Abstract

Bahasa Mandarin telah dijadikan sebagai salah satu mata pelajaran di sekolah-sekolah yang ada di Indonesia termasuk TK/PAUD.Namun demikian, banyak kendala yang dihadapi oleh pihak sekolah. Minimnya pelatihan dan tenaga pendidik bahasa Mandarin untuk pendidikan anak usia dini menggerakkan hatiTim Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat USU untuk mengadakan pelatihan Pembelajaran Bahasa Mandarin Anak Usia Dini kepada tenaga pendidik pra-sekolah di salah satu sekolah Taman Kanak-Kanak yang ada di kota Medan yaitu RA Ar-Rahmah. Metode pelaksaan kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan intensif dengan perpaduan teori dan praktek serta diskusi dan unjuk kerja dari hasil pelatihan. Pengajaran bahasa Mandarin kepada para tenaga pendidik dilakukan dengan prinsip “Pengajaran bahasa Mandarin terhadap anak usia dini” dengan tetap mempertimbangkan dan menghormati posisi peserta sebagai pengajar yang memiliki latar belakang dan pengalaman yang berbeda-beda. Pelatihan mengikut prinsip TCFL (Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language)berupa materi yang aplikatif dan sederhana melaluiflashcard, kertas lipat, menyanyi lagu-lagu sederhana, cara memperkenalkan diri, dan lain-lain. Hasil praktek pengajaran yang dilakukan sangat memuaskan dan sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Kata kunci: Bahasa Mandarin, Anak-usia-dini, TCFL ABSTRACT Mandarin has been used as one of the subjects in Indonesia's schools including kindergarten/PAUD. However, many obstacles faced by the school. The lack of training and teaching staff of Mandarin for early childhood education moved the hearts of the USU Community Service Team to conduct Early Childhood Mandarin Learning training for pre-school educators in one of the Kindergarten schools in Medan, namely RA Ar -Rahmah. The method of this activity is intensive training with a blend of theory and practice as well as discussion and performance of the training results. Teaching Mandarin to educators is carried out with the principle of "Teaching Mandarin to young children" while still considering and respecting the position of participants as instructors who have different backgrounds and experiences.The training follows the principles of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language) in the form of applicative and simple material through flashcards, folding paper, singing simple songs, how to introduce yourself, etc. The results of the teaching practice carried out were very satisfying and as expected. Abstract

The translation is a representation of the effect of developing technology on language. Translated website or website localization with the easiness of accessibility is considered as the most efficient space for transferring the information nowadays. It certainly involves the appropriate translation strategies in order to provide reliable information required. This research aims to identify the translation strategy involved under foreignization and domestication reference in the official website localization of Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia, to find out the most dominant translation strategy used, and to analyze the reasons to what extent foreignization and domestication applied, by referring the classifications proposed by Venuti (2008). The source of data was taken from five (5) popular news along 2018 which were broken down into 191 data analyzed, consisting of 5 headlines in the form of phrases and sentences, contents totally written in 161 sentences, and 25 sub-contents in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. The research found that the translator used all eight (8) translation strategies under domestication and foreignization reference including literal translation, transliteration, borrowing, transference, transposition, omission, addition, and adaptation, simultaneously or separately. Literal translation becomes the most dominant translation strategy used and it can indicate that the website localization is translated into source text-oriented.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the kinds and functions of some maxim of politeness which is used in The Kelly Clarkson Show. Two theories are used in doing this research , the first ist theory proposed by Leech Principles of Pragmatics (1983) and the second is a theory proposed by Searle Speech Event (1979). In doing this reseacrch the writer uses descriptive and qualitative by Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2004) to analyze the research. The source of data in this thesis taken from the YouTube videos The Kelly Clarckson Show. The data are the utterances of the host and the guests in the videos. The finding of this research shows that there are three kinds of the maxim which are used in these videos they are Approbation, Agreement, and Modesty Maxim. The most dominant maxim found is the Approbation maxim. Then, there were two kinds of functions of the maxim of politeness found in The Kelly Clarckson Show, they are convivial and collaborative.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the quality of the translation on the Medan City Tourism web pages. In this research, the researcher used the translation quality assessment model proposed by Nababan et al. The TQA model by Nababan et al. focuses on three aspects, namely accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The final result of measuring these three aspects is the total value for the quality of the translation on a scale of 1-3. This research has the objectives to: 1) analyze the accuracy of the Indonesian- English translation of the Medan Tourism web page 2) to analyze the acceptability of the Indonesian-English translation of the Medan Tourism web page 3) to analyze the readability of the Indonesian-English translation of the Medan Tourism web page 4) to analyze the total quality of the Indonesian-English translation of the Medan Tourism web pages. There were three professional translators as the raters who helped in assessing the text of the Medan City Tourism web pages. In general, the results of this research indicate that the translation quality of the Medan City Tourism web page is accurate, quite acceptable, and quite readable. The score for the accuracy aspect is 2.7, for the acceptability aspect is 2.2, for the readability aspect is 2.2 and the total quality of the translation is 2.4.

