Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest potential and production of vannamei shrimp (Litopenaues vannamei) in the world. Therefore, the government continues to improve theactivity of vannamei shrimp farming continuously. This study aimed to determine whether the water quality of the waters in Larangan Glintong Village, Bangkalan-Madura, East Java was suitable for vannamei shrimp farming activities. Water quality was one of the keys for successful vannamei shrimp farming since it could affect the metabolism, reproduction, osmoregulation and stress of the organism. The parameter water quality used in this study was salinity, temperature, and pH. This research was a water quality survey that was carried out for three months (March-May). The result showed that the average water salinity was 30.5 ppt. The average DO and brightness showed 7.02 mg/l and 30.69 cm. The average temperature at there was 29.41oC while the pH valued showed 8.13. The It could be concluded from water quality aspect that pond in Larangan Glintong Village, Bangkalan-Madura could be used for vannamei aquaculture development.

Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is one of the leading fishery commodities in Indonesia. Therefore, many people cultivate catfish, including the members of the Tambak Wedi Catfish Farmers Association (PPL), in Tambak Wedi, Surabaya. Located in the city of Surabaya, the limited water availability encourages catfish aquaculture to be conducted in urban aquaculture. However, pathogen infection became a challenge for PPL Tambak Wedi. The pathogen caused losses for catfish farmers in Wedi Pond. This causes the turnover of farmers to decrease and they have to close the aquaponics pond. One solution that can be done is giving biofloc. Biofloc has 3 main functions, namely improving water quality, as an additional feed ingredient for cultivated organisms and suppressing pathogens. The implementation of this activity consists of three stages, namely: (1) building an experimental pond and sites for catfish farming, (2) the extension and demonstration and (3) the application of biofloc in catfish farming. From this activity, it was found that previously members of the Tambak Wedi Catfish Farmer Association in Surabaya City, East Java, had already applied biofloc but experienced problems so that they were not continued. After this service activity, the cultivators were motivated to re-apply biofloc for their cultivation business.

Abstract

The research aimed to assess the performance of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) hormone injection combined with vitamin mix to induce the rematuration of Striped catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus broodstock. Three PMSG and HCG treatments of 5 and 2,5 IU; 10 and 5 IU;also 20 and 10 IU/kg of broodstock body weight dosage combined with vitamin mix addition to fish feed and one control was used with four replications. The broodstock was reared for four weeks and weekly sampling for GR and SGR as well as hormone injection were performed. For the following two weeks, the broodstock was observed for maturation. Artificial spawning was conducted for broodstock reaching gonadal maturity. Statistic analysis of observed variables showed insignificant differences among the three treatments in rematuration parameters. The rematuration rate resulted in a 100% pregnancy. Broodstock treated with 10 IU PMSG and 5 IU HCG/kg of spawner body weight was able to reach maturity and spawned with the larval survival rate on the fourth day at 84,81%, thus it can be concluded that 10 IU PMSG and 5 IU HCG/kg of body weight as the best dosage.

Abstract

Chitosan is a functional polysaccharide that is capable of inducing various biological activities. This research aims to examine the effect of chitosan on growth and blood profile of tilapia fish. The method used in this research was experimental methods with completely randomized design (RAL) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 times. 120 Tilapia fish in 5-7 cm in range size were reared in aquarium at density of 10 fish/aquarium. Feedwere given at the additional dose of 10 ppt, 50 ppt, and 100 ppt chitosan. The observed variables were growth rate, survival rate, fish blood profile, water quality, feed utilization efficien . The results showed that the best chitosan treatment was at a dose of 100 ppt which produced FCR of 3.48 ± 2.25, AGP: 0.13 ± 0.03, SGR: 0.85 ± 0.84 and EPP: 28.70 ± 16,54.
