Abstract

This research was a classroom action research (CAR). The objective of this research was to find out students’ vocabulary mastery especially its application in a correct sentence pattern by using Word Wall method to the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Mamuju. This research consisted of three cycles. There were 30 students in one class that followed this research. The result showed there was improvement of the students’ vocabulary. It could be seen on their average score in the first cycle improved by 49.25%, from the diagnostic test 34.83%. Then, it improved more in the second cycle by 60.8% and more in the third cycle that achieves 68.25%. However, despite getting the students’ average score improved, after applying the three cycles, it is still not success achieving the Minimum Completeness Criteria (MCC) of the subject that was 75.

Abstract

The Effects of Outline to Improve Students’ Writing Ability at the Second Year Students of SMAN 3 Mamuju. Outline is a useful tool to help writers get easier in developing their ideas. An outline can do two things: first, it can save a lot of rewriting and second, it allows writers to check quickly their paragraph’s unity. The aim of this research is to find out whether the use of outline can improve the students’ writing ability in a descriptive paragraph. The method used was true-experimental design. The subject of this research was class XI A students of SMAN 3 Mamuju. The data collected was from the test given to the students and was analyzed through quantitative method. To get the score, the researcher used scoring scale which includes the content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics. The mean score, standard deviation, and t-test between the pre-test and post-test was calculated by using Jacob’s scoring rubric. The data analysis showed that the students’ got their mean score greater in the posttest than in the pretest, in which the mean score was 51.8 and 68.5. Moreover, the t-test value (25.064) was also higher than the t-table value (2.045), which is meant the treatment of outline strategy gave a significant improvement to the students’ writing ability of SMAN 3 Mamuju.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether the use of mind mapping can motivate the students in writing. The method was used is mix method (Quantitative and Qualitative). The subject of this research was the second semester students of Tomakaka University of Mamuju. The data was collected and analyzed through scoring scale which includes the content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics by using Jacob’s scoring rubric. Then, to find out the students are motivated through the method applied or not, it was used questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire wasanalyzed by the Likert scale, it is divided into strongly motivated, motivated, fairly motivated, unmotivated, and strongly unmotivated.Then, interview are used to confirm the students answers in the questionnaire. The result of this research is the second semester students of TomakakaUniversity of Mamuju are motivated in writing through Mind Mapping method. It can be shown from the data of writing test, questionnaire and interview. The result of the treatment given showed a trend of increasing students’ writing score. And also, students gave positive responses to the questionnaire distributed where most students answered that Mind Mapping method was very useful in increasing their writing motivation.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the Increased Ability to Compare the Content of Various Reviews to Find the Systematics of a Review Using the Problem Based Learning Model. The population in this study were all students of class XI at SMK Negeri 1 Mamuju. The data consisted of data on student learning outcomes through learning achievement tests in each cycle and data on student activities in learning based on observations made. Student learning outcomes test data were analyzed using the mean while student learning activity data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that the ability to compare the contents of various reviews to find the systematics of a reviewer increased in each cycle. Based on data on pre-cycle, there is 1 student who is in the complete category with a score of 75 and above with a percentage of 4%, cycle I 15 students who are in the complete category with a percentage of 60%, cycle II 18 students who are in the complete category with a percentage of 72% and cycle III 25 students in the complete category with a percentage of 100%. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was concluded that the use of the Problem Based Learning model could improve the ability to compare the contents of various reviews to find the systematics of class XI student reviews at SMK Negeri 1 Mamuju.

Abstract

Reading comprehension simply understanding what has been read. There are many strategies that can be applied by the teacher to maximize their role in the classroom, but most of them did not try to find a variety of methods. One of the methods that can be used is Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC). Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) is a method that students work together to accomplish shared goals. They work together to maximize their own and each other’s learning. In cooperative groups, students work together on specific tasks or projects in such a way that all students in the group benefit from the interactive experience. Since learners are different in their intellectual capacity, their attitude, and their linguistic methods. Furthermore, cooperative learning is a great way to engage English language learners in learning both language and content. This research will be quasi-experiment research. In this research, pre-test and post-test will be administered. To obtain the data, the researcher will use a reading comprehension test and questionnaire. This research will focus on how Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) enhance reading comprehension. Therefore, the researcher decides to give the title of this research namely “Enhancing Students’ Reading Comprehension by Using CIRC”. The Output target of this research is “published in the national scientific non-accredited journal, 1st-yearsst year target: Accepted/Published”.
