Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the content of the triterpenoid saponin compound from Barringtonia asiatica seeds collected from coastal of Malalayang beach, Manado, North Sulawesi. The method of extraction was the maceration with methanol solvent. The identification of the isolate was by thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, and GCMS. The phytochemistry test result of B. asiatica seed extract contained the compounds of alkaloid, saponin, and tannin. Then, the compound was separated by a thin layer chromatography method with a solvent system of methanol:chloroform:water. It produced three nodes that were spread around polar (Rf 0.24), semipolar (Rf 0.6) and non-polar (Rf 0.78) areas. Meanwhile, the process of column chromatography could only separate two chemical components namely semipolar (Rf 0.6) and polar (Rf 0.76). The identification with GCMS resulted in three compounds of Triterpenoid saponins, namely 2.4-bis-(1.1-dimethyl ethyl); 4-Dodecylphenol; and 2.6 bis-(1.1-dimethyl ethyl-4-methyl).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of virgin coconut oil (VCO) produced by Tiga Kelepa in North Minahasa Regency. VCO made from fresh coconut is one of the essential oils that are widely used for health. This research was conducted from March until May 2018. This research used a description method from the product of the VCO manufacture by stimulating method then continued with quality analysis in the laboratory of PT. Sucofindo and compared with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) VCO quality. The results showed that the quality of "Vigin Coconut Oil (VCO)" "Tiga Kelapa" production in North Minahasa is better than the quality of Indonesian National Standards. The content of free fatty acids (FFA), water content, iodine number, color and aroma are suitable with SNI VCO. The composition of VCO fatty acids is dominated by Kaprilic Acid, Capric Acid, and Lauric Acid which are higher in content than SNI VCO. Lauric acid acid gives an analysis value of 57.78% Keywords: Three Coconut Production, Quality, Virgin coconut oil (VCO)

Abstract

Mujair fish (Oreochromis mossambicus) is a freshwater fish that is commonly consumed. This is due that they are easily found and obtrained and with a price in fresh markets that are relatively cheap. Unfortunately, this fish happens to be a very perishable commodity, due to it’s sensitiveness to spoilage because of its high protein content and moisture content. Pangi seeds (Pangium edule) is known to contain tanines, natural polyphenols that inhibits microorganisms through their cell wall permeability. The purpose of this research was to test the potential of pangi seeds crude extract as natural pangi seed toxiti preservatives on mujair fish, shelf life potential on mujair fish. This was achieved by marinating the fish in crude pangi seed extracts at concentrations of 0% (control), 5% and 10% and then store for 4 days at room temperature. Parameters tested on this research includes cyanide identification BSLT toxicity testing and fish spoilage (degradation) through protein changes and pH. Results of this research indicated that pangi seeds crude extract does not contain any cyanide of whatsoever, pangi seed crude extract toxicity testing indicated thatit was not toxic to a concentration of 128233mg/L, meanwhile protein analysis indicated that the optimum concentration of pangi seed crude extract to inhibit fish spoilage is 10% while in terms of pH degradation, the optimum concentration was 5%.
