Abstract

This study aims to know the effect of learning style on the biology learning achievement of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampolawa. This type of research is ex post facto through a quantitative descriptive approach. The sampling technique is saturated sampling. The sample in the study amounted to 80 students. Research data were obtained through questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis technique is descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistics through a simple linear regression test. The results showed that descriptively the learning style tendencies owned by class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampolawa were 23 students with Diverging learning styles with a percentage of 28.8%, Assimilating as many as 20 students with a percentage of 25.0%, Converging as many as 19 students with the percentage are 23.8%. The Accommodating is 18 students with a percentage of 22.5%. Based on the results of the inferential analysis, a significance value of 0.003 was obtained, which was smaller than the value of equal to 0.05, meaning that David Kolb’s learning style had a positive and significant effect on students' learning achievement in biology.

Abstract

Abstrak: Perkembangan dunia teknologi digital dan internet semakin mendorong lahirnya berbagai inovasi untuk mempermudah aktivitas manusia.  Gadget sebagai produk inovasi digital mampu mengahdirkan berbagai aplikasi atau fitur-fitur menyenangkan telah menjadi daya tarik tersendiri bagi penggunanya karena memberikan banyak kemudahan untuk menunjang aktivitas sehari-hari.  Gadget seperti mata uang yang memiliki dua sisi, satu sisi memberikan pengaruh positif namun disisi lain memberikan pengaruh negatif. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengedukasi siswa tentang pemanfaatan gadget terutama sebagai media dan sumber dalam pembelajaran.  Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan dan perencanaan, pelaksanaan serta evaluasi dan diikuti oleh 21 orang siswa sebagai peserta.  Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pengetahuan dan pemahaman kepada siswa tentang manfaat gadget dalam pembelajaran.  Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman siswa dari 45 % menjadi 93 % tentang pemanfaatan gadget sebagai media dan sumber pembelajaran. Hal ini terlihat dari tingginya antusisme siswa dalam menjawab pertanyaan yang diberikan pemateri diakhir kegiatan.  Secara keseluruhan kegiatan pengabdian yang dilaksanakan berjalan dengan baik dan lancar sesuai dengan yang diharapkan.Abstract:  The development of the world of digital technology and the internet increasingly encourages the birth of various innovations to facilitate human activities. Gadgets as digital innovation products capable of delivering more applications or fun features have become a specific attraction for users because they provide many conveniences to support daily activities. Gadgets are like a currency that has two sides, positive and negative effects. The activities aim to educate students about the benefit of gadgets as media and resources in learning. This activity consists of three-step, namely preparation and planning, implementation and evaluation, and followed by 21 students as participants. This activity hopes to give knowledge and comprehension to students about the benefits of gadgets in learning. Results of this activity showed an increased understanding of students from 45% to 90% of the use of gadgets as media and learning resources. It is emerged by the high enthusiasm of students in answering questions given by the speaker at the end of the activity. Overal the service activities carried out went well and smoothly as expected.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between scientific literacy and students' critical thinking skills in biology science material in junior high schools. The research used a quantitative correlation method. The subjects in this study were the students in the eighth grade of junior high school SMPN 9 Buton consisted of 68 people. The research instrument was in the form of multiple choice questions to measure scientific literacy skills and essay questions to measure students' critical thinking skills. The research data obtained were then analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics through the product-moment correlation test. Results of descriptive statistics show that literacy science and student critical thinking there in four criteria excellent, good, enough, and low. The inferential statistic analysis results show that the significance value of the correlation between scientific literacy and critical thinking skills is 0.001 less than the alpha value of 0.05. Based on the results can be concluded there is a positive and significant correlation between scientific literacy and students' critical thinking skills in the circulatory system material.

