Abstract

BACKGROUNDHypertension is the main cause of morbidity and mortality associated with cardiovascular diseases. Many herbs/spices appear to have significant effects in favorably modulating high blood pressure. A jamu formulation containing 6 plant extracts, Formula Jamu Antihipertensi (FJA), has been described previously. This research study aimed to evaluate the effect of FJA as antihypertensive agent in mild to moderate hypertensive patients. METHODSThis double-blind experimental study was conducted in 40 hypertensive patients, who were randomized into two groups. The first group was treated with oral administration of 2 g FJA and the second group 25 mg captopril daily for 4 weeks. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as liver and kidney function were followed up every week. Independent- t test and two-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data with a level of significance of 0.05.RESULTSThe results showed that after the treatment, FJA and captopril were capable of significantly decreasing systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p <0.05). The decrease in systolic blood pressure between the two groups was identical (p>0.05), while the decrease in diastolic blood pressure was greater in the FJA group than in the captopril group (p <0.05). CONCLUSIONFrom this study it may be concluded that administration of FJA for 4 weeks is equally effective as captopril in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with mild and moderate hypertension. Thus, natural plants and herbs can be our source of drugs, with fewer side effects and better bioavailability for treatment of hypertension in the future.

Abstract

Hiperkolesterolemia mengakibatkan terjadinya peningkatan produksi ROS yang menimbulkan stress oksidatif dengan peningkatan Lipid Peroksidase (LPO) yang menyebabkan infertilitas dengan penurunan kadar testoteron. Kondisi ini dapat dinetralkan dengan mengkonsumsi antioksidan dari luar tubuh seperti N-Acetylcysteine (NAC). Untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian NAC terhadap hormon testoteron yang diberi diet tinggi kolesterol. Penelitian ekperimental dengan pendekatan post test only control group design. Subyek penelitian berjumlah 24 ekor tikus jantan galur sparague dawley yang dibagi secara acak menjadi 4 kelompok. Kelompok K1 tanpa pemberian NAC dan diet tinggi kolesterol. Kelompok K2 tanpa pemberian NAC namun diberi diet tinggi kolesterol. Kelompok K3 dan K4 diberi diet tinggi kolesterol dan NAC masing-masing dengan dosis 3,14 mg/ml dan 6,3 mg/ml. Hari ke 25 dilakukan pengambilan darah untuk pemeriksaan kadar testoteron di IBL FK UNISSULA pada November - Desember 2020. Uji One Way Anova menunjukkan perbedaan bermakna pada kadar testoteron menunjukkan perbedaan bermakna (p=0,021). Hasil uji Post Hoc Tukey kadar testoteron pada K1 dan K4 menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan terhadap K2 (p<0,05). Pemberian NAC menunjukan secara bermakna dapat meningkatkan kadar hormon testoteron yang diberi diet tinggi kolesterol.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: SARS-CoV-2 merupakan virus penyebab COVID-19. Peran penanda inflamasi cukup besar dalam menilai perjalanan penyakit COVID-19, salah satunya Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) dan Acute Lymphosit Account (ALC) yang menggabungkan neutrofil sebagai komponen inflamasi aktif serta limfosit sebagai regulator dan komponen protektif dalam satu kesatuan parameter. Penelitian mengenai hubungan antara NLR dan ALC dengan mortalitas pasien rawat inap COVID-19 masih terbatas. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara NLR dan ALC dengan mortalitas pasien COVID-19 yang dirawat inap di RSI Sultan Agung Semarang.Metode: Penelitian observasional analitik dengan desain kohort retrospektif dengan subjek sebanyak 153 orang pasien COVID-19 yang dirawat inap di RSI Sultan Agung Semarang pada bulan Mei - Agustus 2021. Data diperoleh melalui pencatatan dari rekam medis. Data berskala kategorik dan diuji dengan metode korelasi spearman menggunakan aplikasi SPSS versi 22.Hasil: Didapatkan rerata nilai NLR pasien COVID19 yang sembuh adalah 3,17 dan yang meninggal adalah 14,4. Rerata nilai ALC pasien COVID-19 di RSI Sultan Agung Semarang yang sembuh adalah 2200 /µL dan yang meninggal 1158 /µL. Hasil analisis menunjukkan nilai p = 0,001 dengan nilai r = 0,59 untuk hubungan antara nilai NLR dengan mortalitas pasien COVID dan r = 0,261 untuk hubungan antara nilai ALC dengan mortalitas pasien COVID-19.Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menunjukan terdapat hubungan bermakna antara nilai NLR dan ALC dengan mortalitas pasien rawat inap COVID-19 di RSI Sultan Agung Semarang.

