Abstract

This study uses two estimation models, logistic and linear regression. The logit model is used to see the probability of an individual being a tobacco user. The second method uses multiple linear regres- sion which aims to see the factors that influence the demand for tobacco consumption in West Suma- tra. This research was obtained from National Socio-Economic Survey in 2019. Comparing these two models, there was a slight difference. Income does not influence an individual’s decision to become a tobacco user, while this variable is significant in influencing the demand for tobacco. This study also reveal that social and economic factors are significant in influencing the demand for tobacco in West Sumatra. Economic factors show that tobacco is a normal good. Meanwhile, from social factors such as education level shows that the lower the level of education causes individuals to become tobacco users and also causes the demand for cigarettes in West Sumatra to increase. This result causes the standard of household living to be disrupted because education is a human capital investment. So that various policies from the government are expected to control tobacco consumption in West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the phenomena of child labor in Indonesia using data from National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS) 2014. First, investigate the impact of household economic condition and supervision of mothers on probability of child’s work or not. Furthermore, this study looked at the effects of parents occupation on the probability of child working receive a wage or not. Finally, this study estimates of child labor wage function. The method used is sequential Probit models, where each decision made in sequence according to a binary Probit model, and also used is Ordinary Least Square model. On the first Probit model, a significant association between household economy conditions on the probability of child labor participation is found. Second Probit model, the results shows that parent occupation of agriculture sector will encourage children to work did not receive a wages. The estimated OLS models shows that, the level of education is an investment that is most important for children to increase their income, especially in the future.

Abstract

Waste management shares the same purposes with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target in 2030. This program encourages all countries to substantially reduce waste through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse its waste so that the sustainability of development can be achieved. The success rate of sustainable waste management is largely determined by the participation and behavior of people, households, and citizens in managing their waste. This study analyzes socio-economic factors and the role of social capital in affecting households' willingness to participate in waste management in West Sumatra’s urban areas. This study used National Socio-Economic Survey data in the Social Resilience module. The sample in this study is 1011 households spread across the urban areas of West Sumatra. Using logistic regression, this study found that per capita household expenditure, homeownership status, knowledge, and household involvement in mutual cooperation activities to clean up their environment significantly affect the probability of households participating in urban waste management. The relevant policy, such as implementing the 3R concept, namely reduce, reuse, and recycling is needed for the Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved.

Abstract

Recently, the quail farming business has been growing in Nagari Mungka. However, the processing of quail feces of this activity has not been properly treated. This is due to the lack of knowledge of farmers about technology of this quail feces waste treatment. This training aims to increase the knowledge of quail farmers on the use of quail feces into bokashi fertilizer and catfish feed, so that it has the potential to increase their business profits in the future. The implementation method is carried out in two ways, namely by providing theory and demonstrating on making bokashi fertilizer and catfish feed from quail feces. The education provided is in the form of knowledge about the negative impact of quail feces and the benefits of quail feces if it is processed into bokashi fertilizer and catfish feed, as well as marketing strategies. Evaluation is carried out by filling out questionnaires by farmers and reviewing the results of the training. From the results of the questionnaire, it is known that almost 80-100% of the knowledge of farmers increase after participating in the training. This is new knowledge for farmers and this activity is very useful, especially for quail farmers.

This study aims to explain the influence of the development of the financial sector on carbon emissions in Indonesia from 1991 to 2020. This research was conducted through a literature study of data that has been published by the world bank and bank Indonesia. The results of the study using multiple linear regression found that of the 6 indicators used, 3 of them found that there was a significant relationship between the development of the financial sector and carbon emissions. The three indicators are Domestic credit provided by the financial sector, Domestic credit to private sector and Domestic credit to private sector by banks. The three variables are significant with values of 0.000, 0.001 and 0.039. Meanwhile, the other 3 variables, namely market capitalization, stock traded and foreign direct investment, are not significant in influencing carbon emissions. Government policies are expected to encourage the financial sector to benefit the environment such as encouraging projects that are more environmentally friendly.