Abstract

This article investigates the Interpersonal function in the speech by BTS at the 75th UN General Assembly. The objective is to find out the Mood types and to describe the Interpersonal function realized in BTS’ speech. Qualitative method is used in this study. The data were collected from the clauses in BTS’ speech at UNGA. Through this study, it is found that the Mood types in BTS’ speech at UNGA are Declarative mood (92,30%), Imperative mood (6,59%), and Interrogative mood (1,09%). The findings also revealed the dominant Mood types is Declarative which is used to share or to give information to the audience. For the Interpersonal function, it is realized through Mood structures which contains the Mood and Residue elements. Through Mood elements, it is found that there are Subject, Finite, and Mood Adjunct. While in Residue elements, there are Predicator, Complement, and Circumstantial Adjunct.

Abstract

Since March 2020, the Government has enforced Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) in various red zones to minimize the number of Covid-19 cases, to work from home or live at home might bring additional issues, such as violence against women, in the latest situation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, newspapers play a vital role in reporting occurrences of female assault. .This article focuses on examining how women are exposed to violence in Indonesia during the current pandemic of coronavirus (COVID-19) from Critical Discourse Analysis. This research aimed to discover the Critical Discourse Analysis of newspaper articles that deal with violence against women. The articles is qualitative research, reported based on content analysis techniques. This research contributes to the analysis of media representation of women by providing context-sensitive results of the phenomena that occurred in women during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings reveal the stability of discursive structures over time, especially gender bias in women's media representation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Women are still affected by gender bias due to the patriarchal, social, and culture that exists in Indonesia. The newspapers can provide a clear picture of women. This research by the Critical Discourse Analysis investigates how the BBC.com news, VOAindonesia.com texts reveal their meaning, while the newspapers reported women's existence as marginalizing, the BBC.com news, VOAindonesia.com, were also the courage to raise women's image as marginalizing.

Abstract

This research is intended to describe the double discrimination towards black women in society found in Hidden Figures and Where Hands Touch, and to find out the similarities and differences of double discrimination towards black women between the two films. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, which involves gathering, categorizing, and analyzing data. The data were dialogues and scene shots related to double discrimination. Based on the data analysis, there are racial and gender discrimination that is found in internal and external conflicts. After analyzing the data through the analysis of the intrinsic elements, similarities and differences are found between the two films. The two main characters; Katherine and Leyna, were similarly mistreated and harmed by society as black women. Katherine fought against double discrimination, while Leyna could do nothing but surrender. Their races and backgrounds are also different. Katherine was born to black American parents and lived in Virginia, United States. Meanwhile, Leyna was born biracial to black African and white German and lived in Berlin, Germany. In America in 1961, there was still tolerance, even though black women were still distinguished from white women. However, in Germany in 1944, there was no place for black women
