Abstract

The development of Korean culture that continues to expand to various countries in the world is causing greater interest in Korean culture. Activities related to Korean culture, both traditional and popular, requires centralized facilities. The Korean Cultural Center is a cultural facility that accommodates activities to finds information, and learns and promotes Korean culture in an area. The Korean Cultural Center that introduces Korean culture should reflect the characteristics of Korean culture it self. As well as the characteristics of Neo vernacular architecture transforming the value of traditional culture into the concepts of its design. This design aims to support activities that increase cultural values that are educative, recreational and informative. Design methods used include original data collection, studies and empirical studies library. The result of the design is building as a cultural center that consists of 3 main functions, thait is entrance zone, exhibition zone, and education zone so that it is able to meet the needs of the Korea culture connoisseur in Pekanbaru.Keywords: Cultural Center, Korean, Neo Vernacular

Abstract

Riau University has many student organizations. But there is no adequate facility and place to do some student activities. Therefore, it is required a place to do those activities which is called Student Center. Student Center can be a place to develop their interest, aspiration and creativity. Besides, it can facilitate them in doing some student activities. This building applies tropical architecture approach by Georg Lippsmeier. The principles of this approach are in the form of the building orientation, the ventilation, the use of sun protection, the vegetation and the roof shape. It also applies the concept of dynamic activity. It takes the students’ character who always active, enthusiasm and energetic in the organizational activity. This concept is applied to the architectural aspect by applying dynamic principles, namely: transformation, starting and ending point, direction and flow.Keywords: Student Center, Tropical Architecture, Dynamic Activity

Abstract

Green Architecture is a design approach in building designing. Green Architecture treats landscape, building, and interiors as one, and is also applied as a sustainable approach on development cycle. Green Architecture on the design of Palm Oil Research and Development Center is used as a method to transform concept, principle, and design strategy that exploit surrounding area weakness into an advantage to increase the building’s function. The concept of Power of Nature is applied to the design by metaphorical approach that is a combination of four natural elements in its interrelation to create balance. It is applied to the shape of building mass in terms of orientation, openings, roof shape, choice of color, and landscape pattern design.Keywords: Green Architecture, Palm Oil, Power of Nature

Abstract

Bandar Khayangan Lake Tourist Area is a tourist attraction located in the Village Limbungan, District Rumbai Pesisir. The tourist area has the potential to become the tourism icon in Pekanbaru due to its physical condition which still green and natural, and Bandar Khayangan Lake is the only lake in Pekanbaru. Facilities and infrastructure of recreation onBandar Khayangan Lake Tourist Area is still lacking so that the number of tourists is relatively small. The design method used is the result of field survey, literature study, and empirical data. The designing process of Bandar Khayangan Lake Tourist Area arrangementfocuses on water recreation, land recreation, family culinary, inn, and picnic while enjoying nature beauty. To optimize the potential of Bandar Khayangan Lake as the main recreation, the design theme used is waterfront architecture especially in recreation sector. This designfollows the waterfront architecture rules. The concept used in structuring tourist area is lotus, which is one of plants that lives in waters area of lake and has significant role in ecosystem of Bandar Khayangan lake. This concepts is a reference in the design of areas andbuildings. Abstract

Traditional Market Design is intended to meet daily needs of the society. Traditional Market in Rengat is not enough to accommodate shopping area, especially in the district of West Rengat, Pematang Rebah located near the capital city. Based on records of Market Department of Indragiri Hulu until 2016, West Rengat sub-district does not have any Traditional Market yet. Traditional Market in Rengat also has discomfort such as dirty environment and management of internal space and outer space that is not regular. This condition becomes the background of this design. Traditional Market Design by using Form Follows Function approach. Research methods used trought field surveys, literature reviews, and building analysis. Approaches are applied partially or completely to the market building. Form Follows Function prioritizes planned spaces according to their function that isintended to meet human needs. The concepts used in this design are Trade Values in Modern Concepts. The application of this concept is contained in the Traditional Market design which includes layout of buildings that have functionality of the site, the spatial placement inthe building in accordance with needs and functions, arrangement of circulation inside and outside the building that facilitate activity of buying and selling, a convenient utility for users, and building facades that are result of the concept.Keywords: Traditional Market, Form Follows Function, Trade Values in Modern Concepts Rengat.

Abstract

Insit Fishermen Area is a fisherman settlement area that is less organized and has no tourist attraction. Whereas Insit Fishermen Area is an entrance gate to Meranti island through Ro-Roport. Therefore, it is necessary to arrange the area of fishermen by adding more facilities and infrastructure, not only to support the activities of fishermen but also for tourist attraction. This arrangement also looks for the feasibility standard of facilities, infrastructure, and the dominantaspects of waterfront architecture and its elements. The design method used is the results of the survey, documentation, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. The results of thisarrangement applying the concept of “Insit With The Flow”. The arrangement of the area follows the flow of the Insit tributary, which is the result of the applying elements of the concept and waterfront architecture theme. This arrangement utilizes the river as a circulation in and out of fishing boats, and on the riverside, there is a Promenade/Esplanade, seats, and parks.
