Abstract

This study is to see increasing vocabulary mastery of the first-year students of SMP Negeri 3 Pamboang through concept mapping strategy. The problems in this research are using concept mapping strategy able to increase students’ vocabulary in the first-year students of SMP Negeri 3 Pamboang. This study aimed to know the students' responses toward concept mapping strategy in increasing vocabulary and to find out whether there is a significant increase of students’ vocabulary achievement as a result of using concept mapping strategy. This study employed a quantitative research design which is a case study using pre-experimental design which applied (one group pre-test and post-test design). The study found out that there was an improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery after giving the learning process by using concept mapping strategy. It can be concluded that the students’vocabulary mastery is significantly better after getting the treatment. This study also provides a set of recommendation to avoid overlapped researches in education technology.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the Students learning startegy and motivation in developing the students’ speakin gability at six thse mester of English department (IAIN Parepare).The researcher was applying at six thse mester of English department (IAIN Parepare) through had escriptive qualitati veresearch. This research were using three kinds of instruments. The first instrument wastest, where the purpose of this instrument was to know the student tabilityin speaking. The second was interview, the aim of this instrument was to know what strategy that the student use to develop their speaking. The last was question naire, where this instrument was to know the motivation of the student in order to develop their speaking. After analyzing the data from the question naire the research erfound that students in the high andlow category have the same strong motivation in developing their speaking. However, interms of using strategy, the students in high category use more variated strategies than thelow category. The students in high category mostly apply cognitive and metacognitive strategy while the students in low cataegory mostly used social strategy.

Abstract

Intensive speaking is drills or repetitions focusing on specific phonological or grammatical points, such as minimal pairs or repetition of a series of imperative sentences, where learners are going over to practice some phonological or grammatical aspect of language. Cooperative script learning model is a learning where students work in pairs and take turns verbally summarizing the parts of the material being studied.The purpose of this research was to know the difference students’ intensive speaking skill before and after using cooperative script learning model atSMK DDI Parepare.The samples of this research were 23 students from XI TKJ (Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan) class and XI PMR (Bisnis Daring danPemasaran) class. The researcher used cluster sampling technique to decide the sample.The researcher used pre-experimental design in one group was given pre-test, treatment and post-test design.To collect the data, the researcher used tests that are pre-test and post-test. The researcher also gave observation.The result in this research was indicated that there was the improvement of the students’ intensive speaking skill. It was indicated by the students’ mean score of post-test (7) was greater than pre-test (5.5). Even, for the level significant (p) 5 % and df = 21, and the value of table is 1.721, while the value of t-test is 12.5. It means that the t-test value is greater than t-table (12.5 1.721). Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ intensive speaking skill is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.

Abstract

The objective of the this research are to find the type of code mixing, code switching user which using two languages of english eduaction department at IAIN Parepare. This reserach will answer these main question : what kinds of code mixing and code switching used in instagram, what are the functions of code mixing and code switching used instagram. This reserach used qualitative approach, it used content analysis the data it was from students status posted mei until october 2020 the researcher collected the data by using documentation and observation cheklist the data was anaylzed the types of code mixing based poplack theory, code switching based suwito theory, analyzed what function of code mixing and code swithing on students instagram based on marasigan theory, and analyzed what reason of code mixing and code switching on students instagram based on hoffman theory.The result showed that the analysis the total data 14 unit of analysis of code switching, all three types found that 9 data (42,9%) used inter-sentential switching. It showed that inter-sentential switching is commonly use on students instagram. The type had found 3 insertion of words (14,3%). Based on the data, students status on instagram commonly used insertion of word and insertion of phrase to mix the code. The researcher found functions that used by students on instagram in order to perform both code mixing and code switching, facility expression (F7) 8 data or (38,1%). Abstract

