Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted to see the improvement of students’ ability in speaking descriptive text by using mind mapping. The research was done at the first year 7 (X7) SMAN 3 Padang Panjang in the 2015/2016 academic year in two cycles. There were twenty nine students in this class. The data were collected through pre-test, formative test and observation. The students were led to speak descriptive text by using mind mapping and guided to speak it well. Through observation and formative test, it seemed that the students liked and enjoyed speaking descriptive text. It could be seen from their achievement improved from cycle to cycle and their test results. The improvement got was 61 % in the first cycle and 78 % in the second cycle. In conclusion, the students’ speaking ability can be improved if they know and understand what and how to speak and the use of the appropriate teaching aids is very important. One of the teaching aids that can be used to improve students’ ability in speaking descriptive text is mind mapping. It is suggested to English teachers to use mind mapping in teaching speaking descriptive text. Keywords: speaking, descriptive text, mind mapping

Abstract

Although the students have sufficient knowledge in grammar and vocabulary, they still are afraid of speaking. They still have a lot of mistakes in speaking, especially narrative.This classroom action research was done to see the enhancement of students’ skill in speaking   narrative by using picture series. The research was conducted at the second year science class 1(XI IA 1) of SMAN 3 Padang Panjang in the 2017/ 2018 academic year. It was done in two cycles. The data were collected through pre-test, formative test and observation. The students were led to tell the stories by using picture series, and then they were guided to tell the stories well. Through observation and formative test, it seemed that the students liked and enjoyed speaking narrative. It could be seen from their achievement improved from cycle to cycle and from their test results. In conclusion, the students’ speaking ability can be improved if they know what and how to speak, and the use of the appropriate teaching media is very important. One of teaching aids that can be used to enhance students’ ability in speaking narrative is picture series. It is suggested to English teachers to use picture series in teaching speaking narrative. Keywords        : speaking, narrative, picture series

Abstract

GAYA KEPEMIMPINAN TRANSFORMASIONAL KEPALA PONDOK PESANTREN KAUMAN PADANG PANJANG DALAM MENINGKATKAN PRESTASI SISWA DAN MUTU PESANTREN Fitra Murni AR Guru SMAN 3 Padang Panjang e-mail: fitramurniar@gmail.com ABSTRAK: : Gaya kepemimpinan transformasional merupakan cara efektif pimpinan lembaga pendidikan untuk meningkatkan prestasi siswa dan mutu pendidikan. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk gaya kepemimpinan transformasional kepala Pondok Pesantren Kauman Padang Panjang dalam meningkatkan prestasi siswa dan mutu pesantren. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam bentuk studi kasus. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kepala sekolah di Pondok Pesantren Kauman Padang Panjang. Instrumen penelitian yaitu wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemimpin pondok pesantren yang transformasional terlihat dari beberapa karakteristik yaitu Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intelektual Stimulation, dan Individualized Consideration. Prinsip-prinsip yang harus dimiliki oleh pimpinan pondok pesantren dalam menerapkan gaya kepemimpinan transformasional yaitu simplikasi, motivasi, fasilitasi, inovasi, mobilisasi, siaga dan tekad. Kata Kunci: Gaya Kepemimpinan Transformasional, Pondok Pesantren, Prestasi Siswa, Mutu Pesantren Abstract: Transformational leadership style is an effective way for educational institution leaders to improve student achievement and quality of education. Therefore, this study aims at the transformational leadership style of the head of Pondok Pesantren Kauman Padang Panjang in improving student achievement and the quality of the pesantren. The methodology used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method in the form of a case study. The sample of this research is the principal at the Pondok Pesantren Kauman Padang Panjang. The research instruments are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that transformational boarding school leaders can be seen from several characteristics, namely Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intellectual Stimulation, and Individualized Consideration The principles that must be possessed by Islamic boarding school leaders in implementing a transformational leadership style are simplification, motivation, facilitation, innovation, mobilization, alert and determination. Abstract

Kualitas dalam pendidikan sangat mempengaruhi kemajuan suatu negara. Guru merupakan komponen yang paling besar pengaruhnya dalam kualitas dunia pendidikan di Indonesia. Usaha dalam meningkatkan kinerja guru merupakan suatu kewajiban yang harus dilaksanakan oleh pemerintah. Salah satu solusi dalam meningkatkan kinerja seorang guru adalah dengan menjalankan program supervisi akademik, dengan adanya supervisi ini, kita dapat melihat sampai mana tahap perkembangan guru. Setelah dilaksanakannnya program supervisi akademik, tentu pemerintah harus melaksanakan evaluasi dalam program tersebut. Salah satu model yang dapat digunakan dalam melakukan evaluasi supervisi adalah menggunakan model Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM). Berdasarkan keterangan tersebut, peneliti tertarik menganalisis bagaimana evaluasi program supervisi akademik dengan Discrepancy Evaluation Model (Dem) untuk meningkatkan kinerja guru. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kajian pustaka yang menggunakan data primer dan data sekunder untuk membantu penelitian ini. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan teori yang ada, dapat disimpulkan bahwa evaluasi program supervisi akademik menggunakan model Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM) dapat memperlihatkan bahwa terdapat kesenjangan atau tidaknya antara program supervisi akademik yang seharusnya dengan yang telah tercapai. Program supervisi akademik akan mempengaruhi kinerja guru dalam mengajar. Hal ini terlihat dari teori- teori yang didapatkan yang kesimpulannya dapat dikatakan bahwa kinerja guru juga dipengaruhi oleh kegiatan program supervisi.
