Abstract

Treatment of infections using penicillin-derived antibiotics such as methicillin has been found to cause antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This bacteria could produce a beta-lactamase enzyme to form a resistant strain. Research on antibacterial activity continues to develop. Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) was one of the herbal plants whose fruit has long been used for the treatment and prevention of various diseases. This study aimed to determine the potential inhibition of white pomegranate leaf extracts (Punica granatum L.) on the growth of Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) strain and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain. White pomegranate leaf extract macerated with ethanol 96%, evaporated to obtain pure extracts made with a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and with 100% tested with invitro diffusion method. It was found that the extract of white pomegranate leaves with 30% (10.00 ± 0.0) concentration was able to inhibit the growth of positive Gram bacteria strains MRSA and the extract was unable to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria strain ESBL.

Abstract

Malaria represents one of the tropical diseases and a health problem in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. Malaria cases are still high in some districts in NTT, including East Sumba, Central Sumba, West Sumba, and Southwest Sumba. Infants, children, and pregnant women are the high-risk groups to suffer from malaria. The highest number of cases was recorded in Southwest Sumba district with 4,273 cases in November 2022. This situation requires preventive and curative actions to address malaria cases in NTT. These actions include health education and malaria data mapping for high-risk groups in malaria-endemic areas. It is expected that these measures will assist in healthcare services, especially in malaria-endemic areas. Considering the current phenomenon of digital era development, the researchers have designed an Android-based mapping and education application for malaria called “mobfabria”. To develop a prototype of the mobfabria applicatio. This is research and development study. The research was conducted in 2023, where the application test took place from March to April 2023 at the Oemasi Health Center in Kupang District. The research subjects consisted of 5 individuals during the development stage and 15 pregnant women during the evaluation stage. The application created by the researchers can be downloaded from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobfabria.apps. The research stages are approval, ethical test, instrument test, and application test. The application is developed according to the needs analysis, system design, and database. It was built using Android tools. The assessment by experts in health promotion, media, and malaria practitioners was considered good enough, leading to changes in the application's interface design and data storage units. The data was analyzed descriptively. Mapping and data collection of pregnant women with malaria can be accurately obtained. This application is expected to be used for healthcare services and facilities in malaria-endemic areas.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a direct infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Most TB germs attack the lungs, but can also affect other body organs. Tuberculosis is spread by germs, so tuberculosis can be transmitted from one person to another when a sufferer coughs. To overcome this, WHO recommends a DOTS strategy, one of which is treatment. Tuberculosis treatment is given in packages in the form of Fixed Dose Combination Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (OAT-KDT). It is feared that long-term TB treatment will cause side effects on the liver because OAT is hepatotoxic. This study aims to analyze albumin and bilirubin levels at the beginning of treatment and at the end of treatment. This research is called observational research because the researcher only observes the research subjects and looks for data related to the research without treating the research subjects. This type of research is a combination of documentation and observational studies with a cross-sectional study design (Cross Sectional Study), which can assess changes in liver function, in this case albumin and total bilirubin, from pulmonary TB sufferers at the beginning of treatment and at the end of treatment undergoing TB treatment. The sample in this study was 13 patients. The research results showed that the results of examinations for patients at the start of treatment: there were 10 respondents (76.9%) who had albumin levels that were included in the normal category, while the remaining 3 had low albumin levels. Examination results for patients at the start of treatment: there were 11 respondents (84.6%) who had bilirubin levels which were included in the normal category while the remaining 2 had high bilirubin levels. Examination results for patients at the end of treatment: there were 7 respondents (70%) whose albumin levels were included in the normal category while the remaining 3 had high albumin levels. Examination results for patients at the end of treatment: there were 8 respondents (80%) who had bilirubin levels which were included in the normal category while the remaining 2 had low bilirubin levels. The results of the difference test show that there is a difference in albumin at the beginning of treatment and at the end of treatment with a p value of 0.010 < 0.05. Meanwhile, the opposite result was obtained, namely that there was no difference in patient bilirubin levels at the beginning of treatment and at the end of treatment with p values of 0.312, 0.286 and 0.352 > 0.05, respectively.

