Abstract

The graduates of vocational pre-service teacher education are expected to possess appropriate pedagogical, theoretical and practical skills. As part of the academic curriculum, all students should do two kind of apprenticeship programs: an industrial training and a teaching practicum at school. These programs providing students with the exposure to a real working environment in the industry and vocational schools. Thorough this program, the industry and the school could assess the student teachers’ competences in their subject-related skills. Therefore, this study aims to identify feedback from the employers during the apprenticeship in order to determine their expectations toward the practical skills of vocational student teachers using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach. The employer’ feedbacks are then translated into technical requirements which specifying the actions required in teaching and learning process. The QFD help the education institution to identify the gaps in the curriculum based on the requirements from the school and industry.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe students' learning independence viewed from learning styles on learning with Scaffolding model. Type of research used qualitative descriptive methods with case study design. The research subjects were fourth grade students and teachers. Sample technique was purposive sample technique, data collection was non-participatory observation, in-depth interviews and document studies. Learning process scaffolding carried out by the teacher is (1) explaining the learning material, (2) determining the Zone Of Proximal Development (ZPD) based on the value of previous learning outcomes, (3) Grouping students according to ZPD, (4) giving group assignments (5) encouraging students to complete tasks independently in groups, (6) providing assistance in the form of motivation, giving examples, (7) directing students to teach each other to their friends, (8) conclude lessons, give evaluation questions, and homework. The highest aspect of learning independence is self efficacy), the lowest aspect is diagnosis of learning needs. Learners with visual learning styles tend to show aspects of the diagnosis of learning needs. Learners with auditory learning styles tend to show aspects of self-efficacy and view difficulties as challenges. Learners with kinesthetic learning styles tend to show aspects of diagnosing learning needs, learning settings, and self-efficacy.

Abstract

Technical and vocational education (TVE) in a country cannot only talk about a narrow scope in the world of education and work but also play a role in ensuring someone achieves a prosperous life socially, economically and environmentally without forgetting preparation for the next generation. This research will visualize and map the development trend of publications on sustainable development in the TVE scope worldwide and in Indonesia. The method used is descriptive quantitative and bibliometric analysis with research data taken from the Scopus database. The results of the study show that increasing research is essential for the development and efforts of the TVE community to increase the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs). Indonesia is recorded as having only started publication in 2017, with a total publication of 42 documents until early 2024. Interestingly, there has been a decline in the number of publications in the last two years. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that research topics in Indonesia have not yet demonstrated success in linking them to the social, economic and environmental spheres. Further research is recommended to conduct a systematic literature review to identify global action program (GAPs) in sustainable development research in TVE communities.
