Abstract

The research aims to implement contextual teaching and learning approach in writing skill which is integrated in the lesson plan. The methodology conducted in the study is a case study taken in one of elementary school in Indonesia. The purpose is to investigate the improvement of students’ writing skill post covid 19. There are five strategies of contextual teaching and learning approach, namely relating, experiencing, applying, cooperating, and transferring (REACT). The implementation is providing practices on descriptive and narrative writing. The assessment is the learning project related to real-world context and writing story telling. The results of the research are expected to give impact for enhancing the students’ creative writing, to provide learning process which is practical in real world situation, and to assign a lesson plan which is relevant with the current development in English language teaching. Abstract

The fact that students have lack of reading comprehension as the result of ineffective implementation in course syllabus. The study aims at implementing authentic assessment in extensive reading. The objective of activities in authentic assessment is to enhance the students’ pragmatic acquisition in understanding political news text. Qualitative method design is used by conducting classroom action research. The finding indicates that the pedagogy implementation provides various tasks in improving the students’ pragmatic acquisition. The result reveals that reading strategy can be reinforced through listening, writing, and speaking to have an understanding in a context. Forty-five students in extensive reading class answer open-ended questionnaire and the result shows that pragmatic acquisition is an effective strategy to comprehend the reading text. The integration of authentic assessment and the acquisition of semantic meaning are suggested to be investigated in future research.

Abstract

This paper aims at investigating the impacts of the enactment of Google classroom as instructional media in the context of EFL. E-learning through Google classroom is an effective and interactive media to teach writing and speaking skills during social distancing. This is a qualitative study assessment, interview, and questionnaire in collecting data. Analytic and diagnostic rating scales are the assessment to measure writing and speaking skills. The results show that English Language Teaching in Google classroom promotes innovation in collaborating the use of assessment, students’ background knowledge, and real-world materials. The impact shows that students have great achievement in both writing and speaking skills and Google classroom is more recommended than traditional lecturing.  Riset ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan dampak penggunaan Google classroom sebagai media pembelajaran dalam konteks pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing. E-learning melalui Google classroom merupakan media yang efektif dan interaktif untuk mengajarkan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara selama social distancing. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan wawancara, dan kuesioner untuk pengumpulan data. Skala penilaian analitik dan diagnostik adalah penilaian yang digunakan untuk mengukur keterampilan menulis dan berbicara. Kuesioner dan wawancara juga digunakan untuk menganalisis hasil temuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran Bahasa Inggris melalui Google classroom, mempromosikan inovasi dalam mengkolaborasikan penggunaan penilaian, pengetahuan latar belakang siswa, dan materi dunia nyata. Dampaknya menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki prestasi yang lebih baik dalam keahlian menulis dan berbicara. Penggunaan Google classroom lebih direkomendasikan daripada kuliah tradisional secara tatap muka selama pandemi covid 19.

Abstract

The improvement of student reading skill involves some efforts in choosing the authentic material. The use of a heroic story, R.A. Kartini gives moral impacts for students’ character building and language skills improvement. The reading assessment provides some activities which explores the content of the reading text. The activities are identifying the good reader behaviors that have been taught and assessed, collecting evidence that is related to the good reader behaviors, analyzing the evidence on the good reader behaviors, and making an instructional decision to improve the reading skill. The advantages of using reading assessment activities to assessed the student reading comprehension are students participate in giving opinion, able to attach meaning to words or sentences, make summary prediction, describe the problem, give relevant solutions, retell the story in chronological order, and use prior knowledge in implementing the moral value. The analysis shows that students have the good reader behaviors as it is proven from their checklist score. The reading assessment gives result that portfolio is a recommended activity to improve the student reading comprehension.

Abstract

Contextual teaching and Learning (CTL) is one of english learning strategy which is appropriate to all situation. The human resources in mangrove batik small and medium enterprise are given an english practice that is valuabe for the future development of human knowledge, organization, and product market. Mangrove batik is a unique product which should be promoted internationally. In order to improve the human resources, learning english in spoken form is very important to support the basic communication in real situation and the development of mangrove batik smalland medium enterprise production.

Abstract

Marketing language literacy is a communication skill that must be mastered by business people in Kalanganyar tourist village. UMKM business from processed fish becomes a product that can have high competitiveness if it has a good marketing method to consumers. Kalanganyar tourism village is a fostered area or cooperation partner who will implement an international standard tourist village and language literacy is the answer to the problems of people who do not master this marketing language literacy. Community service in the tourist village of Kalanganyar aims to create a community of business people who can practice the language of communication in English in sales and purchasing activities. In addition, knowledge of an effective marketing system is given to business people to equip the community in marketing processed products online and offline with special language literacy, namely marketing English. With the strengthening of language literacy and a reliable marketing system, the vision and mission of an international tourist village can be realized gradually and is expected to encourage Kalanganyar community to realize the tourism village program.

Abstract

Reading habit is important to be introduced to young learners. Through academic literacy, students not only comprehend social and science texts but also enhance their character. To realize the literacy program in these lessons, a team-game tournament is used that consists of a presentation, group discussion, reading tournament, and the award. The study uses a qualitative research method that applies a semi-structured observation guide and interviews sixth-grade students in one primary school in Indonesia. The observation indicates teaching techniques for improving reading comprehension, and the interview shows the impacts of academic literacy in the team-game tournament (TGT) on students’ knowledge. The findings show that academic literacy improves understanding of social and science texts, and moral values. This is an integrated skill because students get academic knowledge and character building. Students know how to comprehend passages related to social and science, as well as how to communicate the information through presentation skills. Academic literacy is proven to be an effective strategy to improve understanding and fluency in written and spoken forms. The study recommends that team-game tournament provides practices not only in reading but also in writing and speaking skills. Team-game tournament is an interesting learning method to have fun activity in the modern era of English teaching for young learners. HIGHLIGHTS: Academic literacy in team-game tournament (TGT) strategy is suggested to boost young learners’ reading comprehension and character building. Academic literacy improves the students’ understanding of social and science texts, and moral values. Academic literacy promotes fun learning in writing, reading, and speaking skills.

Abstract

Literasi bahasa pemasaran merupakan keahlian berkomunikasi yang harus dikuasai oleh pelaku bisnis di desa wisata Kalanganyar. Bisnis UMKM dari hasil olahan ikan menjadi produk yang dapat memiliki daya saing yang tinggi apabila memiliki cara pemasaran yang baik kepada konsumen. Desa wisata Kalanganyar merupakan wilayah binaan ataupun mitra kerjasama yang akan menerapkan desa wisata bertaraf internasional dan literasi bahasa menjadi jawaban atas permasalahan masyarakat yang kurang menguasai literasi bahasa marketing ini. Pengabdian masyarakat di desa wisata Kalanganyar bertujuan untuk mewujudkan komunitas pelaku bisnis yang dapat mempraktekkan bahasa komunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris di kegiatan penjualan dan pembelian. Selain itu, pengetahuan akan sistem pemasaran yang efektif diberikan kepada pelaku bisnis untuk memperlengkapi komunitas tersebut dalam memasarkan produk hasil olahan secara online maupun offline dengan literasi bahasa khusus yaitu bahasa inggris marketing. Dengan adanya penguatan literasi bahasa dan sistem pemasaran yang handal, maka visi dan misi desa wisata yang bertaraf internasional dapat terwujud secara bertahap dan diharapkan dapat mendorong masyarakat Kalanganyar untuk merealisasikan program desa wisata.
