Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTStudy of Reproduction Aspects of Endemic Fish Bonti-bonti (Paratherina striata)in Lake Towuti, South Sulawesi. Bonti-bonti, is one of endemic fishes in Lake Towuti andLake Mahalona. Bonti-bonti has been utilized by people around the lake for consumption inthe form of 6esh fish, dry fish, and salty fish; as ornamental fish; and as raw material foranimal feed. It should be protected from decreasing of fish population due to increasingexploitation and habitat quality changes. The objective of this research is to know thereproduction aspects of this endemic fish, as basic data for conservation. This research wasconducted in Lake Towuti, South Sulawesi from May 2006 to April 2007 at five stations.Samples were collected using experimental gillnet sized 0.625, 0.75, 1.0, and 1.25 inches. The result shows that testis and ovary was found each in one organ during a period of gonadadevelopment. Gonada maturity, was observed histologically oscured at five maturity stages. The range of egg diameters were from 0.01 to 1.50 mm. The fust gonada maturity period ofmale and female fish were reached at 5.53 and 6.26 cm of total length, respectively. Male andfemale fish gonada maturity (50%) were at 16.78 and 14.61 cm total length, respectively.Gonada maturity index value of male and female were 0.01-3.96% and 0.02-6.77%. Thereproduction ability is related to fecundity which have an effect on number ofjuveniles. Therange of fish fecundity were 818-6,051, which were devided kom female with 11.30-18.33cm total length. Bonti-bonti fish is partial spawner type.Key words : Reproduction aspects, endemic fish, Paratherina striata, and Lake Towuti

Abstract

This research is intended 1) to know land suitability for tourism and fisheries at Makassar's coastal area 2) to calculate carryng capacity area for conducting tourism and fisheries at City coastal area of Makassar. This research done be conducted in City coastal area of Makassar South Sulawesi. Method used in research is land suitability analysis and carryng capacity coastal area for beach tourism and fisheries. Research result suitable area for beach tourism is 10.373,7 m. There Is even for  diving tourism is as extensive as 4,3 ha at Samalona's Island waters. Land suitability for floating cages is 490, 39 ha, seaweeds culture area is 1000,4 h. Carryng capacity for floating cages 8,796 ha, while is 3.258 units available. By use of long line method, therefore acquired 231 units on area as extensive as 554,25 ha. Carryng capacity for beach tourism : kayangan island 15 person; Lae Lae 53 ; Tanjung Bayang, Tanjung Bunga and Akarena 162 person; Losari's beach 137 person; Barombong's beach is 47 person. Key words : City coastal, area of Makassar South.

Abstract

Study on habitat, distribution and size structure of opudi (Telmatherina antoniae) was carried out in Lake Matano, South Sulawesi from September 2010 to August 2011. Habitat was described based on underwater observations. Fish collections were accomplished monthly by using beach seine. The fish was distributed throughout littoral areas within clear water. The observed habitat ranged between sandy, cobbles to bouldery bottom substrate. Some parts of habitat had less vegetation and the others did not. Fish collected during the study were 2707 individuals, in which 53.08% of them were males and the remains were females. The individuals had standard length (SL) ranged between 32.76 and 85.67 mm. Male specimens were dominated by individuals ranged between 41.58 and 54.80 mm (78.98% of total male specimens). Female specimens were dominated by individuals ranged between 37.17 and 54.80 (87.80% of total female specimens). Both male and female individuals were dominated by large size classes.Key words: Distribution, habitat, size structure, Telmatherina antoniae.

Abstract

The Lubuk Lampam floodplain’s ecosystem is naturally affected by the fluctuation of the water surface. This ecosystem also receives anthropogenic substances such as nutrients and other chemicals, especially from the oil palm plantation and its industrial processing activities. The main objective of this research was to determine the trophic status of the floodplain using the trophic level index (TLI) and Carlson’s trophic state index (TSI). The water quality and the fish samples were collected and analyzed from 7 stations representing various types of floodplain habitat. The results showed that the trophic status of Lubuk Lampam was hypereutrophic (very nutrient-rich). This was also supported by the high increase of the body weight (“b” value more than 3) and the high gonadosomatic index (GSI) of the studied fishes, i.e. Osteochilus vittatus 2.53-6.81% (male) and 3.00-15.86% (female); Helostoma temminckii 0.28-3.33% (male) and 1.30-10.43% (female); and Channa striata 0.33-0.59% (male) and 0.21-2.73% (female).