Abstract

Diagnosis dini dan akurat infeksi SARS-CoV-2 sangat penting untuk pencegahan dan pengendalian pandemi. Heterogenitas presentasi klinis, dari individu tanpa gejala hingga kasus yang parah, dan keragaman yang relevan dari manifestasi klinis non-spesifik COVID-19, memperkuat kebutuhan akan tes komplementer dengan sensitivitas dan spesifisitas yang baik. Hasil tes diagnostik memiliki implikasi serius, yaitu kemungkinan kontaminasi anggota keluarga. Pemeriksaan laboratorium COVID-19 yang tersedia saat ini yaitu tes antigen dan PCR. Pada kondisi pandemi, setiap orang memiliki kemungkinan telah melakukan setidaknya satu tes COVID-19. Namun tidak banyak masyarakat umum yang mengetahui jenis tes yang dilakukan, kekuatan, dan kelemahan dari tes yang bermacam-macam ini. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menambah pengetahuan para warga desa sehingga dapat menerapkan protokol kesehatan dengan benar sebagai upaya pencegahan dan pengendalian pandemi. Edukasi dilakukan pada kelompok usia dewasa hingga lansia masyarakat di Desa Sambiroto Semarang. Penyampaian materi edukasi meliputi jenis pemeriksaan laboratorium untuk mendiagnosis COVID-19. Adanya kegiatan edukasi ini membuat peserta memiliki tambahan pengetahuan terkait jenis pemeriksaan laboratorium dalam mendiagnosis COVID-19. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan disimpulkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan dan pemahaman peserta terkait dengan jenis pemeriksaan laboratorium untuk mendiagnosis COVID-19.Early and accurate diagnosis of SARS-COV-2 infection is essential for pandemic prevention and control. Heterogeneity of clinical presentations, from individual symptoms to severe cases, and the relevant diversity of non-specific clinical manifestations of COVID-19, strengthening the need for complementary tests with good sensitivity and specificity. Diagnostic test results have serious implications, that is the possibility of family members contamination. COVID-19 laboratory examination available today is an antigen and PCR test. In the pandemic conditions, everyone has the possibility of having done at least one COVID-19 test. But not many common people know the type of tests, the strengths, and weaknesses of this assassination test. These community service activities aim to add to the knowledge of villagers to apply the health protocol properly as a pandemic prevention and control. Education is performed in an adult age group to the elderly of society in the village of Sambiroto Semarang. The delivery of educational materials includes a type of laboratory examination to diagnose COVID-19. The existence of this educational activity makes the participants have additional knowledge related to the type of laboratory examination in diagnosing COVID-19. Based on the results of the activity, there is an increase in the knowledge and understanding of participants related to the type of laboratory examination to diagnose COVID-19.

Abstract

There has been more research on the iron supplementation. Date juice has been shown to be rich in iron. It has been reported to increase the hemoglobin level in rats. Few studies has been conducted on the effect of date juice on the hemoglobin level in male white Wistar rats fed low iron diet.This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of (Phoenix dactylifera) juice on haemoglobin level in iron supplemented rats. In this experimental study using post test control group design, 24 male white Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups. G-I served as the control group (standard diet and aquadest). G II was given the low Fe diet and aquadest for 21 d. G-III,IV were given the low fe diet and aquadest plus date juice at the concentration of 50%, 100% respectively. The treatment was given for 14 days. Spectrophotometer was used to assess the haemoglobin level of rats. One way anova followed by Post Hoc LSD was applied for the data analysis. Mean of hemoglobin (g/dl) level for the four groups were 12,03, 7.72, 9.25, 10.35 respectively. Test resulted in p<0.05. Post Hoc LSD test resulted in a significant different between K-I and G-II, G-III, G-IV ;G-II and G-III, G-IV ;G-III and G-IV. In conclusion, date juice increases the haemoglobin level in male white rats fed on the low fe diet.

Abstract

Juice of dates (Phoenix dactylifera) is widely used to reduce the risk of spontaneous bleeding by shorting the bleeding time, for example on hemorrhargic fever and the consequence of consuming drugs (e.g. aspirin, anti coagulant, anti cancer, diuretic, etc). This study aimed to investigate the effect of dates juice on the bleeding time of male Wistar strain rats that induced by aspirin. This study was experimental research with post test only control group design. In this study, 10 male Wistar strain rats were randomly divided into 2 groups. The first group (positive control) were only treated by aspirin and the second group (treatment group) were treated by aspirin and palm dates juice. Mean of the bleeding time in first group was 42,6 + 11,5 seconds and in second group was 28,0 + 3,0 seconds. Distribution of data was normal but not homogenous, so that data was analyzed by non parametric statistic test Mann-Whitney. The result showed that there was significant difference between the first and the second group. This study concluded that juice of dates affects the bleeding time of male Wistar strain rats that induced by aspirin.