Abstract

Adolescent nutritional problems are a continuation of childhood nutritional problems such as iron deficiency anemia. Prolonged iron deficiency can cause anemia. Teenagers need more to replace iron lost along with menstrual blood. Anemia in adolescent girls is currently still high, according to WHO, the world prevalence of anemia ranges from 40-88%. The majority of students at SMP Negeri 5 Nekamese are young women who are vulnerable to suffering from anemia, so it is necessary to conduct anemia education and measure hemoglobin (Hb) in young women. The aim of this community service is to increase the knowledge of young women about anemia and school health so that it becomes a healthy and anemia-free school. The empowerment method in this community service activity uses the Question and Answer Lecture method. Counseling was conducted for young women in grades 7, 8 and 9 at SMP Negeri 5 Nekamese on September 9 2023, which was attended by 30 young women. The activity began with preparations for making an examination stand, distributing leaflets, explaining material or counseling using the lecture method of question and answer and evaluation. Before the counseling is carried out, a pre-test is carried out, then after the counseling a post-test is carried out. The implication of this community service activity is an increase in young women's knowledge about anemia and healthy schools. It is hoped that after carrying out this activity, young women can prevent anemia during adolescence by increasing their food consumption patterns to be diverse, nutritious, balanced and safe.

Abstract

Control efforts with the DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short-course) strategy have been implemented. The side effects of this drug will continue as long as the sufferer takes it, furthermore anti-TB drugs (OAT) will change the metabolism in the sufferer's body. Chronic effects that arise from OAT treatment include increased levels of uric acid, glucose and hemoglobin in the blood. From the results of a preliminary study, data collection was carried out on the number of pulmonary TB sufferers in Kupang City in 2021, amounting to 385. Of this number, 72 cases were found at the Oesapa Community Health Center who were smear positive for pulmonary TB and had recovered and were still undergoing treatment. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out research to determine blood glucose, uric acid and hemoglobin levels in pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients who take OAT (anti-TB drugs) before taking, after taking 2 months and 6 months of treatment. This research method is descriptive and statistical. Statistical analysis using One Way Anova and Linear Regression tests was used to determine the effect of length of treatment on blood profiles in pulmonary tuberculosis sufferers. TB sufferers with anti-tuberculosis drug therapy at the Oesapa Community Health Center based on the age of the patient, there were 11 sufferers aged <30 years (55%), 9 sufferers aged >30 years (45%). Based on gender, 13 sufferers were female (65%), 7 sufferers were male (35%). Hemoglobin levels checked before treatment showed a mean of 13.015 g/dL, during 2 months of treatment 13.185 g/dL, and after 6 months of treatment the mean was 11.94 g/dL. The current blood sugar levels from table 1.3 above which were checked before treatment showed an average of 137.7 g/dL, during 2 months of treatment 145.15 g/dL, and after 6 months of treatment the average was 144.15 g/dL. Uric acid levels were based on the respondent's length of treatment with an average uric acid level before treatment of 6.16 mg/dL, 2 months of treatment 5.92 mg/dL and 6 months of treatment 6.43 mg/dL. Hemoglobin levels, instant blood sugar and uric acid before, 2 months and 6 months of treatment showed a p value <0.05, meaning the data was not normally distributed. The results of the analysis using the Friedman anova test showed a p value (0.137) > 0.05. This means there is no difference in uric acid measurement values ??before, 2 months and 6 months of treatment. The results of the analysis using the Friedman anova test showed a p value (0.142) > 0.05. This means that there is no difference in blood sugar measurement values ??before, 2 months and 6 months of treatment. The results of the analysis using the Friedman anova test showed a p value (0.378) > 0.05. This means there is no difference in Hb measurement values ??before, 2 months and 6 months of treatment
