaya pengetahuan mahasiswa melalui pelatihan/workshop untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama 1 hari yang berlangsung selama 4,5 jam dan dibagi menjadi 2 sesi. Pada sesi pertama, mahasiswa diberikan topik dan materi pembuatan angket beserta contohnya. Selanjutnya, pada sesi kedua peserta diberikan penugasan membuat angket dibimbing langsung oleh tim pelaksana pengabdian. Penyelesaian tugas pelatihan dilanjutkan diluar sesi selama dua minggu dengan bimbingan online via grup WhatsApp. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, dapat dilihat bahwa peserta pelatihan memahami langkah-langkah pembuatan instrumen angket dan dapat menyelesaikan tugas-tugas pelatihan yang diberikan kepada mereka. Mahasiswa mampu membuat angket penelitian sendiri dan dapat digunakan untuk kepentingan pengumpulan data untuk penyelesaian tugas akhir mereka. Kata kunci: Pelatihan, pembuatan angket, FKIP, Prodi Bahasa Inggris ABSTRACT Research methodology is a pivotal thing to students-researchers since they are required to conduct a lot of scientific research in academic settings. Different research methods result to different ways of data collection techniques. In fact, survey design has been frequently used along with the questionnaire as the common instrument to collect data. However, many students-researchers have not fully understood how to construct/design, use and analyze a questionnaire well. This similar case happened to the English students in the Faculty of Education and Teachers Training in Universitas Lancang Kuning Pekanbaru. Therefore, the outreach program team from the faculty intended to solve the problem by conducting a workshop in order to upgrade the students-researchers’ knowledge and understanding of how to construct and analyze a questionnaire. The workshop was done in one day within the duration of 4.5 hours with two sessions. In the first session, the presenters gave the students the workshop topic and materials in terms of how to design and analyze a questionnaire. In the second session, the students were guided to construct a questionnaire and it then was continued with two weeks’ task completion. The presenters also facilitated the students with the online discussion via WhapsApp group. As a matter of fact, the students-researchers gradually understand and know how to construct a questionnaire. They could construct their own research instruments for the sake of their data collection to complete the thesis writing. Abstract

Practice teaching, indisputably, is one of the school activities distorted significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Practice teachers should adapt online learning to convey teaching and learning activities. This study aimed at finding out the internet device (wi-fi) available at schools in Pekanbaru municipality and learning media used by practicum teachers with the stable internet connectivity at schools in Pekanbaru municipality. There were 47 out of 51 English Education Students of Universitas Lancang Kuning involved in this research. They filled in 27 items of close-ended questions in the Likert scale. The findings revealed that most schools (83%) had wi-fi devices accessed by practicum teachers for teaching activities. With this device, practice teachers used more diverse applications (Google Classroom, Google Form, and Zoom video conference) more frequently (often), shown in the mean score of 4.0, to convey learning materials and tasks delivery. In schools with unstable internet connectivity, they chose the Whattsapp application to convey learning activities, including the delivery of the tasks. In conclusion, the availability of a wi-fi device with stable internet connectivity supports practice teachers in conducting online teaching activities during the pandemic. They can maximize the use of more diverse applications, namely Google Classroom, Google Form, and Zoom conference

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena fenomena beberapa orang guru Bahasa Inggris di Rayon 3 Kabupaten Siak jarang menggunakan media teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) untuk kebutuhan mengajar dikelas. Guru-guru tersebut lebih fokus pada penggunaan buku pegangan/ referensi dan jarang memanfaatkan internet untuk mendapatkan materi ajar pendukung. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran kesiapan guru dalam penggunan aplikasi dasar TIK untuk proses pembelajaran. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 49 guru Bahasa Inggris dari berbagai jenjang, mulai dari Sekolah Dasar hingga Sekolah Menengah Atas, yang tergabung dalam kelompok guru Bahasa Inggris Rayon 3, dari tiga kecamatan yakni, Minas, Tualang dan Kandis, di Kabupaten Siak, Propinsi Riau. Metode penelitian ini adalah survei dan menggunakan desain cross-sectional, Instrumen penelitian menggunakan angket berisi 12 pertanyaan, yang tujuh diantaranya adalah pertanyaan inti tentang persepsi penguasaan aplikasi Office (word, excel, dan powerpoint) dan persepsi kemampuan penggunaan internet untuk browsing, email, social media, blog. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai mean berada pada angka 2.57. Untuk nilai modus dan nilai tengah (median) berada pada angka yang sama yakni 3.0. Untuk komponen nilai  variabilitas, ditemukan bahwa standar devisi relatif tinggi yakni  0.707, nilai varian 5, dan rentang nilai minimum dan maksimum  berada pada angka 1-4. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan kesiapan guru didalam penggunaan TIK berada pada level “cukup” dan “baik.” Mengacu pada hasil temuan, guru-guru senior  perlu memperoleh pendampingan didalam penggunaan TIK agar mereka mampu dan siap didalam penggunan berbagai media TIK untuk menghadapi tantangan pembelajaran pada abad 21.

