Abstract

The quality of science learning in the science field is still low. This study aims to determine the effect of the scientific approach on students' communication skills and understanding of concepts related to pollution materials. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design with only control groups. The study population consisted of all seventh-grade students at the SMP Negeri 9 Buton enrolled in the even-numbered semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The study sample consisted of 45 students. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. A multiple-choice test served as an instrument for examining the communication skills and understanding of the students' concepts. Research data is analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The results showed that a scientific approach had a positive and significant impact on students' communication skills and understanding of pollution concepts. Key words: Scientific approach, Communication skills, Understanding of concept Abstrak Mutu pembelajaran IPA pada bidang sains masih rendah.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendekatan saintifik terhadap keterampilan komunikasi dan pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi pencemaran lingkungan.  Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain pretes-postest only control group design.  Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Buton yang terdaftar pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2021/2022.  Sampel penelitian berjumlah 45 siswa.  Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah simple random sampling.  Instrument penelitian keterampilan komunikasi dan pemahaman konsep siswa yang digunakan berupa tes dalam bentuk pilihan ganda.  Data hasil penelitian diolah secara deskriptif dan inferensial.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat pendekatan saintifik berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keterampilan komunikasi dan pemahaman konsep siswa materi pencemaran lingkungan. Abstract

This study aims to know the influence of the guided inquiry model on the concept understanding of ecosystem material for class X students of SMAN 10 Kendari. kind of this research is quasi-experiment research with the research design being the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The research sample amounted to 52 students who were divided into 2 groups, namely the experimental class group and the control class group. The research instrument used was an objective test in the form of multiple choice (Multiple Choice Item Test). The results of the descriptive analysis show that there is an increase in the value of understanding the concepts taught by the guided inquiry model and direct learning. The increase in the value of understanding the concepts of students who are taught using the guided inquiry model is 32.24 and indirect learning is 27.77. The results of the inferential analysis show that the significance value obtained is 0.014 which is smaller than the alpha value equal to 0.05 so it can be concluded that the application of the guided inquiry model has a positive and significant impact on students' understanding of the concept of ecosystem material.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the six skills (6C) that must have by students to face competition in the 21st century. Guided inquiry is one of the learning models that can be used to increase students' critical thinking skills in biology learning. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the enforcement of the guided inquiry model, especially on students' critical thinking skills in biology learning based on the effect size value in terms of education level. This research method is a meta-analysis method. The research sample taken from 12 national articles consists of seven journals at the high school level and five journals at the junior high school level. The results showed that the guided inquiry model was effectively used both at the high school and junior high school levels because it was proven to have a forceful impact on students' critical thinking skills in biology learning with an average effect size value of 1.651 (strong effect). Based on the level of education, the enforcement of the guided inquiry model at the high school level has a higher impact on student's critical thinking skills with an effect size value of 1.866 (strong effect) than at the junior high school level with an effect size value of 1.435 (strong effect). This guided inquiry model needs to be applied more broadly so that more students have critical thinking skills and ready to compete in the global world.Abstrak Keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu dari 6 kecakapan (6C) yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa agar dapat menghadapi persaingan di abad 21. Inkuiri terbimbing menjadi salah satu model pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penerapan model inkuiri terbimbing khususnya terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi berdasarkan nilai besarnya efek ditinjau dari jenjang pendidikan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah meta analisis. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 12 artikel yang terdiri dari 7 jurnal pada jenjang SMA dan 5 jurnal pada jenjang SMP. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan model inkuiri terbimbing efektif digunakan baik pada jenjang SMA maupun SMP karena terbukti dapat memberikan pengaruh yang sangat kuat terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran biologi dengan nilai rerata besaran efek sebesar 1.651 (efek kuat). Berdasarkan jenjang pendidikan, penerapan model inquiry terbimbing pada tingkat SMA memiliki pengaruh yang lebih besar terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dengan nilai besaran efek sebesar 1.866 (efek kuat) dibanding ditingkat SMP dengan nilai besaran efek sebesar 1.435 (efek kuat). Model inkuiri terbimbing ini perlu diterapkan secara lebih luas agar lebih banyak peserta didik yang memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis dan siap bersaing di dunia global.
