Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine wheter using CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) can improve pupils’ speaking ability at Prateepsat Ismail Memorial School or not. This research used a quasi-experimental research that required a pre-test and a post-test for both groups. The research population was pupils in grade 2, where class 2/2 as an experimental class consisiting of 36 pupils and class 2/1 as a control class consisting of 36 pupils. In collecting data, reseracers used test. The test consisted of a pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed statistically. After being analyzed, the result of t-counted was 11,977 with 70 degrees of freedom and a significance level of 0,05, the table is 1,666. This research used a significance level of 0,05 because it has moderate accuracy. Therefore the result of t-counted is higher than t-table. It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. In conclusion, there was a significant effect in using CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) to improve pupils’ speaking ability of the second grade at Prateepsat Ismail Memorial School, Thailand.

Abstract

The objective this research is to improve students’ reading comprehension through story grammar strategy at SMP Negeri 08 Satap Doda Bunta. This research used a pre-experimental research design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the students of VIII grade of SMP Negeri 8 Satap Doda Bunta consisted of twenty-eight students. The sample of this research was all the population of the research. In collecting data, the researcher used test. The test consisted of pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed statistically. After being analyzed, it was found that the result of the t-counted was 9,245. With 27 degree of freedom, and a the significance level of 0,05, the t-table was 1,703.Therefore, the result of t-counted is greater than t-table. It is clear that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, story grammar strategy can effectively improve the reading comprehension of VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Satap Doda Bunta.

Abstract

The objective this research is to look for the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery through extensive reading at  SMP  Muhammadiyah  Luwuk. This research used a pre-experimental research design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was  the students of ninth grade students  of  SMP Muhammadiyah Luwuk  consisted of twenty-two students. The sample of this research  was all the population of the research. In collecting data, the researcher used test. The test consisted of pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed statistically. After being analyzed, it was found that the result of the t-counted was 12,215. With 21 degree of freedom, and a the significance level of 0,05, the t-table was 1,721.Therefore, the result of t-counted is bigger than t-table. It is clear that the research hypothesis is received. In other words, the implementation of extensive reading can improve students’ vocabulary mastery of the ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah Luwuk.

Abstract

This research is focused to find out about how is the effectiveness of songs that used by the English teachers in teaching listening activities at SMP Negeri 3 Banggai. This research was conducted by using qualitative research. The data was collected by using interview as the instrument of the research. The researcher interviewed the English teachers by using smartphone to record the data. The result found that the English teachers at SMP Negeri 3 Banggai used song as their strategy in teaching listening activities. It is found that songs in their teaching listening activities are to make a quite pleasant atmosphere, even gradually increasing students' vocabulary mastery and students' ability in listening comprehension. In conclusion, song aims to make students more relaxed and easy to accept lessons, as well as improve students' listening skills according to what they have to learn as junior high school students.

Abstract

Learning English is an important part that must be learned by teenagers today. Developments in technology and science oblige them to master the international language. English is able to open job opportunities for teenagers. However, the condition of Lontos Village, East Luwuk District, Banggai Regency, has not been able to provide human resources that can meet their English learning needs. Therefore, one of the XXXIII KKN student programs in Lontos Village provided English Conversation guidance to the youth there. The purpose of this activity is to build interest in speaking and conversational skills as well as to increase the confidence of young people in Lontos Village, East Luwuk District, Banggai Regency in speaking English. The implementation method used is the approach to teenagers, lectures, practice and question and answer. The results of this activity show that there is an interest in Lontos village youth in English. They also show confidence in using English. So that the ability of teenagers in English conversation has been seen. It is hoped that they will continue to hone their English skills.

Abstract

This research aims to seek whether small group discussion can improve students’ reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 2 Toili or not. The research design of this study was quasi-experimental. The population of this research was eleven grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Toili consisted of 46 students from two classes, XI IPA (experimental) and XI IPS (control). Both classes were taken as the sample. Tests were administered as the research instruments. The results show that experimental class got the highest improvement compared to the control class, from 68,51 became 84,81 in post-test. Therefore, it was obtained the t-counted 7,740 with the significant level 0,05 is 1,680 and the (df) is 44. It means that, t-counted was higher than t-table. In conclusion, Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. In other words, small group discussion can improve students' reading comprehension achievement at SMA Negeri 2 Toili.