Abstract

Natural science is a subject that in the study requires a laboratory as a means of learning. The facts obtained are that there are still students who do not understand that the implementation of laboratory practicum can not only perform indoors (closed laboratory) but in an environment known as a natural laboratory. The method of community service activities carried out is socialization. Learning by utilizing the environment is very important to perform because the surrounding provides various things that students can study and can increase real student experience because it is very thick with everyday life. The evaluation result of understanding regarding the use of the environment as a natural laboratory showed that 83% (15 students) were in the excellent category, 11% (2 students) were in enough category and 6% (1 student) were in the poor category. These results indicate that most students have good knowledge about the advantage of the environment as a natural laboratory in learning.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the six skills (6C) that must have by students to face competition in the 21st century. Guided inquiry is one of the learning models that can be used to increase students' critical thinking skills in biology learning. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the enforcement of the guided inquiry model, especially on students' critical thinking skills in biology learning based on the effect size value in terms of education level. This research method is a meta-analysis method. The research sample taken from 12 national articles consists of seven journals at the high school level and five journals at the junior high school level. The results showed that the guided inquiry model was effectively used both at the high school and junior high school levels because it was proven to have a forceful impact on students' critical thinking skills in biology learning with an average effect size value of 1.651 (strong effect). Based on the level of education, the enforcement of the guided inquiry model at the high school level has a higher impact on student's critical thinking skills with an effect size value of 1.866 (strong effect) than at the junior high school level with an effect size value of 1.435 (strong effect). This guided inquiry model needs to be applied more broadly so that more students have critical thinking skills and ready to compete in the global world.Abstrak Keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu dari 6 kecakapan (6C) yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa agar dapat menghadapi persaingan di abad 21. Inkuiri terbimbing menjadi salah satu model pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan model inkuiri terbimbing khususnya terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi berdasarkan nilai besarnya efek ditinjau dari jenjang pendidikan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah meta analisis. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 12 artikel yang terdiri dari 7 jurnal pada jenjang SMA dan 5 jurnal pada jenjang SMP. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model inkuiri terbimbing efektif digunakan baik pada jenjang SMA maupun SMP karena terbukti dapat memberikan pengaruh yang sangat kuat terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi dengan nilai rerata besaran efek sebesar 1.651 (efek kuat). Berdasarkan jenjang pendidikan, penerapan model inquiry terbimbing pada tingkat SMA memiliki pengaruh yang lebih besar terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dengan nilai besaran efek sebesar 1.866 (efek kuat) dibanding ditingkat SMP dengan nilai besaran efek sebesar 1.435 (efek kuat). Model inkuiri terbimbing ini perlu diterapkan secara lebih luas agar lebih banyak peserta didik yang memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis dan siap bersaing di dunia global.

Abstract

Writing is part of the basic literacy that must have students face the challenges of the 21st century. Scientific work is writing that contains a review/study using scientific principles to discuss a particular problem. The students must understand very well the methodology for preparing scientific papers to produce the best scientific papers. Community service activities are carried out in the form of training with the theme of training in scientific writing techniques attended by FKIP students of Buton Muslim University totaling 30 participants from two study programs, namely Biology Education and Elementary School Teacher Education. Overall, the implementation of community service activities with the theme of training in scientific writing techniques went well and smoothly as expected. PKM activities show results that 90% of participants have a great understanding of scientific writing techniques, and 10% of participants are in enough category.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the implementation of PAIKEM learning based on Buton PO5 local wisdom on students' character and critical thinking abilities in realizing independent learning. The type of research used was a Quasi Experiment with a Single Factor Independent Group Design which involved a research sample of 39 students selected at random. Research data was collected using test and non-test methods and analyzed using Anava A and Manova analysis. Based on the results of the Anova A analysis, the value of Fcount (32.852) ≥ Ftable (4.105) at a significance level of 5%, this shows that H1 is accepted. And the results of the Manova analysis show that the value of Fcount (38.960) with sig 0.001 < 0.05, which means that Ho is rejected and H1 accepted, this proves that there are simultaneous differences in the character and critical thinking abilities of students who take part in PAIKEM learning based on Buton PO5 local wisdom and students who take part in conventional learning.

Abstract

Processed food with an attractive appearance which is often sold by traders in the school environment is a special attraction for students to consume, including at SD Negeri 1 Bandar Batauga.  The large number of cases of health problems such as poisoning due to children consuming food and snacks sold in the area around the school without knowing whether the food is good for consumption or not is the basis for this activity to be carried out.  The service activity aims to educate elementary school-age children about healthy and nutritious food and snacks for consumption in the form of education which consists of four stages, namely observation, implementation of activities (education), evaluation, and reporting of activity results.  This activity took place at SD Negeri 1 Bandar Batauga and was attended by 22 students.  Service activities in the form of education have a positive influence on students' understanding and knowledge about healthy and nutritious food preparations. This is based on the results of activity evaluations which show that 81% of participants are in the good category (understand), 14% are in the sufficient category (somewhat understand) and 5 % are categorized as lacking (lack of understanding).  Overall, service activities run in accordance with the stated objectives.