Abstract

WORKSHOP ON ICT-BASED PROJECT-BASED LEARNING MODEL FOR TEACHERS OF SMAN 2 KAMPAR KIRI TENGAH. This community service activity was carried out at SMAN 2 Kampar Kiri Tengah in Riau Province due to the lack of knowledge, understanding and creativity of teachers in implementing innovative and creative learning in the classroom so that learning becomes monotonous where students are very dependent on teachers. Therefore, the team seeks to facilitate teachers in improving the quality of learning by implementing project-based learning with ICT use. The methods of implementing this activity begins with a situation analysis stage in the form of field observations and interviews with school principal and teachers, identifying teachers’ problems, providing a training on project-based learning model based on the use of ICT which is continued with questions and answers, discussion followed by providing revisions and suggestions for PBL work papers designed by the teachers with assistance. The results showed that participants could design (1) PBL worksheets, (2) project names and objectives, (3) products produced, (4) time allocation for project completion, (5) ICT facilities used (YouTube links, Google websites, blogs, social media, etc.), and (6) the assignment of students in PBL groups. The PBL projects designed by teachers include instructional videos (Mathematics, Physics, PPKn, Economics), Sociology Glossary, Dictionary/Glossary, Daily Vocabulary Dictionary, Worship Practice Book, Genetic Disease Book, Hero Biography History Book, Geography Glossary, and the chemical product of PBL results. Finally, the community service team concluded that the instructional training with the PBL model based on the use of ICT for teachers of SMAN 2 Kampar Kiri Tengah can provide knowledge, understanding and abilities to participants to design this learning model in their respective subjects.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate whether training on peer assessment could foster better writing ability for English lower proficiency EFL students. Forty-eight (48) students participated in this study and randomly assigned into two groups; trained and untrained peer assessment. Trained group is as experimental group and untrained group is as control group. The students’ English proficiency level was lower to higher based on the results of TOEFL test scores. A pre-writing test of argumentative essay was given before providing the training. Then, the students in experimental group was given peer assessment training before instructing them to rate their peers drafts. The whole sessions were lasted in six sessions. The pre-test was administered before giving the six sessions to apply the treatment; and a post test was given at the end of the session to determine the effects of peer assessment training on students’ writing ability. The result of analysis revealed significant between-group differences, F (2, 816) = 3.440, p (.020) < .05. the lower proficiency in trained group performed better than the higher and lower proficiency students in untrained group.

Abstract

The problem of household waste is still being serious issue to be discussed in the context of save environment. Government and non-government sectors have done the actions. Campaigns on the issue of household waste are not successful yet. One of the factor affected this problem is lack of society’s knowledge and attitude toward the negative impacts, management, and the use of household waste. The activity was done by the community service team of Universitas Lancang Kuning in Pengambang Rumbai Timur, Riau to socialize the principles of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) as one of effort to save the environment. The methods used were lecturing and discussion to give understanding to the members about the principles of 3R. Data analysis from questionnaire shows that members’ knowledge and attitude toward household waste management was improved after attending the program. It can be concluded that the objectives of this program was achieved well. Permasalahan sampah rumah tangga masih menjadi isu yang banyak diperbincangkan dalam usaha menjaga kebersihan dan kelestarian lingkungan masyarakat. Berbagai upaya telah dilakukan baik oleh pemerintah maupun pihak swasta. Kampanye sebagai usaha untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan sampah sepertinya masih belum mampu mengatasi permasalahan ini. Salah satu faktor penyebabnya adalah kurangnya pengetahuan dan kesadaran/sikap masyarakat terhadap bahaya, pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan sampah rumah tangga. Kegiatan sosialisasi prinsip 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) merupakan usaha peduli lingkungan yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdian Universitas Lancang Kuning di Desa Pengambang Rumbai Timur, Riau. Metode/teknik pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian menggunakan metode ceramah dan tanya jawab untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada para peserta tentang pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga dengan prinsip 3R. Hasil pengolahan data angket menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan sikap terhadap pengelolaan sampah melalui kegiatan sosialisasi Prinsip 3R tersebut. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap bahaya dan pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga setelah berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini.

