Abstract

Chili is a type of vegetable that is easily damaged and difficult to maintain in fresh form. The durability of fresh chilies if stored at low temperatures can last up to 14 days, but if stored at room temperature chilies only last about 2-4 days. Because of this, chili prices are always erratic, when chili prices are low, farmers will overcome losses by drying chilies using natural methods of sunlight. This method is considered less effective because it requires a large drying area and relatively long drying time. Therefore, it is necessary to manufacture and test chili drying ovens to speed up the drying process time and increase the durability of chilies. This research method focuses on the process of testing the performance of the drying oven. The test parameter used is using temperature of 70℃ with 3 variations of drying process time, namely 6 hours, 7 hours, and 8 hours to produce dry chili water content according to the standard, which is a maximum of 11%. The results of the chili drying oven research are the best drying time for 8 hours with a temperature of 70℃ which produces a water content of 9.33% cayenne pepper. In addition, the drying oven testing process resulted in a drying efficiency of 35.4%.

Abstract

Abstract

Frame construction is one of the things that must be considered in the process of designing a machine, for that the design of the strength of the frame is an important thing in order to withstand the load and support the various components contained in the machine and analyze the strength of the frame related to the capacity of the screw conveyor machine. This study aims to analyze the structural strength of the Support frame which is used to support the new design of the screw conveyor machine in the process of moving and draining wet plastic pieces. The method used in this design includes collecting data, creating a 3D model using solidwork software, then analyzing the structure using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation method. The results of the FEA simulation on the truss construction with a loading of 4,049 N get the highest stress value (stress) with the centralized loading method of while with the uniform loading method of , compared to the yield strength value of 250.000.000 the support fream construction is safe to use, the displacement (deflection) with the uniform loading method is 0.4 mm while the concentrated loading method is 0.77mm, The simulation results of factor of safety analysis from uniform loading are 10 while for the centralized loading method the factor of safety value is 4, so it is concluded that this design is feasible to use and the safety factor is good.

Abstract

The study investigates the phenomenon of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) at a Reynolds number of 1000, focusing on transitional flow conditions. LES has proven effective in understanding VIV across Reynolds number regimes, aiding in comprehending flow physics and mechanisms behind VIV. The research aims to contribute data for validating numerical models and informing engineering practices. The study employs the Navier-Stokes equation and the continuity equation to analyze fluid flow, treating it as incompressible due to negligible density changes. The three-dimensional incompressible momentum equation is discretized using the finite volume method within the spatial domain. Resolution of the pressure Poisson equation ensures compliance with free divergence conditions, enhancing computational fluid dynamics simulations' reliability. Validation of the fluid flow solver involves comparing computed drag force coefficients with established benchmarks, showing agreement within small discrepancies. The study delves into vibration behavior induced by cross flow at various reduced velocities (), noting distinct patterns ranging from irregularities at low  to quasi-periodic behavior at higher values. Analysis of maximum cylinder displacement () across different reduced velocities and mass ratios underscores the complex relationship between system parameters and displacement dynamics. A consistent occurrence of y_max at a specific reduced velocity highlights its significance, while varying mass ratios affect displacement patterns, indicating the importance of understanding these dynamics for optimizing fluid-structure interaction systems.