The aim of this reserch is to discuss the affxation of vernacular Indonesia as general lay and specially the vernacullar of Benteng Pinrang society. In Benteng Pinrang use Buginess language pattinjo dialect. This dialect is different with other because this dialect is combination of Enrekang Language and Buginess Pinrang dialect. It is called assimilation. This research used descriptive method which is mean to give description about the cause of Benteng society use Pattinjo dialect. In this research, the researcher use qualitative research as design of this research. Qualitative is the collection, analysis, and interpretation of comprehensive and visual (non numerical) data. Qualitative research is the collection analysis and interpretation of comprehensive. Source of data this research is the native speaker of pattinjo dialect who live in Benteng Pinrang Parepare. Based on observation of the researcher in Benteng Pinrang most the people used native language in communication and interaction with other people. The native language of Benteng society is Bugis language dialect pattinjo. Bugis Language dialect pattinjo happen because there is assimilation between Bugis language and Enrekang Language

Abstract

This study aims to describe the kinds of online English learning assessment and the challenges of English teachers in online learning assessment. This research applied a qualitative descriptive as the research design. In collecting the data, the researcher applied interviews and documentation. They are knowledge assessment, skill assessment, and student’s attitude assessment. The online assessment and offline assessment was similar. The difference was the interaction, place, media and the way to take and give the students’ task because all the process through online. In online learning assessment the most challenging was students’ attitude assessment because the teacher difficult to control the students’ honesty, responsibility, students’ creativity, and students’ collaboration. The result of this research also showed the English teacher face some challange in online English learning assessment such as students’ behavior, Students’ less understanding of material, Facilities problems and scoring system.

Abstract

As commonly known, the use of video in English Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms can facilitate the students to get more interested in learning and also enhance their communicative competences. This study aims to find out the effect of using video as teaching media in English class towards students’ achievement and obstacles in using it. It is designed in experimental study. The result of pre-test and post-test did not show significant differences although students’ scores increased. However, the result of observation showed students’ improvement in attitudes. They are motivated in learning through videos. They show positive attitudes although they undergo some obstacles in accessing the video outside the classroom namely internet-related problem such as sudden disconnected internet, running out internet data, as well as scheduled time for using handphone at school day. Besides, discussing the lesson from video in group chat of whatsapp is ineffective since they cannot follow the flow the information, since too many chats sent at the same time into group. However, the implementation of using video in this study can be implemented, since the learning activities were very enjoyable by using some techniques presented in this study.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to design English material for vocational school to make the students proficient in both spoken, written, and prepare students to work in the field soon after graduating. There are some factors which have to be considered such teachers, media, and material. Materials take an important part in the process of teaching-learning. The material also helps the students to practice and give them exposure. Research design is Educational Research and Development (R&D). It is adapted from industry-based development model in which the results of the research will be taken to create new products or procedures. The subjects of this research were eleventh-grade students of fishery major in Vocational School Negeri Rea Timur academic year of 2019/2020. All the students were involved as the research subject, the class consisted of 20 students. There are 4 English teachers in Vocational School Negeri Rea Timur two civil servants and the other honorary teachers. The result of this research that most students of fishery study major at Vocational school Rea Timur (50%) use English only to read texts in English coursebook, worksheet and other learning sources. (17%) them to read the texts beyond English lessons such as advertisement, magazine, newspaper. (13%) of them to read the texts beyond English lessons such as advertisement, magazine, newspaper. Only a few of them use English as a means to read texts in English coursebook, worksheet and other learning sources (8%).

Abstract

This research is aimed at investigating the implementation of autonomous learning. Autonomous learning consists of three aspects: self-planning, self-monitoring, and self-evaluating. This research is a use a mixed-method sequential explanatory design. The subject of the research is 24 students of the first grade students of junior high school. The writer observed the classroom, and also gave a set of questionnaire to the students to find out whether they are an autonomous learner or not. The result showed that in self-planning aspect, 56.83% students are self-planned; they are categorized into “poor”. In self-monitoring aspect, 81.85% students are self-monitored; they are categorized into “good”. In self-evaluating aspect, 62.53% students are self-evaluated; they are categorized into “fair”. So, the students got good category in self-monitoring aspect, whereas for self-planning and self-evaluating must be improved.