Abstract

Research publications made by teachers, especially in Riau Province, are not comparable to provinces in Java Island. Therefore, this community service aimed at providing training on the basic concepts of collaborative classroom action research (CAR) and assistance in writing collaborative CAR from which the papers are expected to be published in accredited national journals. This activity was targeted to teachers at SMA Negeri 6 Tualang. The school was chosen due to its status as Sekolah Penggerak (literally translated as school mover). In addition, the teachers’ ability in carrying out collaborative CAR and writing for publication were not good. The training on basic concept of CAR included problem identification, problem formulation, choosing the right strategy, making observation sheets, and making field notes. To achieve the goal of publication, the teachers were assisted by students who were conducting teaching practice. They were active to consult with the team of community service at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lancang Kuning. The results obtained from this activity were an increase in the teacher's understanding of the basic concepts of CAR, how to identify problems, how to formulate problems, choose the right strategy, techniques for making observation sheets, and techniques for making field notes. Meanwhile, in the CAR activities, the teachers have accomplished the procedures well. More importantly, some of them have completed the initial section (Introduction) and are in the progress of making the other sections, namely Research Methods, Findings and Discussion, and Conclusion of their articles. Thus, it can be concluded that this CAR writing assistance activities have been carried out successfully.

Abstract

Madrasah Aliyah, which prioritizes the mastery of two foreign languages, both English and Arabic (a language that is closely related to Islamic law) requires the equivalence of knowledge in the two foreign languages, especially in Islamic terms. The Students must be able to communicate in English and be able to become preachers on a global scale. For this reason, the community service team from FKIP Universitas Lancang Kuning needs to carry out a workshop on the project of a bilingual dictionary of Islamic terms through project-based learning for students of MAN 1 Kampar. The team has conducted a workshop via zoom meeting for 70 minutes and continued with intensive discussions via WhatsApp for 6 weeks. The results show the participants can understand the steps of compiling a dictionary well and are expected to finish compiling the projected dictionary. Finally, the team concluded that the training for the project of the Islamic terms bilingual dictionary for students could provide them with knowledge, understanding and ability to compile and complete the dictionary.

Abstract

Abstract: Language is not only used for daily conversation, but also is used in education, research, and science both written and spoken. There are four basic skills in learning English should be mastered by students such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. To support all of four skills students should master speaking. One of the ways in improving speaking skill is through the Color Vowel Chart use. The aims of this study are divided into two; first, exploring information about the Color Vowel Chart, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking, second, investigating information in terms of students’ speaking achievement. This research is a qualitative study that uses theses, articles/journals and other literature as the main data sources where research that produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data contained in the text under study. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The findings show that the students can increase their speaking skill by using the Color Vowel Chart. This happens because the success of using Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking in is determined by some factors such as the media, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking. It proves by the results of the previous researchers’ studies. The previous researchers also used the Color Vowel Chart, techniques/strategies, ways/procedures, and the assessment. Fortunately, students can improve their speaking skill by the Color Vowel Chart. Key Words: Color Vowel Chart, Teaching, Speaking

Abstract

Collaborative works among pairs, groups or one pair with another pair are favoured to accomplish, particularly in writing tasks. Students cannot undertake collaborative revision face-to-face during classroom instruction in EFL writing during the pandemic. Therefore, online collaborative revision has become a practical solution, especially in the context of EFL writing classes. This study aims to apprehend students' experience in online collaborative writing revision in the L2 writing context, focusing on language rules. This study employed qualitative research with a narrative inquiry as a research design. A proportionate interview with probability sampling is used as the main instrument to collect data from the EFL students at the Department of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lancang Kuning. Five students from the seventh semester who had taken an argumentative writing class were chosen as the participant. The findings reveals, through experiencing online collaborative writing revision, students were knowledgeable and well-improved in revising their writings, particularly on language rules. The analysis showed the students managed to share multiple perspectives on how they are experiencing the online collaborative writing revision. In conclusion, online collaborative writing revision helps students with their writing revision through the feedback they obtain during the activities in the class and makes them have an exceeding writing performance. The expected contribution from this research is to gain an exceeding description of students' needs in implementing online collaborative writing revision.
