Abstract

God created Indonesia with a tropical climate that is very appropriate to support the development of straw mushroom cultivation (Volvariella volvaceae). One of the stages of mushroom cultivation sequentially is pasteurization. This study aims to determine the effect of pasteurization stages, the accuracy of the pasteurization temperature, and the factors that influence the growth of straw mushrooms. The method in this study was carried out using livestock manure, with a composition of 400 gr goat manure and 500 gr rabbit manure. The pasteurization stage is maintained at a temperature of 60-700C with a humidity of 80-90%. The watering interval at the observation stage was 4 days with a frequency of 40% in experiment 1 and every day or a frequency of 100% in experiment 2. The results showed that the pasteurization stage was very influential on the mushroom growing media. Inaccuracy in pasteurization resulted in many weeds that thrived, thus inhibiting the growth of straw mushrooms. The optimal temperature in the pasteurization stage is 60-900C. The factors that influence the growth of mushroom are the selection of materials as fertilizers for mushroom cultivation, temperature, humidity include interval and frequency of watering, pasteurization process, weeding the contaminants, and time of observation.

Abstract

Hoya species are a type of epiphytic flowering plants that are known to have traditional medicinal values. Since 2011, eight Hoya species are recorded at the Bodogol Nature-Conservation Education Center (BNCEC), Bogor, Indonesia. For effective conservation measures, this study is aimed to analyze the population structure and distribution pattern of Hoya species at BNCEC. Data collection was done from July to August 2016 using a  purposive sampling method in a 400m2 plot. The results show that each species differed in their population structures. The H. multiflora population structure has the shape of an inverted pyramid, where there were more adult individuals than seedling and young ones, both H. campanulata and H. imperialis have the shape of a natural population pyramid, showing a population balance between seedling, young, and adult individuals. H. lacunosa has the shape of an hourglass, in which the number of seedlings and adult individuals is larger than the young. H. hasseltii and H. vitellinoides have no clear population structures as no adult individuals were discovered for these two species. The distribution pattern of Hoya populations at BNCEC is of the clumped type (Morisita’s index = 0.661).

Abstract

Background: Katokkon is a local red pepper that is widely cultivated in the North Toraja Regency and several surrounding areas within the scope of South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. This pepper has a spicy taste and a unique fruit shape like paprika in small size and is rich in nutrients such as ascorbic acid, carotenoids, and capsaicin so that it benefits human health and serves as one of the commodities that improve the people's economy. Katokkon pepper is adapted to grow well in upland areas so that cultivation outside this habitat requires certain efforts to be optimal. Seed germination is an important step in plant cultivation. Coconut water and shallots extract were commonly used as sources of growth regulators substances to stimulate seed germination. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of natural growth regulators substances on the Katokkon pepper seed germination. Methods: This study was conducted by a factorial randomized block design with two factors and three replications. The Katokkon pepper seeds were soaked in the 25%, 50%, and 75% of coconut water and shallots solution for 24 hours. Results: The treatment of coconut water with a concentration of 75% (ZAK3) has a significant effect on the percentage and speed of seed germination of Katokkon pepper. Conclusions: The greater concentration of natural growth regulators used, the greater the percentage of seed germination obtained. However, the effect of coconut water treatment on seed germination of Katokkon pepper was more significant than the shallots extract.

Abstract

The development of technology has driven progress in various aspects of human life, especially in the field of education. However, this progress is not always accompanied by significant developments in morality. Various student behaviours related to the use of digital technology indicate the degradation of character and morals. In addition, the phenomenon of relativity makes the problem of morality increase complexity. This makes the importance of building character and moral education based on the truth of God as a source of true moral character. This paper intends to study the importance of Christian ethics in character and moral education in the digital age by literature. The Christian ethical philosophy is a philosophical basis that builds character and moral education based on the character of Christ. This character exists to restore and transform students to living in Christ. So, the concept of Christian ethical philosophy is important to be the philosophical underlying foundation of character and moral education. Suggests that, philosophical of the concept of Christian ethics needs to be realized in character education. Parents with educators collaborate in the monitoring of children's character.
